Level for Duels

What level is the minimum for a wizard to start dueling against other characters of the same level? Against what classes the wizard have a chance to win ?
I heard that a wizard is very strong against almost any class at end levels but the questions here are intended for early levels.

Level 3. It is super easy to beat melee class and veno at level 3. It is a toss up if you fight psychic though.
Too bad you are already level 35. The earlier the better, as you have higher chance of encountering a noob.0 -

So a level 35 wizard have chances against melee class? Any chance to beat clerics? Any recommendation about fight strategy?
I am a duels noob!0 -
Wizards like any class can duel from very beginning, its not really a question of wether or when you should start or not...
I could give you the whole duels isnt real pvp speach...(bla...bla...bla)...
but hey, i like duels ^_~
An though true duels arent real pvp, but they do allow you to experiment with your class, see what its like against other classes, try things out.
For a long time your gonna have low phys defence, an hp, most arhcers will be a B-itch for you an kill you very fast.
You ask about mellee classes, ive always been able to hold my own against people of the same level, bm's more than barbs though.
Yes you will have chances to kill clerics, if you learn your class well, have up to date decent gear etc...
Im not going to give any tips in this post, Im sure someone will happily give thier advice, all i can say is By all means, duel people, try things, learn, experiment, make friends, and just have fun with them.
Oh and expect to be called a noob a few times...lol0 -

How can a wizard duel at level 3 without distance shrink? There is any other way to avoid hits?
another question. I play on a PVE server but I want to be good on duels. I have being doing this with my points: 8 MAQ + 1 STR + 1 VIT every 10 points. Is that ok for doing instances and dueling at my level? or should i go: 7 MAQ + 1 STR + 2 VIT?
Any warning about skills?0 -

before 79-89 its really hard to kill a good cleric with same eq but later will be fairly easier.
similiar about vit barb or vit axe bm
in low lv have few duel where hard or u cant win without good refined eq against a a good oponent (ok with pure mag build, i dont tested low lv light mg only once with my cleric but there was normal i won each duel cause spam heal and sleep)b:surrender0 -
I only play like 6 hours every week so I know I will stay being a low level for quite some time. So I wonder if I should go Full Int or LA or hybrid at my level. Please understand that I want to be good at DUELS not PVP since I am on a PVE server and I wont get TW for long time. But of course I don't want to suck when playing on instances.0

I undertand LA will be better for duels and PVP. But How LA hold on PVE under level 90? better or worst than Full Int?0 -

I mean who will kill more mobs faster and dies less. Also why LA does more agro?0 -
Tawnos - Dreamweaver wrote: »I mean who will kill more mobs faster and dies less. Also why LA does more agro?
not la does more agro but simple u get more mob on u sometimes cause mobs are close to eachother.
obviously pure mag kill faster use less potion but same time could die more often and easier.
a bit inbalanced if u dont spend too much money to ur wizz but want same time the best mob killer and best in surviveing.
u must chosse beetween a bit slower but safer killing or faster but a bit risky.0 -

WRONG.
LA sux for duels imho. Never lost to an LA wizzie my level, and I can say that with confidence - and I'm a duel junkie. Only good for pvp and pve maybe (and duels against melee users...maybe, but your dmg is still gimped - I'll explain below).
Wizzie duels...are like showdowns in those cheesy western cowboy movies. It's all in the reflexes and doing a crapload of damage (i.e. headshotting). LA gimps damage to a point where the added pdef doesn't help all that much. Being an arcane user, I win duels generally by avoiding getting hit altogether (distance shrink, seals, sleep).
I've always been arcane full mag, I could duel after 59 somewhat, and after 79, I just became plain hard to beat (not trying to be arrogant, but I can beat 9x archers who don't have lunar bows, 9x barbs, 9x wizzies, psys my level, venoes who don't use a nix/herc, and high 8x clerics who don't spam heal).
Honestly, for a wizard, it's really quick reflexes and knowing your skillbar completely through that wins your duels. Know other classes+their tricks, and avoid them. Arcane+maxing your damage+seals+getting whisper is really important.0 -

pls read this tooI only play like 6 hours every week so I know I will stay being a low level for quite some time.
and only mage and physihic attack the a wizz in low lv only with mattack. so in low lv better i think the la for duel.
about u beat 9x archer with ur 85 mage, its ok, i beated with lv70 archer a lv90 wizz if he attacked another target XD0 -

I remember (once) i beat a level 85 red named archer that tried to gank me when I was level 61 or 62. He stunned me and I fumbled my response but once I got things going things worked right for me. Of course it helped that I knew things about how to play that he did not understand.
Or, a week or two ago, a 9x zulu archer fought me inconclusively in 1v1 and he had to get his wife to help him to kill me, despite him having a 14 level advantage.
So, anyways, I can easily believe an 85 mage can beat a 9x archer in a "fair" 1v1 fight.
well ive killed a 95+ archer who was a bit confused about what was hittin him
he only got 2hit me once and i had 8 hp left

ok if u hope everybody noob ofc then u can try beat everybody, the problem starting if target not nub XD
(idk but i never got any similiar lv wizz what could kill my archer at 1-89 in pk, exclude 1 cash shoper light armor user when he was full buffed)
and after i reached 9x with archer i never got problem with 8x wizz exclude if heavy refined, when i died with archer mostly was against 90+ wizz :P
sorry i got difference experience since i play pw than u about how easy kill a archer who is higher and u are 89-.
in my case i dont used +4-5 gear, only my tt80 xbow was +5 and ofc i allways got hiero like most of opponent since i stayed in kosed guild.0 -

Not everyone I duel is a noob. When I talk about archers, I'm including one's that have good gear and use winged shell and wings of grace at the start of the duel and use their stun. Being that I check the duel scene everyday, it's not like I haven't encountered good archers. And there are also archers my level who can beat me, so I'm not saying I can beat everyone or have an easy time beating people even at that, so you're exaggerating the points I've made. Lastly, I don't use incredibly wtfsauce gear either - in fact, I've spent a max of $5 on the game. My best gear is a +5'd aquadash.
My point is that for dueling, skilled LA wizzies don't do as well as skilled arcane wizzies - I've witnessed it as well (I think I will omit one LA wiz I know who is very talented though). Still, the trend is there.
Me thinks you're being too sensitive, yeah? I still think wizzie duels are matches of killing as fast as possible - we're not meant to be endurance meatsheilds, like barbs. So in duels, where good duelers have good damage and can kill you fast, maximizing damage is key.
You really only have 3 secs from your seal (2 sec cast) and 4 secs from sleep, which is basically the time you have to win.0 -

No we didn't...We were still talking about dueling...And even if the some other posters talked about pking, it doesn't matter since I was specifically addressing the title/OP's topic. b:bye
Edit: Just scanned pages 1+2 for the word "pk" - only ding was from you.
Pvp was mentioned, but in context of dueling.
Pve was also mentioned in terms of aggro.
That's about it.0 -

I...don't really understand what you said...0 -
I must admit, that as my server's last possible LA wiz over 90, other gaining circus freak status, dueling at any level for me has always been more about knowing what you have rather then daydreaming about what you want...if wishes were fishes.....
For the record at my level mobs still don't touch me(though i usually cast one more spell then my AA counterparts) and I can beat a charmed barb my level... a one armed man can still win an arm wrestling match if he spends time refining his technique as well as his gear.
That said, I will say that certain classes became easier at certain levels, up until i learned distance shrink every duel was about practice, not winning, It is easier to learn from defeat then it is victory.
By The time i aquired Fow and DS I went from losing badly to barely losing with only the skills I had, once those 2 skills were learned(at their appropriate levels) I found myself winning more, and again stepping up the duel/lose until other skills were learned.
Now my LA build is extreme, designed for archers/BM/Barbs NOT for anything arcane, my alternate set of arcane armor allows me to stay alive a hair longer looking for that high damage spell or CRIT again fellow wizzy or cleric. This was done on purpose, again to use the one phrase associate with my ilk "different"
In my strange LA universe this is what i felt was good dueling levels(i will actually use skills rather then levels)
BEFORE DISTANCE SHRINK: you only chance of doing decent is to use third most loathed attack spell in the wizzy arsenal....pitfall, regardless of unpopular opinion run/gush/pit/run/gush/pit is kinda fun. BARBS and BMs are your easiest prey, not to say its a slam dunk.
BEFORE FORCE of WILL : your DS will help, and aquiring WILL of PHOENIX adds a great spell to your arsenal, gush/DS/PIT/WoP/Run worked for me very nicely, suddenly I felt a boost of confidence . And lets not forget SANDSTORM(if pitfall freezes this is a game winner). At this point Barbs are easier, BM's become easier AND archers become manageable. Gush/Pitfall/DS right next to archer then WoP..risky but fun as hell.
BEFORE ULTIMATES(BiD/MS/BT) : FORCE of WILL is kinda like Wizzy Puberty, like that first black hair under your arm or on your chin. at this point so much becomes possible...two words..GLACIAL SNARE. BARBS should be easy BM no longer feared, ARCHERS & CLERICS should be your new focus since the other 2 are water under the bridge.
AFTER ULTIMATES but BEFORE 79: This is your trial by fire, take everything you know, and bring it on. duel without your ultimates, they take too long. You have 20 levels to hone your skills until you become the true master of disaster............
by the time you hit 79, you should be on par with all the classes and find yourself say "man, if I only had the ability to...." ask no further, I bring you......
AFTER 79, bwhahha *snort* Bwahaha: Ok, here is the deal...sleep/no channeling/ 30k magical defense for 4 seconds, the only thing missing is a rainbow shooting out your butt.
Now I am a no holds barred dueler, use all your skills, i dont use genie, I heal.
How someone can lose to a barb/bm after Whisper/DS/Sutra/Heal/GLACIAL/SS/GUSH is beyond me. Archers and clerics should be the only ones you need to be on your A-game.
Now i know alot of this MAY be biased due to my build(which is easier for melee types) My 11% crit rate also has skewed my opinion, but i believe this is balanced by the fact i do the damage of a AA wiz 10 levels lower then me.
Clerics and arcane wizzys crush me most of the time, you noticed i didnt mention VENOS cuz they never stand still or hide in pet and i cant select them, I just kill thier pets outta spite.
Tideborn? I am holding my opinion until the Designers Nerf them one day when everyone is sleeping.
Every duel is as important as the last and more important then the next, use your time spent dueling wisely instead of whining about losing and turning it into a pissing contest. Just like real life learn from your mistakes, as one of my in-game mentors told me " If you don't lose the same why twice, eventually you won't lose at all".
Have fun critiquing my opinion and correcting my syntax and grammar, but do it with style and grace.0 -

Ali's and my styles are very different though, yet both are successful (just shows how versatile wizzies are ).
I go for the headshot bang 2-second duel. Ali has enough pdef to survive a few hits and heal - then blasts em during their major skill cooldowns.
Both have their advantages and drawbacks, like I have trouble with proper bm's (who use bodhi) but can take on clerics+archers a lot better, and Ali has trouble with archers/clerics (probably the spam healing type) but is much better at dueling bm's.

LA wiz is disadvantaged against arcane wizards due to lower dmg and lower magic resistance but gain survivability against archers and melee classes.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
