I dont get it. Srsly.

So this mobs reap my HP (and MP), but it shows that they only deal 1dmg. Does this mean they have a insane attack rate or something?

From what i've seen, only melee classes seem to handle the job easily. It seems that while fighting them in melee, they dont spam their mag attack. I've seen many archers, psy's, clerics and wizards Die when tanking these mobs.

Anyways, what i want with this post is to understand these mobs.
Do they

- really deal 1 dmg, but like 500 times per second (only explanation possible i see for them to eat through my HP like they do

- or is it a game bug/glitch that shows wrong damage in the chat box?

I personnaly dont have a problem killing the mobs. My wife is a sin, and she tanks and keeps aggro ok, even though shes 10 lvls lower than me =\.

It's easy. Those mobs do a mana burn with their casts.

And those are real mana BURNS, not like everything else which just reduces targets mana.

They deal only 1 damage per attack and cast, but the side effect of the casts is a mana burn of around 1k i think, meaning with every cast they only deal this 1 damage to you.
But at the same time they burn your mana for lets say 1000 and you get those 1000 mana lost as damage to your HP too and that isn't shown in the damage log.

So just deplete most of your mana before fighting them, because if you lose none or just a bit of mana, they won't do very much damage. So physical classes have an advantage here, they don't have much mana that can be burned, but still deal good damage with their normal attacks.

That's why venos are the best to fight those. Their pets don't have any mana that could be burned, so they only get this 1 damage per attack and cast.

My hubby's a barb and he too only receives 1 dmg each time from MQ mobs. I however take a lot lot more when I attack them so we kinda came to the conclusion that the mob's long ranged attacks hurt more than melee attacks. To test this out I switched to my claws and sure enough, I took only 1 dmg too.

in short: fight these mobs up close! Their ranged attacks are the ones that hurt.
(this applies to the MQ spiders too)
When I got the meaning of melee mixed up:
'Maj.. Melee ffs.. means I'm punching you in the face 1 foot away!'

Wouldn't it follow that, even if you're a caster, standing next to the mob so that it melees would negate the long-range HP/MP death?

Those bosses would kill me too, until I started using my fist weapon (currently a double-flawless AoS) to tank them. The way my gf (cleric) and I do it is:
    • I start off with sharptooth arrow (lower max HP); she stacks a few heals on me
    • I stun it, then run in and switch to fists by the time it recovers
    • I double spark combined with Extreme Poison, then continue hitting until I have 2 sparks again
    • Second double spark + poison. At this point she begins to DD, making the rest of the fight go much quicker.

It takes a little under a minute to accomplish all this. Not nearly as fast as actual melee classes, but it works and nobody dies. :P
