EPIC FAIL ON ME. TITLE IS SUPPOSED TO BE, "Convince me to play this GAME".

Hey there folks!

I'll get right down to the nitty-gritty. I've been playing MMO's for about 8 years, and am currently on the lookout for a new one to try out. For the better part of the last 5 years, I played *removed* VERY competitively (top 100 US guild, and gladiator in 8/9 seasons). I also casually played *removed*, and even gave *removed* a go.

Point is though, is that I'm ready for a change of pace. I loved *removed*, but I've had enough of it. I feel I've done just about everything worth doing, and at this point, its just the same old stuff over and over again.

The point of my thread? I want you Perfect World players (if you'd be so kind) to convince me to play YOUR game. What better way to get an idea of if I'll enjoy PW than from the players themselves? I'm looking for a game that has a great sense of character progression (that actually feels like an accomplishment. Getting to the max level shouldn't be easy/should take a while imo), has a good community, and plenty of stuff to do. I also loved playing the economy in *removed*. Does PW have a thriving economy that supports individual growth?

Just tell me anything else you'd like to share as well! Oh, and before anyone mentions it, I'm aware that this game has a cash shop that is more or less required to get the most out of this game. Thats fine with me, I'm an adult with a steady source of income.

Thanks for your time,
-Traubster

Community is ok .. If you want any of the rest better off looking for another game. Most sense of accomplishment has been removed since now you Can Cashshop your level and gears.

well hai there and only 8 years?
    b:puzzled
    a respectable time.
    b:thanks
well what me would personally suggest is take a break from the entire mmorpg genre for a while, being burnt out a mmorpg could mean you be getting a bit bored of the entire mmorpg style of play.

but other then that, sure leveling does (or used to at least) give a sense of accomplishment (or so me hear, me not exactly a good source as it's all old stuff to me as well also ehh some new content such as hyper exp stones and such makes leveling ridiculously easy now), it does have quite a nice community, and me suppose plenty to do but only at higher levels.

also yes you can play with the economy and do quite nicely.

Sihndra: Nope- not currently possible under any circumstances. Sorry.

Unfortunately, there are Oracle books that many players use to rapidly gain levels with very little effort. When the newest PvE server opened (Archosaur), in less than a week, some people there went from level 1 to the 60s-70s, if not higher. You would have to be a major cash shop user to do that. So if you avoid the Oracles and gradually level at a normal pace, it will feel like an accomplishment.

Although there are plenty of helpful players on here, some have that "pro" mentality that makes them think they know how to play the game better than anyone else. To them, if you don't play their way, you suck. Pfff, whatever. It's your character, play it how YOU want to.

You've come very late to the party. Depending on what class you pick it's somewhere between "moderately interesting" and "a total breeze" to blow through the first forty levels. And after that, the daily quest/exp rewards offered will pretty much pave you an express route into your 90's and beyond.

Don't misunderstand, the dailies are optional, so if you want to do things the old-fashioned way, feel free. In fact, I'd encourage it. But be aware that these days, a healthy chunk of the playerbase past 40 are rarely seen outside instanced dungeons. "Questing" in the traditional sense has somewhat fallen by the wayside, with the exception of the necessary Spiritual Cultivation quests to help you advance your character's skills.

    has a good community,
Matter of some debate. We've all got our rotten apples, I suppose - it just seems like many of them have too much extra coin to spend on world-shout telecoustics here.
and plenty of stuff to do. I also loved playing the economy in *removed*. Does PW have a thriving economy that supports individual growth?
Let's see, you can kill monsters/farm mine points for materials and learn crafting, kill monsters to grind coin, kill monsters for quests, kill different monsters for quests, or kill boss monsters for important quests.

The only quest-line with any real sense of variety to it is the recently-added Tideborn one - which gives you a ****-load of experience & spirit points, plenty of good rewards, and a bucket of mirage stones for refining gears (only really important in the 70+ range).

As for "thriving economy", I'd say definite yes on that score. Merchants seem to have become a class all their own these days. The only downside there is, in order to operate a player shop, you have to remain logged in. A lot of folks will keep at least one (sometimes more) "shop alts" to hold and sell items, so that their main character & account isn't frozen in place in Lagosaur (er, I mean Archosaur).

Just tell me anything else you'd like to share as well! Oh, and before anyone mentions it, I'm aware that this game has a cash shop that is more or less required to get the most out of this game. Thats fine with me, I'm an adult with a steady source of income.

If you're keen on PvP, you'll need to get out your pocketbook, or get VERY good at merchanting. While you can get through most of the game without spending a dime, PK is another matter, especially at high levels where expensive gear and high refines become important. But I'm on a PvE server and don't do PvP except for an occasional duel (which is not "true" PvP, the way open-world PvP is). So I'm not particularly qualified to answer PvP/PK questions.

If you have to be convinced, than you should not be playing it.

And personaly I would rather you go find some other game you want to play, than to join this game and be complaining all the time because we convinced you to play the game and it turned out not to be want you dreamed about.
Too often we loose sight of life's simple pleasures. Remember, when someone annoys you, it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, BUT, it only takes 4 muscles to extend your arm and slap that mother#$@%#^! upside the head.

I am not anywhere near end-game content yet and up until the level I am now, I've always found so much new stuff to figure out and learn. In my opinion, this game is dieing from cash shop items such as hyper exp stones (I don't even use esotherica's), although I must say it's tempting to start using those at the level I'm at now. There are still a lot of challenging goals for me to achieve though, so I for one won't be leaving any time soon. Just try it and see if you like it, don't depend too much on the part of the community that's on the forums.

As for the community as a whole... world chat makes me giggle during my herb farming. b:chuckle
