Format of screenshots

I have been wondering about this for a while and searching these forums and google have not been able to answer it yet.

Are we at all able to change the default format in which screenshots are saved from .bmp to .jpg? The latter has much better quality and is much smaller in filesize, which helps prevent hogging up diskspace.

    If there is a way I would like to know as well, because also your screenshots have to be in JPG for a ticket, so I always have to resave them b:surrender

    I just use an old program to convert. ACDsee. IMO the newer versions suck but if u go to oldversion.com and download version 2.43, it's very quick and very easy. mainly an image viewer but will also convert quickly and in bulk between many popular formats.

    **edit** on and while it's shareware, it only nags you but doesn't quit working.

    I have no problem converting them, I just really don't like to make that a part of my game play. I rather play the game and not worry about having to convert the screenshots I took than having to go over a dozen or more screenshots every time to convert them.

    What I want is for me to be able to choose in which format my screenshots are saved in by default.

    Just for the record (since this bugs me), JPEG does NOT have better quality than BMP.

    JPEG is a lossy image format, thus some details are lost, especially sharp edges, when an image is stored as a standard JPEG image. This is why text in screenshots can become blurry when converting images from BMP to JPEG (though a lower compression/higher quality setting can usually minimize this).

    BMP (bitmap) is a lossless format, so it is 100% identical to the original image, i.e. perfect quality. However, BMP files are normally uncompressed, thus waste a lot of file space.

    If you want perfect quality and a smaller file size, PNG (pronounced "ping") is the way to go. It uses a lossless compression format that supports higher color depths than GIF.

    Admittedly you won't usually get smaller PNGs than JPEGs, but you won't have any quality loss either.

    I'm pretty sure there are some 3rd party programs that will do this for you. I'll kick this over to tech support, where you are more likely to get an answer.

    Open them in mspaint.exe. Save as jpg b:victory

    3rd party programs will allow you to save them in better compression ways vs. quality. GIMP, Paint Shop Pro, etc...
    Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

    Darth, you totally missed the point b:surrender

    We know how to change them after we've taken them, the question was if there's an option ingame to save automatically as JPG instead of BMP when they're taken. I guess by your answer that's a no though.

    No, there is no option in-game to change the screenshot format.
