Vivre’s bugging me to publish this, so here I go b:surrender

This video highlights on reflect grinding with a baby hercules using the Reflect skill that comes with the legendary pet.

Video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QB3BtQFXkk

Load in HD please S: if you don't have the bandwidth, expand the video, the text should be large enough to be legible.

Tl;dr: just watch the video, ignore the rest of this post.

============================================

Due to the time restriction of the song, some of my instructions were displayed for too short period of time, and some other details did not make it into the video. So in this post, I'll include a few more details.

===

Reflect grinding is useful for lower level herc-venos that may want to:

*Make some money, at lower levels, the DQ drops are kinda nice.
*Level up your herc if you’re out leveling the pet.
*General grinding if you’re out of quests to do.
*Impress friends? Or any other reason that I can’t think of.

I found reflect grinding to be extremely useful for me as I was leveling up, and now with the hyper-stone option available, it might be a cheaper alternative to oracling if you already have a herc.

I don’t suggest doing this after you hit your high 80s; chances are, by that point you would make more money by farming Twilight Temple, and if you want to level up your herc, room 4 in the cube might be faster and less stressful. The exp/spirit reward for reflect grinding is extremely low compared to doing instances and dailies.

Some numbers for those that want it:

At lv85, I grinded for an hour during 2x exp+spirit week on Cougaret Master at Arms (lv82), (that’s where the video footage came from), and I received:

-Approximately 200k exp (3%)
-Approximately 40k spirit
-60k coins (counting one or two drops)
-50 DQ 81 items (totaling 167,500 coins), 11 DQ 91 items (totaling 43,450 coins)
-Time to farm 46 high grade herbs, 12 high grade mats
- 25 Lv80 pots

Multiply/divide for normal, eso’ed, and hyper’ed amount of your choice. In my opinion, FCs and BH might be more worthwhile for your time in the high 80s.

=====
A few things to note when reflect grinding:
============================================
== Kill the mobs with the following status: ==
Increased Attack & Sacrificial Assault; having too many of these might kill your herc even while you’re healing. Just kill them to be safe.

Increased Defense & Weak; Increased defense mobs suffer less damage upon reflect, and Weak mobs does less damage, therefore reflects less damage, in both cases, spamming heal will draw more aggression than the reflect damage, after a while, they’ll attack you instead of the herc.

=============================================
Target mobs with Increased Life & Increased Magic Resistance for your AoEs; same reason as archers that target barbs for barrage in TW, you want to pick a target that will survive your attacks so you don’t have to switch targets after each AoE attack.

Wait to make sure that the mobs have less HP as the total combined damage of your AoE attacks, and don’t be hasty, better safe than sorry. Usually by the time you used up all your sparks, building enough chi for Parasitic Nova should give you enough time to grind down on the mobs HP.

=============================================
The green thorn animation in the video is the genie skill Bramble Rage an AoE magic attack. if you don’t have this skill, just grind down the mob’s HP a bit more. The skill description is located here: http://www.ecatomb.net/genieskill.php
It’s on the second page, so click on Next, and it is the first skill on the fifth row.
Keep in mind that bramble rage costs approx. 1k stamina per use (it varies by levels), don’t spend more than you can get out of the grind, unless you have plenty of chi stones to waste.

=============================================
Grind on mobs that are +/- 5 levels of you, so you can get decent drop rates. Grinding on mobs that are way above or below you will yield a lot less rewards.

This method works on any melee mobs that group aggro; some placed I’ve used:

Werewolf Spearmen (lv24) near the Mines (449, 681) – If you started out the game with a baby hercules, you can grind on these guys for exp/leveling pets in your 20s-30s.

Conquesting Dustwraith (lv47) near the FB39 entrance (115, 544) – If you’re between lv40-50, these guys give decent DQ drops as well as exp. Without 2x drops, I’ve gotten 80-120k coins/hr from the DQ drops. Be extra careful when AoE’ing, these are earth type mobs, your spells will do 20% more damage, therefore you might pull aggro more easily. If you’re at around lv40-50, chances are you can’t tank very many of these even if you have a charm. If you can afford it, I would even suggest Eso + Hyper stones.

Feliger type mobs (lv52-58) near the FB51 entrance, look around (347, 589). I got some DQ drops, not as amazing as the Dustwraiths considering these are higher level mobs, probably gotten the same or less drops. Careful that you dont aggro the ranged type mobs, as reflect does not work on them.

Keep in mind that prior to Lv59, you still have only one AoE (Noxious Cas), you’ll get access to Parasitic Nova after you do your Spiritual Cultivation 59.

[I never found mobs to reflect grind between 60-70, if someone has a good spot, leme know D: ]

Seaweed Thief (lv72) near Sanctuary (683 570), a popular zhen grinding spot, so you might get some traffic there. Drops are decent.

Seaspray Bladewolves (lv78) near Dreamweaver Port/Outskirts (645, 375), go north if you cannot get enough of them. I never gotten good drops from them; but as an interesting note, the location is heavily saturated with mats, and it is inside Safe Zone, so if you’re on a PvP enabled server, you can grind here without worrying about getting Pk’ed while you’re occupied; just note that the bladewolves are also outside of safezone, watch your step ;).

The mobs featured in the video are Cougaret Master at Arms (lv82), North West of City of the Lost, they occupy a lot of land, try going to (227, 722) and look around all directions.

I’ve also tried Cragrock Warrior (Lv85) in the Burning Plains (175, 787), drops were kind of disappointing, although I might have been too low level.

Again, you can replicate this at any location with melee mobs, but as you progress towards your high 80s, the returns are significantly diminished, so you might not want to bother with this after 70-80s.

=============================================
No idea how to transition to an ending... thanks for reading I guess, enjoy reflect grinding?

Other than that... first time making a PWI video, go easy on the flames Q_Q, if I’ve missed anything, feel free to let me know in a reply. Constructive criticisms on the video and/or guide are welcome! Also welcome any comment/questions regarding reflect grinding, as well as tips to writing guides.

I haven’t written any kind of papers in a while, so if you’re going to correct me on some grammar mistake you can just go to hell b:victory.

    It's not only a painfully slow way to grind, it's also annoying to players in the area working on the same mobs. I can grind considerably faster with non legendary pets except for cases like Unicorn Forest and [?] mobs which may be arguable.

    gonna have to agree for once. I dont do it anymore, and when i did i tried to make it faster than the norm. Either way, i could have done better grinding 1vs1.

    about video, i did that too when i was 8x. its easy as a herc veno to learn those tricks just in a few pulls. as you can see you have same problems i have. if mobs run too much they go after you or reset, herc have to stay and fight more than just a few hits in the beginning.
    is nice as experience but i found out that 1v1 grinding on the same mobs is faster. yea you read it right, was faster than aoe grind. aoe grind as veno just sux

    Hmm, I've never really timed myself grinding 1v1 vs AoE grinding when I was lower level, is 1v1 grinding also faster in earlier levels? I found that before I hit the 60s/70s, this was rather rewarding and it *seemed* faster to me. Haha, maybe I was having too much fun to notice if 1v1 grinding was faster.

    1v1 with a phoenix/other DD pet on lower hp mobs is far more efficient, and makes more money. at your level, look even at those array sentries west i think of the platform of OHT. theyre far better experience, money, and have like 13k hp but give a ton of exp.

    these ? mobs can be a venos paradise.

    Ty for video, I was plaining to do a similar video but I've no time in these days.

    I've a bm friend, that loves to go and kill himself, so when he was in holidays at my house, he tried to grind with my veno, and make her die a lot. (Q_Q Eaeeee)
    So I had to think an easy way to explain him how dont steal aggro off herc.

    And I've found it. :D

    Some venos dont know the trick, so, now I explain it for all.
    Herc (and all pets) has double aggro. That means:
    if pet make 5k dmges, u must make 11k damages to steal aggro.
    And a good herc (in my opinion) has bash skill. (lvl5 at lvl80,pls.)
    (Pounce is useless, roar too and too long cd, flesh ream too long cd, and good only as dd skill)
    Bash is the best pet's aggro skill.

    The trick to dont steal aggro in seconds (about): bash on one mob, and when bash's cd is finished, go and bash on another mob to aggro it. This means about every 8-10 sec u can get a mob.
    The trick in dmgs: let the herc hit about 1/3 of max mob's hp.

    The other infos to dont steal aggro off herc are good explained by Vixre.

    Gl and Have fun grinding with herc.

    ps: HappyBunny is LA, so she can run between mobs and dont get too much dmges...for me, pure magic, geared as magic tank, one mob lvl 85 hit me for about 1/6 of my hp.
    So, dont try what she does at home :P

    pps: gz HappyBunny on lvl 85 ^^

    This is a very nice guide indeed. Yesterday I aoe grinded on cougarets for a few hours, and ended up gaining 7% from it with no eso scrolls/ hyper stones, and i only did 2 JQs the whole time.

    I agree with this, the only reason I did the reflect grind session at lv85 was to make a video guide, I don't think this works as you progress to your 70s/80s, and I left a little note explaining instances/dailies would level you at a faster rate, and room 4 in cube would probably be a faster pet grind as well. Still, I think for the lower level range herc venos, it's a fun way to grind up and get some stuff in return.

    Eh, aoe grinding makes a nice occasional change.

    The earliest I found it useful was the shrunchkin warriors - though since there's archers mixed in with them you need to be a bit careful.

    at high level its useless in my opinion because it take ages for a herc to finish a mob just by reflect and your attack power increase so you cant even attact without taking aggro.

    but i think its a good training to control pet, time heal ...
