Soul of Retaliation question.

My question is if anyone has actually tried leveling Soul of Retaliation?
And if so do you notice a difference in reflected damage?

Or is both the tooltip AND the spell broken atm?

I suppose I could buy a few ranks and test this myself but that would spoil my "lazy" reputation!

Thx fellow psychics, and lemme know what ya think!

I used this all the time in PQ. I would throw it on before the boss would aoe. His aoe would hit me at 1 and I would not be silenced or have my chan time increased.

But this is the only time I have used it.

Oh yes the skill has many uses as is. (Use it all the time)

But my question is if the higher ranks improve it at all?

Ths website says it does: http://www.ecatomb.net/pwi/skillpwi.php
    (Listed under Soul of Retaliation)

But was wondering if the skill did not work as stated in newer ranks or if this is a bug pwi still needs to fix in there text.

Ok so I lvld this skill from 1 to 2. I tested it before when it was lvl 1 on a mob. I lvld it to lvl 2 on the same mob again. Yes, the damage reflection did go up.

EDIT - I tested more, lvl'd it to 3. The description did change. It also does more dmg:

    LVL 2 Description
    LVL 2 DMG

    LVL 3 Description
    LVL 3 DMG

There is a noticeable change in the reflection =D

Yes I have leveled my retaliation to 9 as I use it all the time, except when fighting sins (for that I use stunning). I can say for sure that the damage absorption goes up, making me survive a hit from a bm with +10 refine with minimal dmge.

But as for the damage returned, that's something Im not very sure about because I did a quick test on some mobs and for some it does indeed return a huge amount of dmge, but for some not so much. So Im still wondering myself as to how that works. As for pvp and duels, I get the same results, depending on the attack (I did not have the time to test this fully and with every skill) sometimes I would return big damage, sometimes very miniscule especially against Melee HA character types. Against arcanes, depending on which attack they use I could return a good amount of dmge; but most of the time I noticed that the reflected damage is miniscule eventhough the status effect reflects back as it should.

Agreed 100%. SoR is very useful. The damage absorb is enough to really save your butt sometimes vs melee classes. Best to use on BMs, as Sel stated. Red cloud sprint is annoying xD

I will enjoy getting this then, but I have a question. When I hit lvl 59 which of the 59 skills do I choose?
I know I'm not gonna have enough sp as it is so.....
    Red Tide and Psy Will
    Earth Vector and Tide Spirit
    SoR and Earth Vector
and so on and so on

Earth vector is alot more useful, as it is an aoe stun. So that would be my recommendation.

Other sidenote: In my experience, the status reflect only occurs when the skill that hit you also dealt damage. I've never seen it reflect a pure status skill. If I get put to sleep with it on the caster isn't asleep, and SoR is still active. Same thing happens if I'm stunned by a non-damaging effect. Anyone else notice this? That honestly makes SoR a lot less useful for me. I've been reduced to only using it when I suspect that I'd need the damage reduction. Otherwise I stick to Soul of Stunning...

but it also useful vs wiz when they start with seal -> Undine strike because seal dont cancel soul of retaliation and undine strike can be reflected bk to caster.

    as for 59 skill
earth vector and psychic will are crucial so you have them both max if you can, or focus on earth vector first then psychic will.

Agreed. Though I personally prefer to use SoS against a Wiz who seals first. That way once they use that second skill they stun themselves and it gives you time to get free. Then I simply SB them switch to White voodoo and wait for them to kill themselves. There are other strategies of course, and it depends on the player. But this is my most common one for Wiz.

Yeah it all comes down to tactics vs. prediction.

If you just start off with SoR already on, the Wiz can do a basic nuke first, then try to sleep, and hit you with whatever while SoR is down.

Of course, if you see this change in tactics coming, you can go for a quick stun with Earth Vector and mess up that plan.

Another good thing to note (not necessarily for vs. Wiz, but in general), is the fact that SoR and SoST both channel and cast so fast that you can wait for an opening and use the appropriate one; provided that you have good reflexes and can read your opponent.

Random sidenote: Since we have two Soul skills that start with S... (Soul of Stunning, and Soul of Silence) I vote the abbreviation for them gets specified to SoST (STun) and SoSI (SIlence). b:chuckle
