I spent over 350,000 coin in materials to try to upgrade my armory skill and did not even get 1 two-star item which is pretty lousy. If you spend that much on a quest you should get it.

That's why you make your own shop and buy the mats cheap.. or farm them. Don't buy them from other people unless you're desperate.

The crafting trials are indeed expensive, so trust me when I say I feel for ya. But they aren't necessary. You only need to do them if you want the ability to put your name on your gear. If you have a faction or high level friends, you can ask them to craft things for you.

If you really want to do it yourself, try and find some friends in the 50s or 60s who might still have the mats you need (purified oil, etc.) and ask them to sell it to you. I, for instance, have way more purified oil than I will ever need... because I only allowed my main to progress past lv3 of any crafting skill. In contrast, I ran low on Glaze (the lv4 equivalent to purified oil) a couple weeks ago and ended up purchasing some from a friend in the 90s for very cheap.

Finally, you could always check the auction house for the items you need. Contrary to what the quest says, you don't have to craft them yourself. You can even turn in an item with someone else's name on it. Unfortunately, most people know the value of those items and will overcharge for them - just watch the AH carefully to see how the prices change (by the way, 3-star items won't count... you need 2-star).

Yes, I'm still a stubborn holdout in favor of the old game. Haters gonna hate. ;]

You could alway do it the fun way us old timers did it, and spend hundreds of hours grinding your lvl on the mob types that give the proper drop. In a good hour, you can even get 5 or so if you don't have the option to AoE.
Fist are the worst at PvP AND PvE, if you disagree, as I said, take it to PM's or make your own guide. Go here if you want to debate about it. - Lyndura

Get a High lvl Fist warrior use it, Restat to axes. GG - complexx

    +2 on grinding.

With the 2x drop event, chances are that an hour or two of grinding will get you all the mats you need. One of my alts got like 15 purified oils just from grinding out a x/x mobs quest. b:victory

Everyones in the same boat. I used up 120 rough furs to get 1 out of 3 blacksmith items. Ive been grinding since 2 x and now have 200 rough furs ready to go. Just those rough furs are selling in the AH for 800k or thereabouts. I got lucky with tailor lvl 5. I made 5 items in total I think and 3 were the 2 star I needed. Now for craftsman.....

Forget buying 2 star items. The last one I saw was 750k starting price.

You're already complaing? Wait till you wana upgrade to rank six... it took me like a month to get my **** together (bought half the items in the AH and I'm proud of itb:bye)! Seriously, 500-800k for a lame 2-star was cheaper then the 10% of getting my own. If you're REALLY desperate just buy the $30 box, for 10m in game coin b:chuckle
Okay... the real advice: if its too much of a bother, don't. There's no need for you to have any crafting skills. Apo is nice for personal use, but that is very easy to level. As for the others friendly guild members are there to help!

I decided to try doing my own crafting for the lvl 6 skills.... And I'm glad I did.. I made almost all the 2* stuff on first or second try, so those were cheap for me to get... The level 4's back at 50? Not so much. -.-
Don't mind me, I'm just here for the free food!

High levels decom. OHT stuff for chi. OHT stuff only needs lvl 1 crafting skills to decomp. and gives perfect chi stones.
