3 Tanks and 1 Cleric: A story

So once upon a time. Actually, wait, scratch that. Once upon a couple hours ago, I did a FB. Now, this isn't your average FB. It's BELOW average. Yes, it's FB19. People tell me that it's suicidal to go within a lv90+ watching your back. I do not believe that, and I told my friend. Now, my friend was able to do his FB19, but I convinced him to go with a lv19-21 team. After a series of complex events, we have 3 tanks and a cleric. The tanks were level 19, 20, and 21. The cleric was level 21. We managed to clear the place on our own. And the drop was... disappointing. We had fun, though. Yea.

Now, here's the point of this thread:
Why is the drop so crappy? Shouldn't we get at least one GOOD item?

    Cool story, bro.

Oh, and just because you're in the level range, that doesn't guarantee a good item like a three star or mold.

Welcome to PWI, we hope you enjoy your stay.

The "good" item drop is the quest reward, not from the boss. Anything from the boss is just luck.

Aw. I thought it was nearly guaranteed that you get at least 1 good item if you are within level range...

Unfortunately, your never guaranteed anything when it comes to drops. I find bosses are particularly stingy with their stuff. To be sure, when they do end up dropping stuff, it's usually something nice, even without 3*s and molds. But, most of the time, you'll just be getting coins. It's kinda upsetting when you know the boss your fighting drops a mold you want, and ends up giving you nothing but coins. But, that's the way things are here. Better luck on your fb29 though.

Yeah around that level I usually get around three 3* items, never gotten a mold although I've only done a few. It's really really unlucky to not get any 3*'s or molds.

As has been said, nothing is ever guaranteed with drops.

Sometimes you can go into FB19 with three level 9x players and get a mold. [I've watched it happen.] Other times, as your story proves, you can do the FB at the same level as it's designed for, and you just get nothing.

Bosses are always pretty cheap with their drops. Typically, you'll get coins. If you're kind of lucky, you'll get some extra drops and maybe a few two star pieces, but nothing special. If you get lucky you'll have a few three stars, and sometimes you'll see a mold. It really is all based on chance.

But, don't get me wrong, being within the level range most definitely helps increase your chance of good drops. It just doesn't guarantee it.

That was my friend's FB19. I just got my FB19. Hopefully I can get better stuff on mine.

Well at this point I can tell ya I highly doubt the level of squad to have as much influence on drops in fb's/bh's as people seem to believe. To date I've actually only had molds drop with squads of higher level than intended/necessary for the run. I'm not saying high levels increase the chance ofc, but I don't hesitate to run instances with squads of pretty much any level if they can handle it.

no, getting a pinata full of goodies is iffy. i've seen a lot of FB runs where the boss only dropped a few coins....and i do mean a few. a whole lot of little piles of 15/20 coins each...bleah.

on the other hand/paw, when you are able to, run the FBs on your own. and see what you get....sometimes just the coins, sometimes the boss turns into a pinata! last time my son ran the human FB19 on his own, he got a couple of good moulds, and a bunch of blue starred stuff. you just never can know

but one thing i do want to put out for comment/discussion: is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that when the dist is set on random, the higher level players always seem to get the lions share of good stuff? i've seen this over and over again, since starting the game, and its really frustrating to see a player who is way too high to use the items getting them all, knowing that the tabber could use the items, but the high level player keeps them all...presumably to sell or melt down for chi. that has never seemed right to me, and i really dont understand why the random dist seems to favour the high levels...

    1) Congratz on doing the FB. ^^ I've never found enough people to do one of my low level FBs at level. Sounds fun. And challenging. And I'm too lazy to reroll onto another server. b:chuckle

    2) Like everyone's said before, you just got unlucky. That happens. Once, I ran a human '19, just myself, and got two molds and a 3**. My BM was 6x at that time (during a 2x event). All the other times-- coins. Bosses are really weird with their drops. Or when I was just discovering the solo abilities of my Veno, and was soloing her BH39s-- never got a good drop. And 5x isn't a far cry from 39/40-ish (only 10-15 levels). And with the amount of times I ran that instance, I should've gotten something nice.

Though... the molds from '19s are pretty worthless, imho, so you should probably look at it as more doing it for the challenge than for the drops. I would've found it fun. ^^

I remember doing my fb19 in my mid 20's with 3-4 friends from my college who were also in their 20's. We were two BMs (one of whom left mid-run), a barb, a cleric, and me. None of us knew what we were doing... I kept stealing aggro from mobs, our cleric wasn't yet aware that ironheart > pureheart, and the barb wasn't yet aware that spamming flesh ream is good on the boss. We wiped only once and then came back for more.

The boss (the elven one) kept switching targets between me, the barb and the BM. What we eventually did was took turns going in the little water pool off to the side in order to clear our aggro, letting him aggro the other guy who still had full HP. We... really had no idea how aggro worked at that point. XD At one point I was just firing arrows from the pond.

But we eventually killed it, and we didn't get anything particularly good. :P

lol, fb 19? that's easy peasy.
Try to do FB69 with everyone lvl 69 or below, 1 tank and 1 cleric. Have fun....:)

um, the tabber gets all drops regardless of the original distribution...
at least that's how it works in DW...

in other squads i think it's ok (IF such a system exists)
maybe with some damge dealt, damage taken, life healed modifiers?
    but i think it's random

I have seen quite a few runs where someone (not the tabber) ends up with a mold and quick leaves squad. The only reason I know that it was truly a steal is I was friends with the tabber, and as of yet (been months) he still hadn't gotten it...so yeah, it depends on the moral quality of those in the squad. (And before you ask, it had been stated that tabber got all drops)

This all depends on what the leader has it set to when they make the squad. They can set it to "Free" and then only take the good stuff, but this doesn't happen often. I did it yesterday, but only when the squad agreed to it because I supplied free wines.

I guess I was just unlucky. It was fun thought.
The 3 tanks were switching aggro every 30 seconds to get heal. I managed to tank for a whole minute through the use of chaos powder and proper timing of hp pot.

    Update.
Did another FB19 with the faction.
    1 tank (me), 1 cleric, 1 mage, 1 veno, and 1 psychic.
The highest lvl is 28 psychic.
The boss dropped a 3 star necklace (with two unidenifited).
