I've been begged for money twice - once from a guild leader(whose faction I immediately left) who wanted money to get us to level two, and once from a random person.

Fac leader was basically bugging every new member we got to donate 1 mil or 2 mil to get the guild to the next level. When a random person asked me, I was on my panther riding into Lost to grab some pots before a BH. "got any gold" was the whisper. I ignored, and they didn't ask again, fortunately.

Strange. People see players with mounts and fashion and think we're rolling in the dough. There are those lucky people with 24 million coins, but...not everyone.

b:chuckle I'm constantly being asked everyday for money and stuff.

Like I'll be just walking through the catshops in Archosaur and I get PMs like "Cool fash!" or "Can I buy your fash cheap plz" and stuff like that...

Weird part is I get asked to be married a ton LOL. I guess some people are pretty greedy when it comes to money rofl.

Just ignore them and try to tell them nicely that you're not giving away money. If it gets super bad, screenshot the chat, blacklist them and submit a ticket. Though thats only if it gets too serious.

I will be straight with you

When I was level 2, and walked around Plume, and saw people with their TT70 bows and the TT80 X-Bows [TT90 was practically non-existent back when I started and the few players who had it had better things to do than be in Plume of all cities] I thought these people were the gods of the game short of GMs and assumed they were rolling in it too.

The difference is, rather then PM one of them begging for stuff thinking my assumption was correct, I just aimed to be like these people when I got to their level instead.

I think when you see somebody who would appear to have a lot of material wealth you naturally assume they have the coin to go with it.

Sadly, the catch is, the people with all that fashion, and those flashy mounts and aerogear, don't have that coin more often than not. Because they just spent it on all that cool looking stuff. >.>"

Now who wants to give me 3.1k SoF to get my veno a Herc?! Anybody? -ducks behind a flame proof shield-

Begging can take many forms in an MMO. It's become increasingly common for a lot of people to ask for for pots on instance runs. Decent people who genuinely forgot usually offer to buy them from you, i usually provide them with the pots they want at no charge if i have them. The rest i give nothing, we all have our costs and everyone should be expected to be fully prepared for a run they're squadding for.

why get mad over these people, have fun with them like i do.
I right click those ppl's name that are beggin in common chat, and follow them to the spot and trade them. I put in 200 mil just for fun to see their reactions and of course they click confirm like crazy. I click confirm as well and then they would click trade. I just then afk and them stand there like morons for a good 3 hrs. Cuz they are too greedy to close that trade box :P Its rly rly fun

I've actually run into this a couple of times in TT and FCC... "Damn I'm out of pots! Can anyone give me some?" Not, can I buy some (although that happens too, just less frequently), but rather can you give me some for free... Begging under the pretense of inaedvertent unpreparedness is still begging.

While I'm willing to believe that you simply got excited about TT/FCC and may have forgotten to stock up before the run, I find it hard to believe you also remembered to store ALL your coin in the bank before coming to the start point, so if you ask for pots in the middle of a run, at least offer to pay. Otherwise I may suggest it comes out of your split in TT (I guess that you're slowing everyone else's FCC run isn't as bad since replacing you would likely take even longer).

Mostly I just say no to random requests for compensation... if it's a friend I might make an exception. I'd much rather offer an unsolicted gift (free wine, gear I'm no longer using, a charm or esoterica, etc.) than cater to a unsolicited material request.

I've been asked several times, but never in the game. Always going down to the convenience store for a Mountain Dew and always there is someone outside saying "can I have your spare change when you come out?" The really funny part is I usually see these people dressed in nice clothes. It's almost like a guilt trip, cause I hate to see anyone suffer, but these people just don't look like they are suffering at all.

Anyways, I'd just tell them to go grind level 1 mobs with no equipment, so they have no costs.

Once some random guy saw me in my Polaris mount and told me he wanted it. I said no obviously and he said he would pay 1 million (thats about how much they were back then) and once again I said no. He called me an idiot and I told him that he might get it cheaper in Cat Shops (and this was hard to come by anyways at the time). He apologized and asked me to get him one and he added me as a friend. Once he logged out, the friendship went out the window and into the deleted pile.

I mostly get asked from low level players to give them a ride somewhere. For example, some level 20 BM in the middle of the Wraith Swamp was asking for a lift. I'm always happy to help in situations like this. b:chuckle

I have gotten asked for everything from coin, my mount, my fash, etc. I usually just ignore them, but if they persist, I blacklist. I have never given anything to strangers, but have given pots, armor & weapons to friends.

I also hate people that don't take "no" for an answer when they send random squad invites/random friend invites/random faction invites. I got so annoyed with the faction thing that I created one just to put my alts in.

One of the funniest things I saw the other day was someone in faction chat (on one of my alts) asked for 10 Gold so she could fly. A level 15 veno who obviously didn't understand coin vs. gold or the fact that she couldn't use it anyway even if she did buy it. But it's a faction with a lot of new players so instead I just tried explaining things to her.

Interesting stories coming up here... :)

I had another experience yesterday. I was grinding on Dryads and Torgirn Sentries, with a lot of other players around doing the same thing. I got a squad invite and accepted. I usually do when grinding... However the squad turns out to be me and a level 7 wizzard. I asked him what he was doing in this area at all and he said "need to level fast". Well I shrugged and let him stick around. Actually it was like having an all class pet, he followed me everywhere and just stood by while I was grinding. At least now I know that I don't want to have an all class pet. :)

What's really sad is that the level 7 would have leveled up about 10 times faster if he simply went and did his own quests. People these days...

One of the things I have noticed the few times I have given handouts to random desperados is that they never say 'thankyou'. People who authentically need assistance usually express their gratitude.

    Very true.

Some of these desperados have gotten smarter though. One couldn't get help for Aerox, gouf chief. So he faked an fb39 squad and said he needed Aerox first. Then he pretended to go to fb39 dungeon, went there, and logged out. Squad waited for 15mins, and realised it was bogus.

I've only met one beggar, whom I remember asking me for coins. I hadn't met beggars before, so I asked her why. She said she needed clothes. Then I asked her why she had to ask me for money... Then she told me nvm. I think I sounded more annoying with my questions than her with her begging. =X

Well, one will run into these anywhere >_> For example, just walking back from the game store, and I happen to run into a woman, who happened to be in the area where the drug addicts usually live, and I happened to be on my phone talking to my friend. I had no money on me whatsoever, as I had just spent it.
"Can I get some money, I just had my baby and it's cold."
It being only a couple weeks ago, it was actually rather warm out, and getting warmer at that, so I knew something wasn't right.
"I'm sorry, ma'am, I have no money on me."
"Just check your pockets, I'm sure you'll have some money on you."
This went into a cycle for at least 3-5 minutes, with me just patiently telling her I have no actual money on me. I lose my patience and decide to walk away.
"No, don't go up there, it's dangerous up there!"
I tried to hold in my laughter at that, cause I happened to live up in that direction, and knew she had to be on something. She attempts to ask me for money again, after I actually went through my pockets to show her I had nothing. she then gets angry at me for not having money and leaves me be.

Strangely, most of the moments I've been begged for stuff have been rather fail, such as after getting 1k'd out of an RB, I get begged by a low lvl cleric to carry her back to Plume.

if i dont know the person i don't ever ask for money.

but i have been known to ask for coin to place a bid on an cheap auction on am item i really need, form friends or faction.

And they have always had thier coin back within 2 days, normally the same day if its less than 500k.

my friends also know they can ask me to lend them money in return.

(though more often than not i don't have any saved, so i usually borrow more often)

only person that even asked to hold compensation eventually turned out to be a not such nice a guy as a thought.. which kinda shocked me... as he had always been so nice

    edit:

why does my lvl say 51 if this is my first post on this char, i haven't been 51 for over a week and it seems strange to to ave my lvl right on my first post for the char
