After creating 1 character on the new server, I got this message trying to make a second char:

The maximum number of players has been reached b:shocked

GMs have you not expanded max number of chars we can have when opening the new server?

What is max number of players you can have?

And are you going to raise the char cap for the players?

    I would assume they just want to make sure that there aren't a whole bunch of low-level alts RIGHT when the server opens. Give it a few days to calm down and I am sure it will go back up.

    The new server shares a name database with 2 pre-existing servers. Ya that's right, if a name is taken on either of the other 2 west coast PVE servers, it's unavaible in the new one.

    I would imagine they impose a limit of 1 toon per account to prevent people from taking all the good names too fast No clue how long this limit will be imposed, but should be temporary I'm betting.

    Actually the login server hosts accounts for all of the servers. Character info is most likely held on the particular server though. Character names are only limited by your choice on a particular server. You can, if you're lucky, pick a character name that hasn't been taken on any of the servers and make 8 of them with the same name.

    At least from what I can tell...

    Some of the servers share name databases, which is the case with the West Coast PvE servers. It was announced that they would be sharing name databases when the GMs announced the exact time for the maintenance (seperate event thingie).

    Industry standard for server capacity is 10k players although i don't have a figure for PWI. Considering a large percentage, if not the overwhelming majority, of chars will be alts for already active players, it would've made sense for them to set a cap early on to make sure the server isn't flooded. Especially since until now players are free to have as many as six chars on any server.

    I have one of each character type on Dreamweaver, just in case I ever feel like playing a different character on a certain day...most of them aren't over 30 though. I only have 3 characters on this account 30+

    I got it as soon as I tried to log on right after maintenance. I even posted a reply asking about it in the maintenance thread. Still getting it when I try to make a new character for the new server.

    Are you sure it said "maximum number of players" and not "maximum number of characters". If it said "characters", then it's referring to the length of the name. Use fewer letters, and it should work.

    Let me know if this isn't the case though.

    I tried doing what you suggested to Born Again but it said the same thing "The maximum number of players has been reached."

    I'm using a 6 letter char name, all letters allowed, so itd def not the lenght.

    My guess is since i have 8 chars (max allowed) on each of the other servers, some limit (glitch?) has been reached. b:surrender

    And it's def saying players not characters.

    PS: I did run a verification of files, but didn't help.

    As you can see i'm not the only one experiencing this, so it has to be a programming error of some sort. I'm using Vista Home Edition if that helps.

    Also I used the / and \ in char name, could that trigger the glitch?

    This is a stupid question, and I'm sure we know the answer, but that message isn't pertaining to you having too many alts? whats the limit 7 characters (and not name related)? Again, sorry if this is a stupid question, but it seems like a possibility that hasn't been looked at I think. (maybe I skipped it in combing the thread)

    Nope. You can have up to 8 characters per server per account and once you've reached your 8, the create button fades out so you can't use make another character until you delete an existing one.

    I get the same kind of message... "Maximum number of players has been reached"

    What on earth could that mean? Too many players on the new Archosaur server already?

    Hey guys, so it turns out that each server database cluster can only have up to 16 unique characters on it.

    This means that you will only be able to create 16 characters total on Heaven's Tear, Sanctuary, and Archosaur.

    So if you're getting this error message and still need to create a new character on one of these servers, please try deleting a character :)
