Lost City - Nix Over Herc?

I rerolled a 9x mage from Raging Tide to play a veno on Lost City because I love the fact that you can elevate the char to a whole nother level from pure micro alone (lolpets) and I'm fascinated by this server so I'm committed to long-term play.

But I have a question because while I'm pvp savvy and know a fair bit about this game (capable of learning everything at least, but thats a diff story), I need to ask some experienced venos if I should get a herc first or a nix and please consider these circumstances because they're the only reason why I'm asking because I know the general consenus is herc first farm nix later:

*LC is a pvp server, while I can always be smart about where I'm grinding it'd prob be nice to have a nix for obvious reasons while I'm still climbing levels (people test you less, so a nix and a 3.0 flyer.. I'd be set). I'm going to pvp a lot here too.
*I like grinding and have a feeling I'd be able to knock out dq drops real fast if I went nix first/ never really been familiar with TT/cared much about it on other classes too (guess that'll change though, but regardless if I have herc(?)(aka still can do certain modes without herc?)
*Recent 2x drops have caused an over-abundance of all TT mats up to 90 so if I went herc I don't think it'd be profitable, or at least as profitable(?) - But this is weighing against the fact that LC is an old server so I'm not sure if once it's been long enough (since 2x has gone away) tt mats up to and before 90 will go up in value or remain real cheap
*Could care less about tanking fbs, bhs, and are most likely going to run frostcovereds with the same 4-5 friends (ones a barb) so don't think it'd be that bad if I were herc-less

So.. yeah, any feedback is appreciated. And one more thing while I was a 9x wiz in RT it wasn't because I cash-shopped (lolhypers) a lot, so please also keep in mind whichever I get first It'll be a long while before I get the other (hence why I'm fussed about going herc first than not being able to enjoy the play-style I'm into from bein equipped with nix) because I only drop like 10-20$ a month if that.

:edit: I'm at 3k sof/feathers now and have about 4mill with stuff to sell that'd get me another easy 10-12 mill. I plan on leveling slow(er) in favor of making money too so I'm assuming I'll get one by 7xish but then past that as I stated earlier prob would be a while before the other. Just givin as much info as possible in case any of it alters any potential advice

    I would say that given your circumstances a Nix is the best way to go. Is certainly what your post implies you'd be more comfortable with. Do keep a sawfly leveled while you make up your mind.

    hmmm... yeah. and while I obviously want nix first as you said my post implies (and its best to do what you want), I am asking because I would put aside that desire in favor of a herc *IF*, given these circumstances, there is a really legitimate reason like that I'd be gimping myself considerably by not having the herc

    I guess the answer I'm looking for is guna have to come from a 9x veno who doesn't have a herc but instead a glacial walker, magmite, or whatever you use -so..... how bad(?) is it not having one?

    uh well at 83 i can tank bh 59 bosses with my glacial walker if that helps. it's almost like a 30 level difference between the bosses you can tank or not tank unlike the herc.

    I come from a guild which is made of about ~95% venos. Of these, I'm one of the only ones that opted to get a herc first. Despite double drops having increased the amount of TT mats being farmed, I'm actually still selling mats for the same price that I was before the sale.

    So in terms of it not being as profitable, I disagree.

    One of my friends got a nix and while she agrees that it's certainly helpful PvP wise, it doesn't reduces the chances of you being pked. Heck, many of my friends in RPK guilds specifically go after venos because they are packing a nix.

    At level 78, I am capable of farming FB79 and have got quite luck recently; having recieved 2 misty mold drops from three runs. Of course, if you have no interest in farming dungeons, then the Nix would probably suit you better.

    yeah I'm not concerned at all with people coming at me since I'm guna be food to all the 9xs on this server for a while. could care less about getting killed I embrace it and just stay white, most the people who kill me just die to bigger fish while I lol. but with a nix while I'm gettin up in levels, I'd actually be able to fight in some scenarios b:victory

    however what I was looking for was the bit about profit. like I said I come from RT so when I see certain tt mats for 100k+- I'm like b:shocked.

    so for me its the argument of: advantage of having a nix on a pvp server + fast grinding/dq money VS. getting a herc and competing in tt sales on a really old server that is fresh off 2x

    I dunno, I gota find out more about how profitable a herc would be for me at around 70 on this server. because as I said I'd hate to be stuck with a herc at 7x with dissapointing/overrated income knowing a nix is "even further" away

    Well, at 70 you won't be able to make that much money with herc, but this changes a lot at around 85+ when you can start farming card bosses in FB89. TT is overrated for solo farming anyway imo.

    Whichever pet you'll chose first if fine, but i'd really recommed having both by level 80-85 or so. Neither will disappoint in their role. Seeing how you're on a PvP server, you might even want to get a Nix, then a Herc and then another Nix (yes, 2 Nixes)

    Get the herc first. LC pking is a someone 20-30 levels higher than you jumping on you out of nowhere and they almost always do it while you're attacking a mob. Either that or they'll just gank you. At your level, there isn't much you can do to fight back due to lack of skills availability. It doesn't help even with the nix out. You're still going to get a free trip back to town.
