Crystalline Magmites are near Timberfeld, just run around the village and you'll see them.

Volcanic Magmites are in Firecrag Grotto, that's the Call to Duty cave for humans, at 403 998.

Honestly I'd get a glacial walker if I were you. You might have to get someone to go tame one for you down in tideborn area, but its worth it. Build it like a herc and you'll be golden till about level 60

I have a Glacial Walker at my Veno. I actually don't know if it's better than a Volcanic or Crystalline Magmite, but I like it more.
Like Vyernia said, you can ask someone to tame it in the Tideborn Area, but you can probably go yourself too. Just teleport to the City of Raging Tides. The Glacial Walkers are at the Wavebreaker Cliffs or near them.

The Crystalline Magmites are level 17, the Volcanic are 18, and the Glacial Walkers are 19.
You won't be able to use them until you reach their level.

I hope you don't mean skill wise as it isn't worth it just buy a Herc.
Looking for a decent casual understanding Faction.

I'm just saying from experience, until I got my herc, I had a walker and built it like a herc, skillwise. I was able to solo my bhs with the walker just as easily as I can with my herc.

Also, not everyone has the resources it takes to get a herc. And its not the pet that makes the player.

You mean you went out and did a ton of of RBs to get the skills and to put them on your walker. You could of sold them to make enough coin to buy gold to get a Herc.

Actually I didn't pay for my herc (a present) and I got lucky and bought like 10 pet skill books for 25k each on auction to build the walker.

    And for clarification:
    skill book costs approx 200-300k.
Right now, 1 gold costs 400k.
    1 SoF costs 9k average
    9,999 Sof = 89,991,000 coins
    89,991,000 coins = 225 gold.

Still MUCH cheaper to buy skills than to buy a herc.

@Vyernia - I think MystiMonk is wondering if by building your walker "like a herc, skillwise" means that you put the exact same skills on it that come on a Herc - reflect, strong, and protect. Because those skills go for about 20mil each in the AH on DW server. Hence her comment about wondering why you wouldn't just sell those skills to help pay for the Herc.

If you did actually get those skills for 25k in the AH you are unbelievably lucky! Otherwise, I'd like to know what skills you put on the walker so I know what you mean by building it "like a herc."

If you're paying 9k for SoF, you're giving the cat shop a 15% profit margin. That is, 85% of your hard-earned money is going to pay for your herc. The other 15% is going into the cat shop owner's pocket.

400k gold works out to an SoF cost of 7612 if you convert the coin to gold yourself at the auctioneer. Please see this chart I made to save everyone the trouble of doing any math.

A battle pet pack gives on average 26.8 SoF/feathers. So your final cost is going to be about 186.5 gold, which is ~76 million after gold exchange fees.

The 2 defense buff skills and reflect are not available at the Zoologist. They come from only the Dragon Temple event, and are very rare. When they do become available, they regularly sell for about 15-20 mil each. On top of that, you have to level each of them to 5, which is an additional 800k each. I could add the price for Pounce (which is even rarer), but most people remove it from their herc so I'll leave it out.

So your total cost to get and add the skills to a walker will be 47.4-62.4 mil. For that, you get a pet with about 70% the hp, considerably less mdef and movement speed, and slightly less pdef and damage than a herc.

If you're patient and wait til the end of the month when the packs go away, gold should drop back down to 300k, at which point the herc will cost you 57 mil. If you're really patient, you convert the coin to gold and leave it there until there's a sale. Then you can get your herc for 46 mil or even 34 mil.

So you are much better off just buying a herc.
