This thread was sort of uncalled for in my opinion. Sort of makes you look worse than the one your trying to call out.

There's a major discrepancy over how much MP it takes to maintain SoV. So here's a high level example.

With 10,000 soulforce, SoV costs -40mp per hit. (It's not 4%, its 0.4% of the user's soulforce). The damage reflected (8% of soulforce) would equal 800. So with 10k soulforce, SoV will steal 40mp and reflect 800 damage.

I bring this up because people seem to be unable to count and for some reason think SoV will drain over 500 mp per hit. Trust me, if the drain was that high, we wouldn't even use it on ourselves. Even a few Psychics I've met have this same strange delusion, and makes me understand why so many Psychic players have no idea how the class works. They don't pay attention.

Keep the accurate numbers in mind when deciding if SoV is worth it to you or not. It should always be worth it to a Psy because that's a tiny mp loss compared to our large MP pool. Even at lower levels, the caster's soulforce will be too low to really cause any issues. For melee classes, feel free to debate however.

That being said, if your tank packs potions, charms, whatever, SoV isn't gonna hurt him all that much. After I explain the numbers to people at least 80% of the tanks I meet change their mind about it. Some still refuse, but that is their choice.

However, I always ask the tank first. If he knows the numbers and doesn't want it, that is indeed his choice. I'll keep it on myself in that case. Giving it to a tank who does not want it, is indeed very fail on the Psy.

I only use sov by request.

I ask first if they want it because some still like the buff, even though the mp drain is there (albeit a lot smaller than you may think--mp pots ftw). If they want it, I give it to them. If they don't, well...they don't.
