HP vs Phys Def

I imagine this has been asked before, but I could not find it in the search function.

I understand there is a diminished return on Phys Def in the 10k-12k area.

However, prior to that, what is the difference between HP and Phys Def in terms of min maxing?

IE - Would I rather have 100hp or 100 Phys Def? 100 HP or 250 Phys Def?

Is there a straight conversion anywhere, something like 25 Phys Def = 1hp worth of Damage reduction?

    (Damn these forum now load so long after changes, make me has to rewrite again.)

    I think phy def worth more, but in pvp as a barb people fear your hp. b:chuckle

    Phy def (and magic def) have to increased so much after reaching some point.
    If you ask 100 hp and 100 def of course 100 def worth more.

    These like if you has 5000 phy def, on info it said will reduce 60% damage from foe at your lv.
    To get more than 60% you need to add many phy def point, which make it seem worth more to get hp instead.

    And on other case for magic attack surely it better to has hp than phy def.

    Case 1: equip oriented P def: lot of items with pdef bonuses (so less Hp). U become really strong against phys mobs. The first time u meet a mag mob (or boss) u die, cause low mag def and Hp. FAIL

    Case 2: equip oriented to magic def: b:laugh muahahah u are not a barb, u are a furred wizzy. b:pleased

    Case 3: Vit equip: lot of items with VIT bonus. ViT increase your mag and phys def too, also u have 17 hp each VIT point. b:victory

    If I had the money to refine all my gear to +12, I would have garnet gems in every single socket.

    Refine armors for hp, refine mdef belt+neck for mdef, and add garnets in sockets for +pdef.

    Though, that pipedream was before +1/+2 def stones were introduced. No idea if those would be more effective (though I can say they would certainly be cheaper than the above proposed plan lol).

    i would go for hp all the way =p.. more hp, more dmg with arma.. staying longer alive in pvp
    you can tank pretty much good even with "less" pdef.. well our pdef isnt that low coz of HA and trueform .. b:laughb:laugh

    So far Im even or just behind BMs with my current gear in terms of Phys Def. I don't PVP at all.

    I was just wondering if there was a straight up conversion for comparison, but if its sort of a "after 60% its not worth much" issue, Ill stick to my HP wh0ring. (11.7 so far at 70...)

    Generally, Bm's have more phys def than barbs because of their buff, and their phys marrow. Barbs are more about the HP, so I find focusing more on HP first is better for the "affordable" barb.

    If you happen to have the ridiculously rich barb, Lycanthar already mentioned that scenario b:laugh
