I debated posting this here or on the cleric board and decided here because of course clerics would try to recruit more since healing characters are needed...

Anyway, I know Clerics become decent damage dealers as levels go on, but I am curious to know which you guys think is better for ROAMING PvP: Wizards or Clerics (and why please).

My wizard is pure int and my Cleric is LA (I do not intend to change these builds).

If you do not intend to change your cleric LA build id say full int wiz is the way to go.

Full int cleric vs full int wizard is all about your playstyle. With self buffs both wizard and cleric have about the same damage (wiz getting higher damage skills and cleric getting m.att. buff). Cleric has some defensive moves and a bunch of heals which will make you practically unkillable, and wizard has sutra and undine, which will transform you into a walking nuclear bomb.

Wizards easily out DD a cleric late game. Clerics are nice because if they are built correctly, (arcane vit builds unless they have AMAZING gear) they are like tanks. They take a LOT to take down. The only advantage for "ROAMING PvP" would be a sleep and paralyze which would help from people getting away. Wizards can take down just about any class, although we are limited by our control skills (although demon does get a few more).

Side note, clerics don't do the same damage as a wizard (assuming equivalent gear/weapon). LA clerics SUCK.

They do actually. Well, they have the same base magic damage anyway. Clerics and wizards get the same exact attributes, wizards just get higher damaging skills than clerics for the most part (except for the standard ones such as pyrogram and gush/plume shot and cyclone)

They don't actually. Having the same "base magic damage" is not the same as having the same damage.

First of all, a cleric's role in this game is to stay alive to heal/buff their team, so they need to focus on survivability. This usually means putting points in vit (unless they have some ridiculous cash shopped gears) and their gear should be more hp/pdef oriented rather than damage. For instance, while most wizards go for the HH 90 glaive because it does more damage than any other 9x weapon (excluding event stuff), most clerics will go for a weapon with -chan or hp mods on it.

Now there are clerics that want to be metal mages.. and will gear/stat themselves similar to how a mage should. First of all they get *****, they don't have stone barrier or distance shrink to help them get out of trouble, so they are kinda out of luck when they get stunned or focused on. They might actually be viable in this game if they had more atk skills, and maybe undine, or sutra.. or really just some advantage over a mage, but they just end up being wannabe mages. At a metal mages best, they can match a mage's weakest skills (like gush = cyclone), but when you add in the skills that make a mage.. (undine sutra ults etc), or even skills like Sandstorm/Glacial snare etc.. clerics just fall short.

Don't take me wrong, clerics are extremely useful in group pvp and the like, but only when they are doing their job. A cleric that is healing/buffing/purifying etc a squad is amazing and extremely rare to find.. but a cleric that just DD's needs to be replaced by a mage.

I know wizards do more damage. But with the same exact build and equipment, a wizard and cleric will have the same base magic damage, and their gush and cyclone would do the same damage on something with equal metal and water resistance. That's all I'm saying.

I don't care for "full attack clerics", and I'm not supporting them. I'm just pointing out some math here. Obviously once you throw in that most clerics aren't a pure magic build, that wizards have undine, and much higher damaging skills such as sandstorm, our ultimates, etc, I know wizards do more damage.
