Returning to PWI?

Hey everyone,

So I haven't played since the Lost Empire expansion was just released, and now that I'm considering coming back, I was wondering what's changed since then and what the balance of the game is like now. I'm mostly PVE although I PVP sometimes, and am not really able to shell out real currency for cash shop items. How's the ingame economy? Is PWI still enjoyable for someone like me?

Thanks!

The only way to find out is to log in and check it out or study the forums a bit, but the log in part is the best way, hands on and you can see for yourself what is new, upgraded or different. You can sit here and read others peoples pro's and con's about this and that but seriously, reading about things only get you so far. Hands on is the best way to find out.

Yeah, I'm browsing the forums while I'm redownloading and reinstalling the client, and I was just wondering if I could get any input directly from people.

    Small updates:

Gold price (depend on which server): 400-500k
    Pack
Most people are obssesed with quick leveling now (BH, Oracle, Hyper Stone)
Most people just do dailies (CS/BH/WQ) then either do nothing or log off.

Ouch. You're kind of mean there, dear fellow. PWI is still one of the best free MMORPG's out there, and is still very fun to play. Yes, it has it's ups and downs, but hey, nothing's perfect in this world. I'm just saying that you should give our friend a chance. :)

So, you've been gone for about a year? Although the characters, the interface and the places all look the same, it's really not the same game it used to be. The real PvE has largely been eliminated, and the game has been made substantially easier and it's really the best game if you plan on casually cash shopping. Most of the long term goals have been removed or are now available by cash shopping. The game has pretty much been changed to suit a western audience.

That being said, there are new races, new content, genies, easy ways to level and if you do casually cash shop, the game is still decently fun.
I post in forums. This one and others. That's why I post.

I agree with one of the first comments - Just log in and see.

If you want a fresh start where you might have more of an playing advantage, start on one of the newer servers (both PvE): Raging Tide or Arch.

Granted, much of this game has become a cs'er dream, you do not have to spend $$ on this game in order to play. Play your own game.

If you want more information then that, I suggest you look at the past patch notes and news.

Have fun though, that is the most important part!!

I think you still not realized that there are awesome p2p games that are like $10 a month. xD He just said the truth.

    No... no it isn't.

It's funny because you will hear this exact same line on any mmo forum you can think of if you question the game. "this mmo is the best f2p out there". So many people seem absolutely certain their chosen mmo is the best, and probably haven't even played a fraction of the available mmo's out there.

What's even funnier are the MMO"RP"Gs that have a rather low player count, but are still "the best" --- be it because it has so much depth and greatness that ordinary players just don't grasp it, or because the publisher sucks at advertising, or it has to many jealous enemies that are badmouthing it, or whatever.

Still, PWI doesn't seem to do all that bad --- I wouldn't say it's a low-playercount-game. And even though it's just yaiotsmt ("yet another instance of the standard MMO'RP'G template", in case you didn't know), they DID get a good job on some of the basic details.
Slow progress, game is getting way too grindy :-( Quests I still hope to be able to do some day: FB39, General Feng

Buehehe, moved to OT. And to the above. Yes, they did but they ****ed it up pretty quick and game earned opinion that will prevent any sensible ppl (that values their time) to start playing and old players are mmo quiting.

No. PW is not one of the best "Free" MMOs out there, because it's not "Free" at all. Personally, I'm sick of it. How many sales do we have running right now? Three at once, and one of those being those God damned packs? Hell, I've actually been looking forward to a Pet pack sale for a while, so I could actually afford to get my fiancee a herc, something we've both been looking forward to for a while. And lo and behold, we get... a "sale"... Which isn't even the usual sale price for packs. Used to be, when there was a pet pack sale, it would drop to 30 silver. Not 40 silver. If you're going to give a "Sale" actually make it worth while. Don't drop it when gold prices have gone out the **** due to the Tiger Pack and Hyper sale. I mentioned to her this morning that the packs had gone on sale, we looked at it... She looked at me, and said, "Honey. Is it honestly worth it anymore?" We thought about it. And thought about it... And spent the money we WOULD have spent on PW, had it actually been a decent game anymore, on another game, which I intend to play instead of PW. I've had it with the lies, I've had it with the money grubbing attitude from this stupid company, and I've had it with the lack of bug fixes, with each "update", or holiday "event" being another damned sale.

It's gotten to the point where, despite years of promising myself I'd never, EVER play a P2P game, that I'm actually moving to one because it's going to be cheaper than what I have to pay to keep up in PW. I'm tired of being screwed time and time again. If I wanted that, I'd at least expect dinner first, and maybe a kiss afterward...

Thanks for all the input. I guess I'm really just going to have to jump in for a few weeks and see for myself whether it's still enjoyable, but from what I've read both here and in other threads, it looks like overall the community and balance hasn't been doing so well...

And yeah, I've definitely noticed some of the changed already...got my lvl 5 blue wep earlier today and was definitely reminded of how much work it took me to get my first cool blue wep.

Anyways, I jumped in as a new bm on Dreamweaver since it seems like things have also changed for the starting-out levels: Echyion. Can't say I'll be on that much in these upcoming weeks since things are really busy, but I'll definitely be on when I can be.

Im thinking of it as well. It's kinda sad to leave ppl and chars with equip you were fighting but it became so obvious there is no chance to see any changes to better and current situation is unacceptable. Even I've never spent single dollar on it, I still feel like I wasted alot cause it took so much time that I could use on something else.

It's a shame, is what it is. I enjoyed this game well enough to roll multiple alts that I fully intended on playing to endgame. I even rolled a Veno on Harshlands I spent money on so she could have the necessary room for the pets I'd need. Of course, they quickly followed that up with one of their "Pay money for levels" scams... I believe the one in question was JOJ... Such a disappointment... I'd even told my guild and friends that I was taking an extended break to test my mettle on a PvP server, only to end up back a week later due to that ****... So, I stuck to Sanctuary, rolled every class there, started having fun with all the classes, using the new account stash to enjoy each one to its fullest potential, and even started spending a little bit on them. An inventory here, a mount there, some fashion. I was having fun again... But then... it wasn't. It started feeling more like a chore. I couldn't get gear for them because of the inflated prices. Even passing down old gear from my high leveled characters didn't work anymore.

Noobs, noobs, and more noobs surrounded me, to the point where instances weren't worth the effort. People I'd see on a low leveled alt would eventually be in an instance my main was needing, clueless about their class, yet in overpowered gear... It was obvious they'd bought their way up there... It became a game of the pocketbook. Dollars were the weapon of choice... For a brief, brief moment... I tried to compete... But realized this was not the game I wanted to play. I've got much, much more important things to spend my money on. My upcoming wedding, for instance. So, I'm done. No more money from me. I've tried countless times to forgive PW for their actions. They may be a business, but there is no excuse for this. There comes a time when customers must take precedence over profit, and we passed that point months ago.
