to see if your internet is decent.

To play PWI you will need to have a good ping (lower is better. 250ping and below is playable for PWI). And a 0% packet loss.

Internet connection is basically the same requirements for all multiplayer games. The only thing that changes is system requirements.

My score was 178 ping (I live in Australia and testing on a san francisco server cause thats where sanctuary server is). 1-2 jitter. 0 packet loss.

SO basically, if you connection is better than anyone elses on this thread, you can play PWI =)(

While standing in the middle of West Archosaur bandwidth ranged about 1 - 1.5 KB (bytes not bits) per second. But entering such a place took many times more for a moment as there are hundreds of characters to load (and lots of details such as names, type of characters, mode, custom appearance, equipment, etc).

Although 56 K dial-up would work, it's highly recommended for broadband equiv of any speed. If you share the connection, the more the merrier again.

    I usually have a 1-2% loss, long as it's low, it's fine

Seriously, if you want to play the game decently you'll need a minimum of a 1.5mb broadband connection like DSL. You'll also need a decent computer. I am still amazed at the number of people that think they can play on cheap laptops, and complain when stuff doesn't work out.

Let's see someone beat this: 1336 ping, 153 Jitter, 0 packet loss.

To the OP, as long as you don't have dial-up, you should have a good internet speed for perfect world. I'd worry more about your system's ability to play it.

EDIT: It's even worse now. 2058 ping, 382 jitter, 0 packet loss. East Coast, GA.

38% packet loss, 116 ms ping, 192 ms jitter. Grade: F

Second time around: 20% packet loss, 248 ms ping, 396 ms jitter. Grade: F

It's no wonder I can't play this game at my apartment. Or do anything concerning the internet. So much for the free internet they provide over here. I've gone ahead and ordered AT&T DSL. I'll be able to play and do homework here come Wednesday. Thanks y'all! :)

PW runs fine on low settings with with a geforce 2 TI (tryied and tested) and thats back from late 2000. If you want to run on full settings nothing more then a 7600 would be needed (still a pretty damn old card). Im using 260 GTX at the moment so i cant really tell you which card is good for high details

As for the speed, you can run this game off 128k/bit ISDN easily. (downloading would required a fast connection though as the game client is pretty big)

So for that quote, aslong as your laptop is newer then 2001, you are most likely able to play Pw

Hmm... So your saying that a ''low speed internet'' wouldn't affect the overall in game FPS? vs a ''High speed one'' example 128k/bit vs 10mb line?. because I've heard people saying that the internet speed affects your in game FPS..not sure if this is true.

dunno 'bout anyone else, but i've experienced graphical lag due to crappy internet service... however that's only been the case for this game

on the flip side, i've also had graphical lag cause server lag as well... course that one is easy to explain (gfx lag is gfx taking up too much sys resources, so sys resources needed for net connection suffers)

yeah..this is somewhat true actually..i have a similar problem with this game and been trying to scratch my head finding solution for a over a month now..regarding low fps.You can see my PC specs on this thread http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=580261 and i still get low fps..so yeah the internet speed affecting the fps could be true here..lol

well i can tell you from my own personal experiences... west archo and TW cause massive memory leakage problems... most specifically, if you enter a "zone" that is packed with shytetons of other characters

for example, with all gfx set to minimum, and all UI settings off... while standing in west archo the "elementclient.exe" system process (ie: the pwi game) will spike to anywhere from 500k-800k on memory usage

compare that to firefox, which takes anywhere from 40k-80k regardless of how much i have running in it

Your net speed has nothing to do with frame rate. Frame rate is how fast your computer can render the game (CPU, Ram, GPU and hard drive all working together). The game generally uses 1-2kb/s download and upload so 128k/bit (12kbs) is way more then enough.

Sure 128 isnt recommended and very few companys still do dual channel 64k/bit ISDN (128k/bit). Populated areas should be able to get 2m/bit atleast.

Hello. I have an issue that is more or less related to this discussion, so I’ll post my concern here.
I am thinking on getting a mobile internet device, so I could play anywhere on my laptop.
I understand from this thread that I can get away with a “low” speed device, but I have another problem: the traffic for such a device is limited, so I wanted to know if it’s a viable option to use it, or if I, just running PW, could go past the traffic limit and get an HUGE bill to pay.
So my question is: How much traffic (upload/download) does PW uses per set amount of time? Is there any way I can check the traffic I am having while playing PW?
    Thanks in advance.

Hmm.. maybe lets say that's true, then what could be causing me to get FPS as low as 10 at West Archosaur or Territory Wars? It's usually 15 or 17 but it drops to that low depending and here are my Computer specs

Note: all the settings / effects are turn down to LOW / OFF and i run window mode @ 1024x768

    :OS:Windows XP 64 bit Service pack 1
    CPU: Intel(R) Core 2 Quad Q8400@2.66Ghz
    8 GB RAM
    Video Card: GeForce GTX 295
    Desktop running at: 1280x1024 (32bit) (75Hz)
LG wide screen LCD 22'' monitor

    that's my desktop PC.

You can even read my thread here on this forum : http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=580261

I've tried literally every method possible trying to fix that fps lag i have and the last thing coming in my mind is possibly the internet speed which is stopping to get that fps, since i use a wireless connection with a 3mb line and the speed fluctuates. I don't know, some people say it does affect and depends on how fast is your internet is and some don't. but then what could be possibly stopping me to get a decent FPS at such a good rig?b:surrender

20 FPS isn't bad for West Arch. In fact that's pretty good for some even with best performance on.

It is true that server connectivity does not directly affect FPS, because the connection is only responsible for the delivery of the 'packets' which tells who's where, who's doing what, etc. While overall system performance (particularly the CPU) can affect network performance as well as FPS, poor connections to the server doesn't affect FPS
