I need advice on guild leader demanding money...

Ok its like this. I was just randomly recruited to a faction and was given executor almost right away. So i went off recruiting and all that. Then a few days later 2 other ppl got executor too and i was promoted to Marshal. Now bout 1 week later the facion leader is constantly saying "we need 10 mil to get this faction to level 3 asap and that it wud be great if ye cud donate". Now the majority of faction is inactive and its only apparently the executors/marshals who are expected to donate.
I want to play this game with ne pressure on paying loads of money to level a faction. Its not my faction. I didnt start it up and I certainly am pretty poor in the game. So Im just wondering do faction leaders mostly expect ppl to donate money towards leveln it or do they pay to level it by themselves, cos 2 ppl have told me to get out of the faction Im in and that leader is taking us for a ride.
Advice please, thanks.....

Sadly . . left the faction . . b:surrender
Whats the point rush to lv3 if the faction member was quiet like graveyard ? b:bye (because random invite ?)
And is most of the member still low to mid lv ?
(happen on my faction before, in the end the first one to left is the leader with his wife)
Which why i don't like random faction invite . . b:irritated most of them not end so well.
One day someone random invite me . . i just keep quiet. Shortly she sent invite again.
Then say "If you not join lv 3 faction, you were noob." My answer is " So what if your faction a lv 3, duh i don't want to join. "
Then i blacklist her because she seem won't stop.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Sorry i speak engrish b:chuckle

The title is all I needed to see. In my opinion, any guild whose leader demands money from its members is not worth being in, regardless of the reason.0
-
it was bad the first few days in RT, but understandably so. No other server (exception: Archosaur) has any reason for asking for coin of anyone.I'm a guy, not a woman, that is all

Most of the levels are under 20 and few level 30s and bout 1 level 90 and 1 level 70 lol. The leader says that if the leader gets it to level 3 more ppl will join but its a total dead faction, and I really feel Im being taken for a ride here. Sigh if I leave, I will probably get pm abuse from the leader over it.0
-
Oh yeah - that's a big red flag.
But, having said that - I'm reminded that I need to dump a big pile of wine-mats into our guildbank sometime soon, we're running low again.0 -
ok well im gona leave it so, thanks for the advice I really appreciate it0

There is plenty of "good" guilds to join. No need to be taken for a ride by this dead horse of a guild. Play the game, have fun, and look into various guilds in our guild banter section of the forums. And "YOU" make the decision on what guild sounds best to you.
And now you sadly know why it's bad to accept a random blind invite to anything, whether it's to group or to a guild. It's just ends in a raw deal way too often than naught.
Hope you find a better place to call home. b:victory[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

actually, if anything, YOU should be getting money. heck, my faction pays me 3-5mil a week. lol0
-
My first guild was nooby like that. The leader kept asking everyone to donate, and when asked how much he had put into the guild, he replied "None." When asked why, he responded "Because cleric skills are expensive." I left instantly. You should never be forced to donate. That's not a donation, that's extortion. It should be your leader's responsibility to do it themselves, not the members. If members want to donate, that's fine, but it should never be expected.0
-
Thank you so much. I will definitely make sure I am in faction that suits me best cos my bf has high level char here and he was laughing when I told him the story and said the faction he is in wud NEVER ever demand money off anyone in there.0
-
Okay, my first point is that if you aren't happy in your faction you should be considering moving anyway. A faction that becomes a chore can quite seriously detract from the game in the long run, so if you see any red flags or get increasingly pissed off being a part of a faction that says it's probably time to leave.
However.
From your first post... I never saw you specifically quote this leader with this "demand" you say s/he dished out. I did see a sort of quote where s/he said she would appreciate donations. Now, if this is the case and that's all this leader did, then they were not demanding any coin for starters, and there is nothing wrong with asking the faction for a bit of help, for two.
If it was a case of "I would accept any donations, especially from any officers" it seems like a question for the faction to help out get to level three. Since a donation cannot be forced, after all. Officers paying before general members seems fine, too. After all, as officers you are there to help the faction grow, so it would make sense to include you in this donation business and perhaps even expect a little bit more from you if you did donate.
If it was a case of "I demand you pay to help this guild get to level 3" then the leader was never asking for a donation, she was asking for a payment. Huge difference.
Dunno, I read your little story twice over and it seems shady. You're either lying, or you're confusing the difference between "I'd appreciate a donation" and "Payment, now".[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Airyll that you for that post but I am sure you know I am not lying. Remember I did not ask to be executor but I was given executor. I have a marshal in another faction and I have not been asked to donate money towards the faction in anyway.
The reason I posed this issue here is because it is the first time I have come across this. And yes I feel it is more a demand as constantly lately we are being TOLD we need 10 miillion, so I do not appreciate being called a liar. If you want to flame war me create another thread. I asked for advice on this one not for bullies to call me a liar...0 -
"Okay, my first point is that if you aren't happy in your faction you should be considering moving anyway. "
Lol yes I was considering leaving0 -
All good posts here. Airyll I agree 100% with what you said. I don't see it as flaming in any way. As a faction leader of a strong level 3 faction I did have to request member donations for help to get us to level 3. We were growing incredibly fast and all active members. Another faction wanted to merge into us and we simply didn't have room after clearing out any and all inactives. All of our members pitched in, with me making the largest 6m to the pot, but it still was a necessity for us to ask of our members for the help. Overall, it was well worth it and most of those members are still with us and a part of a great family.
That being said, a faction leader has the primary resources for the faction and should put himself second behind his/her faction. I quite often live broke w/ some member donating to me and the faction in order for us to participate in TW and host other great events and such within the faction. Asking for donations is sometimes a necessity, but for the most part we are large enough now where it's not necessary. Overall, the problem is too many people start to play and stop by the time they hit level 30-40. They join a faction or want to be a leader, with little knowledge as what to expect from being in a faction. Any faction that offers someone with zero experience an officers position is going to fall into the dead catagory. They will recruit anyone that comes along and those people will jump ship just as quickly, or they will simply become inactive because they aren't getting anything from the game. Mostly due to the fact the faction they were in was led by more inexperienced players than themselves.
Reality is, do your research on the faction you are considering and make sure it's a solid place to be. If you aren't happy for whatever reasons. Don't stick around. Let the obvious warning signs be just that and cut your losses. A faction leader saying "we need 10m for lvl 3, your donations are appreciated" is likely something you will hear a lot from smaller unestablished factions. Sometimes those factions grow to become like Equinox or Calamity (I know for fact Equinox had to ask for donations to go to lvl 3 as i was a contributor), other times warning signs will show you that the faction just isn't worth it.
If you are on the Dreamweaver server, feel free to give myself or any of my officers a hollar. (Though we tend to recruit 70+ at this point in time)Inversion Leader

Bullying? You seriously think I came here to specifically flame you? Hate to say you're all wrong.
I did not specifically accuse you of lying. What I am saying, however, is there a difference between being asked to donate, and being told you have to pay.
If your guild leader asks you to donate once or twice then they are not demanding money. They're being like those adverts you see on television all the time, saying "Please donate to these needy children in Africa" or whatever. Yes, maybe they're being annoying but they are not in any way demanding you pay them.
You never actually say that you were demanded to pay. Anywhere. You only see your leader asked for people to donate, and seemed to expect the officers to more so than the normal members. I'm not seeing anything wrong with that.
If you think being asked to donate is the same as being demanded to pay, you have problems. Your opinion is severely clouding over your judgement based on the fact you were just "given" executor and did not ask for it (funny thing is, as a guild leader myself, I never promoted people who specifically asked for it anyway) and that your leader asked you to pay a donation if you could.
Donate = pay if you have the money to and would like to
Asked to donate = asked to pay money if you can but it isn't necessary
Demand = told to pay, you have to pay, you have no choice in the matter
See the difference? If your leader was doing the "asking to donate" business they were not demanding money, and therefore you are being misleading and confusing the meanings of words severely.
That's not bullying, my friend. That is plain and simple fact. You're either lying when you say your leader demanded anything, lying when you say they asked you to donate, or you do not understand the meaning of words and you might want to go read a dictionary. Fact. No bullying involved. =3[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
My eyes are nearly bleeding reading the last post there, though I see you have 1 person who agrees 100% with you... has this gone off topic?
I asked for advice on this not a lecture and not insinuations that I may be possibly lying. All I asked was what everyone thought of a guild leader demanding money off me. I was also TOLD to farm for mats to extend the bank and I was offered account details to be the banker!! I do not want someone else's account I think it is against PWI rules...
So I would appreciate if people do not go off topic but I got my answer and that is all I needed so thank you very much for that. I do apologize for offending anyone but that was not my intention. I merely asked for advice that's all. I did not realise I would get 1 very angry reaction.0 -
I agree with Sinead on the matter 100% why should people ask to be given money to a faction that has just starter up lol?? It's the leaders job to make sure that faction gets off on the right feet from start. The faction as she had said is full of lowbies and obviously going nowhere so why expect 10 million asap? Let it build up way more first lmao.
Airyll it was only an advice thread but it seems you're getting too uptight bout it. Are you the leader in question here?? b:chuckle0 -

LOL!!!
The fact that you think we've gone off topic when we're actually discussing the validity of your original post says everything.
Also, the fact you PM me calling me Lucinda when I've never heard of this person and haven't a clue who they are further solidifies my idea that.... you're just plain *removed* stupid.
I feel very sorry for that leader of the faction at this point, having to deal with a nutcase like you.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
i dont understand why nub guilds go to lv 3 neways thats a waste of 10m o-o[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0
-
Ok I have been called F**ckn stupid and a nutcase. Is that allowed here? Or is that now flaming??0
-
IMO you are both going a bit too far... Airyll you made several valid points concerning the difference between demanding and asking for donations, but maybe calling sinead a liar for not discerning the difference between them was too much.
And sinead, Airyll did make a good point and give some advice. Maybe if we can all forget about the accusations and realize that you're both right in leaving if the leader was demanding payment we can all get along? =3
*EDIT*
Just me 2 cents.... *puts flame shield on*0 -
I agree Byakura and apologies but I will tell you it is the last time I go asking for advice or even look at the forums if this is the lunacy that I get in return from someone full of rage. Thanks to all the good posts tho.0

Ignore Airyll, (s)he's a common troll here. All their posts are pretty much attacks to other posters.
Must be a superiority complex.
With that said, just leave guilds which you're not happy to be part of.0 -

Ok...from my own experiences, I don't believe that ASKING for donations is wrong. As long as the leader makes sure that the entire faction realizes that the donations are voluntary, it shouldn't be a problem. If you had a problem with it, you could leave, but nobody was demanding you donate. Giving positions and promotions for them is very wrong however. Also, asking people to donate to level up a dead faction? LAME...For those times when *facepalm* and *headdesk* just aren't enough, I present...*brickhead*...painful, effective, and guaranteed to make you forget why you hit yourself in the first place.

No airyll wasn't flaming you in the slightest she may have called you a few names but that can hardly constitute the word flaming.
She wasn't saying your lying there are just discrepancies in your post pointing out that what you said the guild leader said was he wanted donations if you could. And you said he demanded donations. Granted there would be more to it more then likely with what he said but Airyll was commenting on what you had said that he said. Get it?
Factions should first look at how happy their members are if you don't have a member base don't bother going up to 3 its a waste of time because you cannot delete the faction after 3. I would say if you did not want to be an officer you should have stepped down and became a member before leaving if you did want to be an officer then you should have helped the faction core grow. Happy guild members means a productive guild. Events are crucial the feeling of at home is what you want to have one that everyone fits into. If you get new members make extra sure they are comfortable. Like you would with a new puppy slowly you can just let it do its own thing but the first few weeks are crucial to determining if they are going to stay or not and become your core.
He had every right to ask you for money its not the faction leaders job to keep the faction afloat its the guilds job. The faction leader is what you call a catalyst he makes sure it happens you guys just make it happen.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

That depends on whether the faction is active enough to warrant asking for donations to level it up. If most of the people that are active are officers of some sort, then they should be concentrating more on recruiting new members, not increasing the size of a (pretty much) dead faction. For those times when *facepalm* and *headdesk* just aren't enough, I present...*brickhead*...painful, effective, and guaranteed to make you forget why you hit yourself in the first place.

Guild leader myself here... previously director of said faction (prev. leader is a RL friend of mine). Can honestly say we've never demanded anything from faction. I actually don't recall how we made it to lv2 (Did I donate, or did Ash give everything? He did have cash at some point soooooo...) but for lv3, we were asking for donations. I ended up giving around the 5mil myself, while the rest came from donations.
And now, based on own experience, if you're promoted without consent... have a talk with your leader.
Back story: Couple higher-leveled faction members and I were majorly bored. Rolled alts on the elven side. Realized it was fun to just run around and killing everything together (which we never did much past FBs, ranging from low 60's to 80+) and made plans to log on these more. So we joined another, low-leveled faction for the lulz, with a mindset of "hey, we can probably help people a bit too."
We're chatting a bit with the leader, and eventually come to say (big mistake IMO) that we're alts, and our main characters are in the same faction.
We get insta-promoted.
So they're willing to promote just everyone who have high-level chars, and not people they actually trust? "We'll see about that..." I resigned after promptly apologizing, and explaining as to why I don't want extra responsabilities. I'm just an alt anyways, nothing too serious. Leader's all like "Okay, sure, doesn't matter, just be active and all". Which we agreed to, at that point we were going to be active...
If it had stopped there, I might actually have a decently leveled archer by now.
Leader PMs me since I have a 80+ BM - he was a 75 barb. I offer the help I can, and thought it was gonna be it. But he starts asking about price checks, repeatidly, despite saying I don't know prices much. Well I seriously don't...
My squad logs off - I log off too.
Leader PMs me on my main char with more PC requests. /Facepalm
Never touched the alt again. He's currently meditating for deletion.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Due to constant PMs: I'm not German, sorry folks0
