why the graphics nerf?

I came back to the game after about 2 months and i noticed the graphics have been nerfed quite badly. The fog is much closer than it used to be.
Flying on a mount before offered a very nice view, now it looks bad, you see mostly blue-ish fog.
I dont see whats the point of nerfing the game graphics like that, and is there a work-around?

It changes slightly depending on the time of day in-game. The graphics really haven't changed much in the last year or so.
Perhaps it's from coming back from a game with better graphics. The Element Client is pretty dated and does show signs of it's age.I post in forums. This one and others. That's why I post.0 -
You can adjust the fog distance (and just about everything else graphics wise) from the system settings menu.
Yes, it's dated, but I haven't seen quality decline, except for the fact that new additions means the settings my computer can run it well on (sometimes) are lower. At high quality, which is way too much for my computer anyways, looks pretty nice as far as MMOs go I think.0 -
If you just came back after a couple months I would check your settings. Some patches reset everything. So you have to redo your settings. That is most likely your problem or... you have best performance setting on......
Most likely the problem lies somewhere between the computer chair and keyboard....Retired

the graphics have been nerfed actually

I seem to remember the GMs saying something about the graphics had to be changed to allow for sins to appear transparent. I don't' remember what it was though >.<.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

Careful now, talking about locked threads will eventually doom this one if you do it too much.
That aside there have been graphic edits to the game, most of them minor and not that noticeable unless you're going out your way to look for them. My suggestion would be to check your settings in case a recent patch or expansion reset any, and then just play the game like normal.
If you go out looking for changes and things to complain about, then you start picking fault with the most ridiculous, smallest of things, even if it's barely even changed from how it used to be. Detracts from the whole game.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

You called it a bug at first, now you're calling it a nerf. Care to make up your mind? lolI post in forums. This one and others. That's why I post.0 -
The only "nerf" I've seen is the hair thing which makes the ends of each hair rough as to being smooth before the Raging Tide expansion. Other than that, I didn't really notice anything. Probably because I play on high quality most of the time.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

You do realize that doesn't make any sense. Perhaps you should look up both terms and familiarize yourself with them so you don't get further confused in this discussion.

I checked and double checked my settings, everything is maxed out just as it was before.
I know that during some periods of the day there was fog in some areas, but it was not lasting very long.
I traveled around quite a bit today and im positive the graphics have been nerfed, the ugly blue fog is much closer than it used to be, and there is fog everywhere now, even in areas where i never seen fog before...oh and its permanent too. This game should be called perfect fog
I liked using my fly mount just to enjoy the scenery, now this is gone because the scenery has been swallowed by the fugly blue fog.
I hope someone knows a workaround for this, messing with some config file maybe?
In its present shape and form i have no interest in this game anymore and thats annoying because i invested quite a bit of money in it b:cry0 -

Graphics have been downgraded, making them nerfed, not looking like they used to or better
because of this some outfits not have holes, transparency isn't working right yadda yadda. they are now bugged
perhaps you should try looking at things in another way?I'm a guy, not a woman, that is all

it really annoys me when people who have no understanding of graphics or game development post stuff like they think they know all about it because there level 100 and have nirvana gear, wake up people.. pro gear dosent make you a genius.

fog? maybe you might run a veryfy....we have 4 computers in our house, and none of them show the fog that used to be such a pain in the swamp and shattered jade. and speaking for myself, i am SO glad its gone!I came back to the game after about 2 months and i noticed the graphics have been nerfed quite badly. Maybe I am the only one, but I did notice a sorta dense purpleish fog in East Archosaur over by where the Elder and the port is, ever since the Tb expansion...
But I haven't noticed any major graphics issues.0 -

Yes I have noticed that part of archosaur is permanently foggy as well as where Viriddis hangs out is considerably darker now. I never used to notice it before but now when waiting for a boss to spawn or doing marrage quest and running from one end of archo to another it is very noticible0 -

Just lol. A method of rendering was changed, not to nerf the graphics, but to make more things possible. Go to Raging Tide, you'll see a lot of features in the game that weren't there previously... transparent glass being the most noticeable and the stupid TB meditate bubble. Also the polygon count of the buildings and textures are much more complicated and richer... something that the game engine can't handle sometimes when porting to RT from another city, hence the bug report crash.
Remember, this is a 3 year old game engine that's being pushed to it's very limits. There are compromises made, but as for a nerf? Be serious... Hair styles for the most part have not been changed. Some of the newer hairstyles do have more of a rough look at the ends, but not all of them, I assumed these new hairstyles were designed this way to give a different look. Perhaps the texture was saved with the wrong compression, but since this does not affect all hairstyles, any 'nerfing' of the hairstyle graphics is a bit of a silly argument because it does not encompass all of the hairstyles, and as for the clothes, they've always had rendering issues with clothes.... always. As I said, the engine is trying to do a little more than it can actually handle, and without a serious rewrite of the game code, most likely will never change.Santayana - Heavens Tear wrote: »looks like someone beat me too it

I have a degree in Systems Administration, was part of the Apogee / 3DRealms development team for over two years, spanning about 2 dozen different game releases... Your issues are petty and your claims are frivolous.
Especially, with a game of this size, scope and with so many different development teams working over the code for numerous years... it would even be amazing if any of the original developers are still with the company.you think were being stupid complaining about graphics bugs and nerfs, wait till the -interval on the Heavens Shatter bow gets bugged and does not work anymore, you will all be QQ'ing like mad, then we will call you little babys

The Heaven Shatterer doesn't have -interval. If you're going to be a self-righteous jerk and nitpick about the most minor of things, at least be correct about something rather than make assumption after assumption and claim it to be the truth when you really are clueless. :PI post in forums. Are we thinking of the same -interval here? Because that seriously looks like -interval on the HS.

The 'atmosphere/ambience zones' seem to have been misaligned since the TB release, but that isn't actually a "graphics nerf", just a sort of glitch/mistake.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

Tell me... what's your point in this thread?
If it's a disagreement with your own personal agenda or opinion, you ignore anything anybody says regardless of how constructive or not constructive it may be. You are then the person to start flaming everybody else first, demanding that they get off a thread because god forbid somebody says something you don't like.
You know... never mind when somebody says something you don't like, makes a constructive post about it and ****s your argument up so badly you look like the biggest moron around.

Name of thread "why the graphics nerf?". The graphics weren't nerfed.
