Who think that it make no sense to have self-centre AOE to require enemy target?
Who think that it is better to allow location targeting AOE?
Vote and discuss.

Hmm, I think I'll put out an AoE attack randomly *uses Earthen Rift*. Oh, hi other Assassin who was trying to sneak up on me to attack but I happened to knock out of stealth by using AoE without a target.

Wizard: Hmm, I'm gonna just shoot of a Will of Phoenix. Oh, I knocked an Assassin out of stealth, sorry sir, I shall just kill you now.

I think you can see where I am going with this. While I am being more direct about the Assassin (seeing as that is the class I can perform with best), I am sure this will also have negative effects in other cases. For the Assassin, I can say that if this were to be changed, I personally would want it so that no players can be accidentally hit by a random AoE attack. No need for a target means you can just shoot it off at random, which defeats the purpose of the skill being meant for attacking a particular mob/player and all the ones around it.

As for purpose, I do not see what one this kind of change would fulfill. The system is fine as it is, and it works as it is intended to do so.

i think the reason is that whatever you target gets hit. if AOEs like will of the phoenix or BIDS don't take a target to cast, instead just casts on an area, then people can dodge it if they're fast enough. right now your spell homes to the target player, imagine if it didn't. similarly, barrage of arrows move with their target. it makes the game easier to play, probably accounting for higher pings when the game was made. i can sort of understand making DB self targeted tho

in games like DoTA, AOEs are area targeted, and you can hit invisible heroes that way as well as dodge AOEs too. but as it is a competitive game, people expect to perform under much lower delay than this game.
