aggro control for Psychics

One other downside to this build is that it is much easier to steal aggro from your squad's tank, which can be quite dangerous with such low HP. Learning aggro control is a must for this build.

that is so true lol, i don't know how many times ive seen DD'ers just keep attacking even after they have got agro; your supposed to stop attacking at that point, it does bother me a bit =p0 -

hold back longer than a wizard, I made it a game with a friend and I took agro within 4 attacks with him spamming flesh ream. (this was in 59 where it was safe for me to do so) we bounced back and forth agro till I crit 2 more times and I was keeping agro. so yes, use no voodoo or white, and hold back a while.I'm a guy, not a woman, that is all

I swear, at least 25% of the DDs I've ever known are mystified at the very concept of not skill spamming...
But anyway... in terms of actual useful advice for the OP: just wait. I like to follow this formula:
1. Wait for tank to build up aggro - depending on the tank this takes a few seconds to a couple of minutes
2. Start off with weak or DoT skills (or plain arrows, for archers)
3. Don't go all-out until the boss is at least half dead.
Personally, with archer skills at my disposal, my contribution to bosses is usually:
1. Sharptooth Arrow
2. Stop, wait for tank to build aggro, and throw in an Extreme Poison so they can build up damage... wait for poison to go down before attacking again
3. Use Stormrage, then normal attacks or weak DoTs if I'm bored
4. Standard attacks until I've got 2 sparks
5. If boss has 10-15% HP left, Barrage until dead - otherwise return to step 3 :P
Since you're a psychic, I'd reccomend starting out with Torrent/Sand Trap, then moving on to more nuking-style skills. Communicate with your tank to find out if they don't mind you casting Soul of Vengence on them (often they do mind, or so I've heard... but if they can control the MP loss, it does help them with aggro). And of course, Empowered Vigor really helps the tank. :P[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

It's really not that simple.
Even if I try to not attack so much 1 good crit and it's aggro city.
As to stop attacking after u get aggro...
There have been times i got aggro and sat there for over good bit getting bashed up while he spammed flesh ream til his roar CD'd and he finally gets it back.
So it's sometimes a toss up what to do stop or keep hittin the mob.b:bye0 -

What you do when you pull aggro as a non-tanking DPS is to kite and throw up defensive skills (Hopefully the healer will do something if they can) while pulling mob back to the tank so they can pop aggro and cooldown skills to get whatever it is off you. Standing around is never a good idea. Blink, holy path, absolute domain, etc, just avoid taking hits and getting more aggro.Bladestorm lets you spin around like a carnival ride and do damage. Not using it is almost like having a move called Confetti Rocket Power Leap and saving it for "emergencies"

Yeah, kite (run away from slow cleric with the boss chasing you). All of the funniest instances I've ever been in had this in common. So, yes, please do this as your very first reaction.
On a more serious note, every DD should have a "panic button." Whatever skill, macro, pots you have that will give you a chance to survive long enough for the tank to get agro back. I haven't played psychic above 3x, so not sure what falls in this category, but wouldn't white voodoo be part of their panic button? I always see people advising psychics to use white voodoo all along. If you are going to scale your damage down that much throughout the boss, why are you there, though?"?" IS my avatar.0 -
It's really not rocket science, if like me you have 3 vit and a big whacking magic attack you have to know your own damage. I wait till the squads taken 1/4 off a mob hp, and at a boss, I wait for 5% off his hp then start slowly with DOTs.

Blink - This is a nickname for a wizard spell Distance Shrink. It jumps the wizard towards or away from a mob very quickly.
Holy Path/Absolute Domain - These are genie skills, Im no genie pro, sorry.
DD - damage dealer, archers, wizards, psychics, bms etc. The hard hitting classes that aren't tankers or healers are DD's.Samsoul - fail psychic of Lost City!

burn me, stone me , whatever u want but i have to say that
DD(damage dealer) is to deals huge dmg and Tanker is to hold agro
if some stupid barbs cant hold agro get a genie skill called Alpha male(agro genie skill)
if that still deasnt help, try harder
DD is not suppose to stop atak , use weaker skills or whatever unless its rly necesary
same lvl barb should hold agro what same lvl psychic if not dont QQ bout DD only bout barb who cant hold it.
the only point u have is if its not barb tanking only bm or other class, then u should whach youre agro.
advise for psychics: max youre sandrap, torren and soulburn
combo: sandtrap>atk>torrent>atk>soulburn>atk>sandtrap>.....
thats should not cause agro stealing at last its not for me
sorry if i pissed off few ppl here but i think many will agree with me

I must have bad luck, I was going to run in the range of 80%. But then again half the DD's I've run into are so weak they couldn't steal agro even if they tried from someone good 20 levels lower so I don't even consider them DD's. My cleric at 60 won the kill over a level 80+ wizard trying to ks a boss I had been waiting for first... He was a total d-bag saying I had to wait MY turn. b:angry Showed up his ****. \b:pleased0 -

I think I agree..... but only like halfway, lol.
I know where you're coming from in regards to having a barb that knows how to play their role in parties. I've been in many BH's/FBs where the barb has been my level, if not lower, and is still able to easily maintain aggro of the squad. These barbs always make my day:)
However, I think I'm kind of on the fence about you thinking that any barb should keep aggro if we're nuking like crazy. I think any DD class nows that what with our dmg output and possible crits, this is simply pushing it. Like any DD class, all Psy's need to do is moderate their dmg by means of normal attacks mixed with DOTs and for the most part, they should be fine.:)

In 59, mages usually tank because the bosses are water, wood, earth etc. That might have been the reason why.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Glancing through this stuff I agree with a lot of what's being said. I personally think the use of DoTs with regular attacks really helps. I enjoy soulburn, especially on pesky physical mobs that do a lot of repeated attacks. The biggest thing for me though is to just space out attacks where be, and to wait until the boss' (and if needed mob's) health is down 2-5% before attacking.
On my psychic I tend to notice, however, that a lot of people seem to be impatient with this class. I can get a fair number of "DD attack plz" and "DD you can attack now you know" really fast from other players, even after I've begun attacking and they just didn't notice. This isn't so on my wizard and I think the big thing is that on wizards you can see the longer channeling and attack graphics better, whereas with a psychic channeling finishes fast and with DoTs you can easily miss when I or any DD has begun to fight. This has begun to bother me more and more though because, please, recognize that my ability to steal agro early on in a fight is very high! I will not die because you think attacking before the tank's used flesh ream is going to help anything >:P0 -
Totally agree with Alyra here. At times I get a bit impatient myself and end up suiciding on mobs 'cause I wanted to aoe them. :<
