Help on watching squad

I see that I spend a lot of time with my eyes glued to the health display. Sometimes its the only way you can tell what is going on.
But I am wondering if there is more I can do to anticipate what is going to happen to the squad? It seems like sometimes I look at the fighting, its a mess and I can't tell who is taking agro, and who is going to need healing. By the time my eyes make it back to the health display, someone is already 80% dead and there's a 50/50 chance that I wont get a heal on them fast enough. Yet another dead squad member.
So I'm wondering if there are any tips, tricks, techniques or patterns that folks use to keep an eye on the squad.
For instance, there are a few poison mobs in BH39. So one of the things I like to do is keep an eye on the left edge of the buffs column. I'll scan this area in a vertical motion. If every member of the team has Guardian Seal, then it is easy to see right away when someone picks up a poison DOT. This way I can get the purify on them as fast as possible.
I've noticed that sometimes the person taking the most agro is going to be the first one to pick up a poison DOT. I am wondering if it would be worth it to automatically hit this first person with 2 or 3 IH's, even before I know they need it.
I'm mainly focused on BH39 right now. Just starting out in my long career of fail. Thanks to anyone with advice or help.

I usually stick to looking at the health display, focusing on the tank's health. And I glance at the fighting to see how much healing I need to do at the moment. So if yall are fighting mobs, tank needs like 1 or 2 IHs, and other squad members only need heals if they're being idiots (DD who pulls aggro or goes off to get a mob by themselves).
Also it also helps to sorta feel out the kind of personality your squad has. Some are more reckless than others, regardless of class. So here it would help to have your finger hovering over wellspring for that veno who sometimes steals aggro from her pet or something like that.
When fighting a boss, make sure to focus on the tank, once again, and a lot of spamming of IH should be done, which takes a lot of your attention, and if somehow someone gets hit, dont heal them unless the tank has at least 2/3 of their HP and you just spammed him like 3 times with IH.
As for poison, on mobs all you need is an IH right after the mob dies. During a boss fight, the tank should be alternately healed and purified.
And so this is all I know from my experience. Also since you're doing specifically BH39, spam IH a few times on the tank before one of those boomer mobs dies.Reichle lvl7x cleric | Neithin lvl5x barb | Tigressi lvl3x veno | Etheriali lvl3x wiz | Goldeeni lvl2x sin | Lilaq lvl2x BM | Fuegai lvlx archer | Whiteney psychic not created yet >_>

For mobs, I wouldn't focus on "heal the tank". From what I've seen in BHs, DDs tend not to hold back on mobs, because they die much faster and hit for less than a boss. But also because of that, they won't need more than a wellspring once you realize they got hit. Only IH during mobs if the IH has enough time to kick in; otherwise a Wellspring is much more likely to keep them alive. If they have next to no HP left and you cast an IH, they'll probably die before any of the healing over time kicks in.
For bosses, "heal the tank first" definitely does apply. However, I usually look at his HP via the squad list, not the target on the top of my screen. That way I can see if anyone else is taking damage. I can see out of the corner of my eye if something weird is going on in the screen (like the boss running, which means a ranged DD took aggro), and adjust accordingly.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

This is true. But usually if a DD grabs aggro, they only get hit once before the tank regrabs aggro. Another useful thing to do is to keep an eye one which way the mob or boss is facing, they will always look at who they're hitting. Seeing them turn gives you a bit of extra time to react when they start attacking vs only watching the squad window. It may take a bit of practice, but its definitely worth it.helr - cleric,7X

Focus on the fight and use your peripheral vision, glancing at the health bars here and there. If the bars are on the side it is easier to see things while still allowing you to watch whats going on. If a mob starts moving away from the tank or running in a different direction (or as Helr said, turns to face a different direction) you can either tell who its going for or at least have some warning so your ready to heal. Hit Wellspring to heal them fast. Wellspring, IH, repeat until tank gets aggro back.
If I know who its going for I hit them with a Wellspring before the mob gets to them because with channeling the mob usually has already hit them before the heal. For bosses I pay most of my attention to the health bars and when someone else is hit I start healing them. Usually ends well, but you can't always save them.Lvl 7x Cleric

poison mobs, eh ? b:mischievous
on those i like to get into it myself, seeing as arcane we got the highest resistance for poison, why should we heal a barb who really gets hurt by poison when we can take them on with minimal heal/purify ourself ? let others be dd while we tank that poison mob b:dirty
if you're low on chi or generally someone only gets one hit of poison DoT an ih is usually enough, you can purify after mob is dead.
-->watch out for poison stacks on heavy armor though, they can go down fast ... purify, ih
on rest, i think checking hp bar on squadlist is best bet.
on boss i focus on tank, if some dd do get occasional aggro i cast wellspring or squad heal.
if squad has more than one dd constantly taking aggro i revert to bb (lazy b:chuckle)0 -
it would be easier if dds know to spread .. two reckless archers who act like siamese twins will always mean at least charm ticking if not death b:lipcurl
watchin wats going on just by hp bars wont work too well if ppz gets hits for 50% hpBUILD EFFICIENCY CALCULATOR: pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1129681

^^ This, and also that DDers shoul stay away from the cleric and run towards the tank and not to the cleric if they got aggro from boss. Specially if the boss has strong AoE.
Yesterday while doing bh69 a psychic got aggro from Polearm and ran towards me screamin' "heal meeeh".I got 1-shotted from Pole's AoE, later on the rest of the squad got wiped too b:cryb:surrenderSliding we go, only fear on our side. To the edge of the wire and we rush with the tide.

One thing that can be helpful to do is to keep like 1 stack of IH on a DD that has draw aggro 1million times or has a chance to pull aggro. (Unless he dies in 1 or 2 hits...then nvm)
Watch your screen, see what your DDs are doing. See what the bos is doing. Spreading out might be good but make sure you stay in range.
Simplest solution for me would be to BB if theres no interrupt random aggro or AoEThanks Chillum for the nice Sig.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

edit: Also what gets me is how some (alot) archers/wizards/sins/DD's in general don't know how to utilize aggro management. To cut back when it gets dangerously close to stealing aggro, what to do in the situation of grabbing aggro/etc... People give Clerics so much flak about learning our class, and some people can't be bothered to learn their own role(s), or even auto-attack correctly (efficiently). We have two ears and one tongue so that we would listen more and talk less. - Diogenes

^---- Quite true. Archers are usually better than others [except on wood mobs 0:) so much fun!] about agg, as our auto attack is SOOO slow, and any decent tank can just hit flesh-ream every couple of seconds and agg will be fine. If you have a fist BM who's sparking a lot and is a lvl or two higher than the tank, they could quite possibly steal agg. YELL AT THEM FOR ME!! >:[ At least they can take a hit...
Psychics....if they sound cocky [ie.: stupid], and you have lead, just kick them. :P It has been my experience that nearly all people who play tideborn [especially psychics, unless they started on another class] think they are invinsable, and if they steal agg, it's not that they are over-powerd [and ruined the game...], or that they're stupid because they don't know how to hold back. NO! It's always YOUR [the tank, or cleric] fault!
Thanks for letting me rant.
[on toppic]
From a non-idiotic dd's perspective, "I have pots, his aoe isn't that fast, I'm not stupid enough to get agg, don't worry about me! I'm fine over here. If things get really bad I'll put up winged shell [archer] or hit sutra [blade master], just send in my pet [veno], or use my own heal if there's time [wizard/psychic]. You just keep those ih's stacked on the tank " [notice that I'm letting 'sins die. hehee!!] Basically i'm saying, unless that psychic is having SERIOUS problems ["use WHITE voodoo u fish!"], every dd has a means to compensate/survive the aoe's.
In BH39, only a fail-archer is inside of Farren's aoe, and wizies should also be able to stay out of range. As long as the 'sins aren't idiots and run in, get hit with the aoe and run out, wait for a bit and run in again, get hit again and run out again, [never QUITE making it to the boss btw...] you'll be fine. [sad to say, on RT, one 'sin dies every 5 mintues because of the above-mentioned idiocy]
That was rather rambling, so I will sum it up:
1.) TideBorn ruined the game, and my life. b:cry
2.) Psychics can be stupid. Avoid them like the plague.
3.) We all have ways to stay alive, either built into our class, or learned because of a fail-barb+fail-cleric combo we were forced to endure once. We can survive fine, don't worry so much. b:victory
4.) As I say to clerics when I see them in-game: "We wove wu!!b:heart"

It is always best to watch the battle field and not to much time looking at the sqd window and always best to precast IH on the Barb and anyone else who can use it.When dealing with poison or fire always best to purify every other cast.Don't forget to look at your radar minimap.Looking for a decent casual understanding Faction.0

I keep my eyes mostly on the 5 health bars. Have my Ironheart on F5 and never let my finger off that while their fighting (if its a fight that i cant attack or BB) Since my finger is continuously locked on F5 IH all i have to do is click up and down on the hp bars with my mouse >.> saves me **** loads of time. Theres always at least 2-3 pple that need healing so i kinda wait 3sec on tank, switch and do 1sec on one melee, then switch another 1sec heal on the other melee, then back to tank. The IH lags so even if you dont see it cast the second you click on their character, by the time you move on to the next, the previous chara is healed...

Actually, just 1 IH can compensate any poison/bleed/etc DoT till you can purify it or cast another IH when you healed the most critical squad members.
Also, on boss fights it is better to watch the tank's status/health bar for debuffs or any abnormal status since they tend to appear there before the animation of the skill shows on the battle.
Polearm and Krimson debuff for example: Youll se the elemental and physical resistance debuffs on your tank's bar before the big axe hits him. It will give you the extra second that can save the say.
This can be applied on the squad bar also, to see who got poisoned for example, and switch quickly to heal/purify him.
However, on contrary to abnormal status, HP damage tends to appear 1-2 seconds after the member got hit, so you need to split your watch between the squad windows and the main screen.

As kindof a sidenote that I've facepalmed a few times on, if a cleric gets heal aggro and the tank hasn't noticed/isn't taking care of it I'm (usually) pretty quick to get aggro off the cleric.
PLEASE DON'T HEAL ME.
I run circles around the tank with the mob/s on me until he notices/until I die. I can either take the damage = you don't have to heal, or I can't and you should just let me die to save the cleric.AmarthUmelda - Raging Tide wrote: »^---- Quite true. I have issues with this post.
I haven't noticed archers being better. Or worse. Just depends on the person playing. (except sins...idk how many times I've heard a sin say 'I don't want a BM tank, I'll steal aggro' or 'heal me if I get aggro from the boss" x.x)
Also wiz heal, won't (usually) save me from mob attacks in BH if the tank doesn't get aggro fast, it's too slow channeling, and IMO waste of 2 spark to sautra-heal if you decided to take that route. Like I stated before, I usually run circles around the tank until he notices.
I will say though that in the BH51 I don't need IB for any of the bosses. I can Morning Dew myself + attack. Clerics can keep their eyes on the tank and other DD's.
Okay...I kindof agree with your #3 statement at the end.

When it comes to mobs, I don't heal. I assist the other people within the squad with attacking. When I glance at someone's health and it does drop somewhat I either attack the mob they're attacking, to quickly kill or throw in IH. But other than that I'm pretty flexible and can switch somewhat.
When it comes bosses, depending on the boss I will heal. If it's a boss that I feel I can tank it, I can tank it.
Also, healers are also called White Mages. Those who can attack and heal are red mages. /geekthought"If God gives you lemons, then get a new God"-Powerthirst0 -

No. A good Cleric will have their eyes on the squad window at least 50% of the time, to watch for debuffs, or so you can more accurately deduce who is getting hit if there is a group of mobs/players and you can't see who has aggro.
and always best to precast IH on the Barb and anyone else who can use it.
No. Pre-casting IH on anyone could lead to you getting heal aggro, which CAN lead to party wipe. A good Cleric will wait for the player who is getting hit to grab aggro (actually hit/damage the mob) before casting. Unless of course you cast/stack a couple IH's on the player prior to them going into the aggro range of mobs.
When dealing with poison or fire always best to purify every other cast.
No. It's definitely not best to purify every other cast as most debuff mobs don't cast said debuffs in that cycle. It's generally 2-3 IH's THEN purify, but you must use discretion as it's not always the same, as you seem to suggest. Melee tanks need to be purified a hell of a lot less than ranged/magic players, as melee players will get hit physically, with a side of debuff(s), and a ranged/magic player will get hit every time with a debuff whenever the mob/boss attacks.
Don't forget to look at your radar minimap.
Okay, you got me here, it's useful to look at your minimap, but only if you have show monsters/players toggled on.
You keep saying "it's always best [yadda yadda]". That is not true. Sure, a lot of instances that could/would work, but no situation is always the same.MystiMonk - Sanctuary wrote: »That is why I didn't quote anyone post untill you quoted me like I didn't know what I was talking about.
But it's fairly obvious that you don't. At least, not to the extent you seem to think.
I then quoted you back saying I sure do know what I am talking about after playing another healing profession for 5 years.
What surprises me is the fact that you've supposedly been playing a healing class for 5 years, and yet you are STILL doing it wrong.
There was no need for you to jump the gun on Frijolero like you did. Especially after he calmly explained he was remarking/adding on your post, not criticizing it.
Seems to me that you take offense to such trivial things, suggesting that you are insecure about your playstyle or yourself.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

its VERY important for you too watch the battle too, otherwise exspcially in lower lvls where alot of barbs just dont care or know about it, youll end up getting heal aggro when the person that actuall needs heals has a few mobs on them and doesnt bother about attacking more than 1. you need too watch the battle too see if you can actually heal safe.0 -
I lol'd @ the sin saying pre-stacking IH gets you aggro

Mysti said : and always best to precast IH on the Barb and anyone else who can use it.
Nex said : No.
I said : Thats what Mysti means by precasting IH Sins! No good cleric will precast IH while the tank run to the mobs, it must be BEFORE tank runs to the mobs.....0 -

Do you know what precasting is in another rpg we call it preprotecting and it won't attract aggro if it is lvled enough? It is casting it on before the battle starts and most soloing clerics do this.If you read my post I said to watch the battle field as if it safe to precast.I mean Barb or BM not a Sin.Looking for a decent casual understanding Faction.0
