Linux install "create folder" problem

I thought i would make a thread about this error for anyone having this problem as i searched and found nothing.
for some reason some linux distros seem to have a problem installing pwi on wine and it complains about not being able to create a folder, with the new update it does this at about 1% install. To get round this there is a tar.gz file link on the wine db page for pwi, (i dunno if im aloud to link it so im not) you can extract the use the patcher to verify that will download the install files (very slowly and i guess adding more traffic to update servers lol) I believe this is linked to invalid characters in some of the file names aka umlauts and such and wine panicsb:shocked. Im pretty sure this doesnt happen to every linux user as the consensus shows pwi installing fine.

I was using Ubuntu 9.10 or 10.04, both install fine, but 10.04 has issues with FGLRX, so I can't use it.
Plus, I can't record videos on ubuntu, lest this bug appears: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/recordmydesktop/+bug/579760[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
hope you get record workin , i saw the bug strangly xvidcap doesnt have any save options just dumps it in your home directory with something like test-0001.mpeg0

I installed some international and regional fonts on to the system and updated my xorg.conf with them as well as compiling wine with fontconfig support this seemed to solve the problem0
