characters all gone after PC reformat

I just had my computer reformatted, and am in the process of putting back stuff where it goes, and downloading games I had lost to the reformat. Just a few minutes ago, I finally was able to get onto the PW game, and was shocked to see that *none* of my characters are there on the selection panel. Nothing at all is there! My understanding, from past problems like this, as told to me by one of the GM technos, is that game info is stored online, not on the player's PC.....please, please, tell me this is true, and that there is some way to recover my characters. I cant believe they really are all gone....but I just tested to see if I could make a character with the name of my lv79 veno...and it worked! Something, some how has deleted or hopefully just hidden my files. ***PLEASE*** help me! It would be a complete disaster to lose all those, along with the countless hours building them up, collecting their gear... Please help!

( and yes, i sent a ticket/email....this is the same thing i asked them. i am asking you all, to see if any have had this happen to others.)

    thank you all....it was a matter of the wrong server. last time i had this bleeping PC reformatted, i wasnt playing PW, and im so used to signing into the game and it being on the right server, that it never occured to me to look for that. add to this that im legally blind, it was 4 in the morning by the time the game had finished DLing, and i had gotten up to check without remembering to find my glasses first, this equals panic time! *wry grin*

    what still isnt resolved is where all my screenshots went.....some are in my pictures folder, but anything that was in a subfolder is gone. that really hurts to lose pics dating from when we first began the game....b:sad

    Gotta read those warnings when you reformat. Back up your files on a separate drive/usb/dvd.

    reformat = wipe all teh information.
    me do it regularly just in case humans manage to get into me network.

    your screenies and stuff be saved on your computer while your character info be saved on the PW server.
    so wiping your computer wiped the screenshots

    we worked for days, trying to save/backup all the stuff i need, including those pics. what doesnt make sense is why the main folder and the secondary ones saved, but not the ones inside the secondary. i had the pics, for instance, of my alts organised in their own folders, inside one large one called Characters. all of those are gone, but the Characters folder is still there, with a few unsorted pics. all this had been taken from the original PWI folder in Programs, and put in the Images one in Documents.

    has anyone ever heard of this kind of thing before?
