Okay, I feel like I know nothing about choosing pets, except that Glacial Walker is the best tank besides Hercules.
But what are the best water/air/luring/DD pets? Should I tame them when they're close to my level? Should I keep them and not tame any more? How many pets is useful to have? Do any of my pets need to be taught skills? And does my pet choice matter if I'm focusing on my fox form tree?
It would be so awesome if yall could answer just like one of these questions, i would b soooo grateful if you could try to answer all X3

From what I've seen, the level 5 turtle is still the best water pet. The Petite Sawfly is the best air pet, in terms of damage. The Cloud Skatefish is close to the Sawfly, but apparently doesn't have as good of skills. As for land DD, pretty sure the Varicose Scorp is still the biggest damager, but the Dark Wanderer and Seamonster Guardian are close--DW needs to be taught Bash, though, or another aggro-gaining skill, and the Guardian already has Flesh Ream, which is good for aggro.

As for the number of pets, I'll probably go with a DD, flying, tank, and ranged. I'll probably just catch water pets as I need them, since I don't really want to put in the time to level up a turtle from level 5 -.-.

As for the fox form tree focus, I'm not exactly sure, since I'm a vit/arcane veno, but i'd assume you'd want to go for DD as a primary, and maybe have a tank as a backup if you're fighting something particularly difficult and need the pet to hold aggro. I could be totally wrong about that, though :x.

Yeah, water pets are a problem. Don't even try to level a lvl 5 turtle all the way up, unless you are into EXTREMELY EXTREME UBER GRINDING.

My Tortuise Everlasting (starts at 51) is only 58 atm --- there's just no way in hell I can keep her levelled. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what kind of water quests I get; I have successfully used her in a quest where I had to kill a few lvl 80 fishes, so it's not that bad.

As for "how many", unless you are going cash there's a natural limit. Currently I have 4 slots --- working on the 5th one, but currently I have 5/100 fungus, so it's still a loooooooooooog way to go. The Magmite, the Sawfly, then PWI dumped an anniversary mount on me (which takes another slot) and the turtle --- full house.
You can probably buy the pet slot quest items off other players, though. So far, I haven't seen any clear statement whether there is a 6th free slot or not.
Slow progress, game is getting way too grindy :-( Quests I still hope to be able to do some day: FB39, General Feng

OH? Can it tank a World Boss at Level 95? Can it out DD a Dark Wanderer or Varicose Scorpion?
But what are the best water/air/luring/DD pets?

-Depends on circumstances, and there is insufficient data on some pets at 90+ levels.

There's a difference btw being a tank and a DD.

    Thanks for the non-answer b:surrender

I gues Tweakz means that it isn't always the best tank pet. ;) which makes it not 'the best tank besides'.
can't that eldergoth marksman tank some WB? (dunno for sure)

    but ah well...
The glacial walker is indeed a decent tank. It seems a dark wanderer can tank brim at a certain point, and it's a good DD.

Eldergoth marksman is ranged (when you turn it's skills of) wont keep agro well that way, but you will be able to tank per example farren while staying out of aoe range. Also a ranged pet can be usefull for luring.

As airpet you can use either skatefish, but it'll need an upgrade for the skills, so will probably cost more in the long run then a sawfly.

A waterpet.. don't bother lvling it. there's not too much underwater content. just tame anything near to your lvl. at lvl 80 you can tame a plumpfish. they're terribly slow. but they're kinda oke.

Herc would have hard time tanking a world boss at 95.That is what squads are for and best to have 2 Barbs if possible.
Looking for a decent casual understanding Faction.

best air pet is probably the sawfly, but also probably not by any huge margin. TBH, half the reason i use a skatefish is that i can't stand the looks of the wasp. the skatefish is good enough for most air pet jobs; two bashes give it decent DPS, although i am thinking seriously of leveling them up now. my own rule of thumb: if i'm stealing aggro from my pets when i don't want to, i should probably spend some coin upgrading their skills. otherwise, why bother?

what skills you'll need for your pets will depend on what jobs you want them to do.

i've always been able to think of far more pets i'd like to try out, or keep, than i've had pet bags for. i've still got a dark wanderer egged that i haven't used for ten levels now, just because of that. i'm finally about to get my fourth pet bag, just in time to tame an eldergoth... maybe that'll manage to replace my starter wolfling? if so, i'd get one free slot with that.

"best" air pet is probably the piggy. best water pet, i wouldn't know, i try to avoid needing them. best lurer --- pick something fast with decent defenses (so it can survive a hit or three); i alternate between the starter wolfling and the skatefish for luring, honestly. i could lure with my glacial walker, but i hate waiting for it to lumber over very far.
What are the cords for the everlasting tortoise pet?

    these.
