Harder to make ingame friends than it used to be

I remember when quests were a good way to make friends as all you would have to do is ask someone to party up for a certain quest.
But now this game barely has any quests any more, and no one even does quests after 40.
It's so sad i used to LOVE this game but now it has let me down so much =/ QQ

You're blaming the game because you don't have friends.

The presence of cheap oracles, hyper stones, 3x bounties nullifies the need to do any quest.
Most people have their time sucked into doing dailies. Doing world quest and bounty already takes at least 1.5-2 hours each day.
The reward of quest is pale compared to dailies, thus this is pushing people to be much less social.0 -

Yeah, you don't meet many people around your level and level up with them for months anymore.
Now you see people hitting 100 and 101 that you've never heard of or even have seen in-game because they've been stuck in a nearly endless BH loop. Then they get there, expect respect and everyone is like who the hell ARE you?
And then you look at their gear and lol. It's either **** or highly cash shopped.I post in forums. This one and others. That's why I post.0 -

oh, because quests are supposed to be done by a squad and bh solo, right?
hypers cant be used without doing something too
but i aggree that wq is done while afk (most of the time)
to the OP, most of my in-game friends are RL friends or faction mates or ppl i met in BH. i've never added/got added by someone just because we did a quest together with 1 exception on my cleric. my psy soloed most of the quests anyway0 -
i do all my daylies on archer, but also all the quests xD. free rep.. lolI'm sorry for misspelling / mistyping and grammar b:surrender

This +1.
All the people I have leveled with have either stopped playing, or play less and less these days. So I leveled my archer hoping they'd come back. They haven't. Oh well. Guess I'll just make some new friends, or do my BHs in faction.b:laugh[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I'm super new to game (see my avi? xD) and I agree on how hard it is to make friends in game, I'm only on for a couple hours a day too, I would love to meet some more gorgeous game geeks like me ^^ So ummm ya! Message me in game (usually 8 am mountain standard time, i think thats 2 hours behind east coast time) Would love to add all you! b:kiss
Yes, I do feel like the Grade 2 kid walking around asking everyone to be her friend...so I ask you this:
"Do you wanna be my friend?" xD0 -

No, he's not. He's stating a fact. With all the cash shop items available to make leveling faster, no one needs parties, quests, or whatever. These kind of games were originally designed around a party system. Now no one has need of them. It's ruining the game. There's no such thing as a "Perfect World" full of Jade, diamonds, gold, and other riches and treasures. There is only an imperfect world, with an imperfect society, full of imperfect people, with imperfect idea's about how to be perfectly rich and perfectly perfect. No one cares about being perfectly kind, perfectly fair, or perfectly content.
It's a perfectly sad world.0 -
To me regular mob quest were never good for squading. The range on the party was not wide enough. You get more than around 20 meter away from squadd members and it no good. the mobs are so spread out that i found squading really never work good. If you stay clse enough togther there will not be enough mobs. If you sqread out a bit then you dont get credit for the other kills.
Squads only needed for bosses. I dont really go out of my may to kill a boss that will only give me 2 or 3 % whn i can do a daily that gives 10 to 20%. Bosses give high reputation but after you get rank 3 or 4, it time to give up unless you want to spend boku bucks.
All that being said i love the daily BH's and other stuff. It allows you to build many characters whcih i enjoy. I also like that not many peoel are grinding, getting in my way when im triyng ot quickly do a mob killing quest.0 -

i'm in a faction that currently owns land and has over 30 members online at a time. So i think my faction is pretty decent... the point of this thread has nothing to do with factions, more of how you never make friends the way you used to.CatNap - Harshlands wrote: »To me regular mob quest were never good for squading.Facebook.com/foxi187

I agree. I've only had one group of I guess online friends once, and that was around the level 20-40's. It's really fun to get in a good squad and chat and whack mobs all day. But now there isn't anyone to get into a squad with. b:sad Not to mention my friends list has been empty for at least three months now lol. Maybe I'm bad at finding social people. b:shocked0

It does suck that the game is almost nothing like it used to be. Almost all of the good players have quit, and the new generation mostly hypers to 100, skipping all the content (and learning process that goes with it). You got high-levels running around with no clue what's going on, and the lower-level areas are ghost towns. Granted, everyone enjoys the game in different ways, but I think a lot of what used to make this game great has been phased out by greed. I started playing in 2008 and it was a whole different experience back then, much more fun and easier to meet random people, and people did more than just dailies. If I hadn't reached a good high level before the major changes were made, I never would have bothered the way it is now. This is still a good game that I enjoy, but I'm sad that it's no longer a truly great game.0

I hyper in FC from time to time because it takes too long to level. What I mean by too long is after I finish all possible quests of that level, explore all new dungeons of that level (if any) and such.
I mean now seriously, staying at one level for 3-4 more days doing BH and grinding doesn't really teach me more now does it -.-First 103 on Raging Tide 30 Oct 2010

I kind of agree... I'm a little worried how this might impact new players. The low level areas around the starting cities seem fairly empty b:sad[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

I actually enjoy this some of the time. I am often quite anti-social 72/365 days of the year. I do not log onto ventrillo or whisper anyone to begin a conversation. My assassin owns his on faction and there are only 7 other members so its usually very quiet. My nice little quiet Sanctuary where not many people will talk to me.
But I can also understand your position. Once you feel there is little left for you to do in game for the day or ever again most people will like to be social with others. Guess it really depends on how well you get along with others and what faction your in. If your in Heavens Tear server there is a good chance you know that Caesar is known for their social aspect I am sure there are other factions in Heavens Tear and other servers that are known for that and you may want to seek them out.

My problem is that 99% of the time I squad with "Anyone" I get **** for drops - doesn't matter if I am highest or lowest lvl in the squad! Doesn't matter if I do the most kiling or not - I GET SCREWED out of the valuable drops.
NO!! I am not exagerating in the least - it "always COSTS me" to squad with anyone!
Once I realized - the only way I can come out ahead on a quest is by doing solo I lost all interest in squading!
The only time "most" friends called me was when they needed my toons skill sets (Cleric/BM). They were usually "too busy" to assist me when It was my turn to run a quest That I helped them complete.
In game friends are overrated - most are only friends when they need you. They will learn to power level and leave you in the dust, eventually they are too good to be bothered with you as the level difference increases.
All that said - I have a few "very good" and loyal in game friends who have leveled at about the same pace as myself and we will log what ever alt needed to assist each other.
They, like myself, prefer to solo as much as they can, we will squad each other despite the fact we are each doing different things - just for the convenience of party chatting.
If in game comoradery is what you seek - I support a previous suggestion you find a friendly guild with common appeal to your personality.
Most of the friends I maintain regular contact with I met in my 60's levels - most that I made in my 40's have since - either leveled to 100 or quit altogether. I figure most of my active friends average about 20 levels of loyalty before something causes a faling off or end of commitment to one on one loyalty.0 -
Hmm I dont see any reason to reach endgame levels underskilled and underequipped. Its only going to make you rage quit or spend insane amounts in gold.
I think I once saw an 8x archer higher than me in my squad who was using a damn lvl40 npc crossbow. I was like WTF!!!
But yea its sad that I hardly find people grinding/questing for me to make friends.0 -
Well, i'm fairly new to the game (about 4 months playing) yet i find it somewhat easy to make friends, maybe because i'm an old school player who likes to level the old school way, quests, grinding, stuff like that, i do BHs but i'm lazy and tend to stack like 3 of them before i actually do any, so i don't do BHs on a daily basis, and i stopped doing CS when i hit 81 (76k for 216k exp doesn't seem like quite a fair deal), so i find people i like every now and then, and add them to my friends list
Good ways to make new friends:
-join a widely known faction, doesn't even need to own any land, just a faction that is well known in your server, popular factions are popular for a reason, they usually have interesting people on them, if you feel it's not the faction for you kindly let them know and try another one
-do TTs, i've got about 50% my friends list this way, with people i know is capable of handling their roles and playing their chars, if i happen to know someone who total and absolutely fails to play their vocation (i won't say names on these forums) i refuse to squad with them ever again
-do FCs, same reasons as TT, but TT = money and FC = exp
-advertise a little (JUST A LITTLE) in real life, i know it sounds crazy, but if you have friends in real life who might be interested into the game, let them know! maybe they like it, get hooked up with it and you have someone to chat or do quests with, plus they will make friends of their own and you might like themOriginally Posted by frankieraye: To say that would be a lie, because in regards to the DQ problem, it's something that we're honestly still working on, and something that we believe we can fix.

Most people will complain about random squads, but that is truly where you start making friends. Have a random squad that went well? Add them so you can party up again. Get along in particular with a few members? Check out their guild they are in, or do something else together later on.
I have had a few 'good' friends in game where it was more than a 'you help me and I'll help you' mutual setup, and we actually cared about each other. I met these people through helping them out randomly. A person I rezzed randomly once became a great friend until we both took long breaks from the game. I found my first guilds, in all cases, through random squads. [Also a great way to recruit people to your guild].
Send out the invites or join random PUGs. When you're there, start up some conversation; it's easier not to be shy when you're just talking online. And if you can't handle dealing with fail random groups every once in awhile, you're taking the game too seriously. People need to learn to have more fun.0 -
heh, i got some best mates in here, including Shadowfish (hes so fit o.o)
