Currently I've been doing the pure magic build - 4 mag, 1 vit. It doesn't seem to be enough because I seem to be dying awfully easily. I know psys can't take many hits, but I'd like to last a teensy bit longer.

My suggestion is to wear equipment with +Hp and +pdef bonuses. Also changing your play style to where you kite and keep your distance from mobs is a good idea.
The build I use is pure magic, no points added to vit and I do fine. I always try to stay behind tank classes in an instance and minimize taking as much aggro as possible. At my lower levels, I used to die a good many times at BH 39 too, but that's because I wasn't playing my character well and charging head on. After I changed my pve play style to DD/support, I did very well.

You don't take many hits at lower levels at higher levels you take alot of hits to go down.I'm a pure mag build myself 43 str 401 mag at my level.I was doing tournament some day ago and got really unlucky since i was fighting me vs 2 bms(sword and fist-slow chan and fast hits)deadly combo for me and I actually got killed.Point is the fight lasted about 3 mins anyway and they were hitting on me like crazy. You can't imagine the amount of hits it took to kill me(was charmed and had some apo but when you have 3.8k hp with sage buff it ain't that much).

I'm guessing you're speaking from a PvE perspective? Throw on black voodoo and start nuking mobs from the farthest range possible.

Also, learn to love skills that slow movement speed.b:chuckle

Do you mean 1 STR 4 MAG? Because if it is that you should be fine. Lower levels should usualy follow 1 STR 9 MAG. With Black Voodoo you will usualy 2-3 shot mobs.

Love your slowing skills and knockbacks.

Still not enough? Pump some vit. Don't be like all the other pure mag tools and be deathly afraid to add a little vit, it doesn't hurt all that much. As long as you don't add an insane amount (over 100)

I've only added 2 vit and rarely do I ever get touched in PvE. Almost never got touched in earlier levels except from ranged, or increased magic resistance, or increased life or a few earth mobs.

you will regretting it late game

    when you have decent refines/gems

the added vit will make a very small difference to your survability but a noticable difference to your damage

psychics dont need to add vit for pve

i think playstyle is the issue

I'm sorry. Next time, I'll type the entire contents of the post into the topic title. My sincerest apologies.

I've recently figured out how to be a support DD, although it kind of gets frustrating during mobs if I attack one and three more come lumbering after me.
A few hits from two monsters is enough to bring me down if I don't spam pots.

id have to agree with the poster who said its a playstyle issue. if youre playing it right, you dont get hit. if youre playing it wrong, you die. theres not much of an in-between for normal pve. dungeons are exceptions to this.

yea so far on my psych i have yet to die in a BH because i pulled agroo or when i was just killing mobs that barely hit me even ranged mobs. its all play style. Also I only soc garnet gems because i know the majority of mobs at my lvl do physical dmg and I only have phys def ornaments. It makes much bigger difference than a lot of ppl think. And it makes an even bigger difference at end game

I'm just at level 11 on my psy and I have yet to die so I'm assuming I'm playing right. I think I may do the 1 str + 4 mag so i dont mess myself up
