Self Education

Yes.. I said SELF Education.

We all know that the Education system in the united states is a joke. High school graduates not able to find the united states on a globe. People thinking 30 feet is a mile. etc etc...

So I am curious about people here.

What subjects interest you enough that you study and learn them yourself? Not through some school somewhere?

I'll start:

Astronomy, Geology, Computers, Coding (Python, C++, and others), Web Design, Astrology, Tarot Reading, Languages (Trying to learn Gaelic and Quinya Elvish [do some research before you laugh at the elvish bit, J.R.R. Tolkien was a gifted linguist and his languages that he created for his middle earth books are surprisingly complete and linguists have said would be a viable workable language]), Marine Biology, and a few others here and there as they take my interest.

So what do YOU study on your own?

    err....well technically we don't use schools so does that mean everything me learn counts?
    although me....me having a bit of a hard time figuring out what counts as a "job/profession" and what be a "side thing"
    what if we don't get paid in cloth, paper, metals, or other material objects for either? ._.'

    me are currently specializing in microbiological science. (well it be more like genetic modification except that me just happen to prefer employing the use of microbes.)
    coupled with a bit of knowledge of quantum mechanics (teh source of me noob power)

    me has been required to learn material chemistry & physics of electromagnetism due to recent events though. (mainly the hamster-gerbil war game.)

    err...sowwy about the wacky weather problems...but me power armor (just an idea me got while expanding on what me developed during the hamster-gerbil war game.)project got suspended and reclassified as a "doomsday weapon".
    ._.'
    so shouldn't really happen again.
    and me had just found a way to alter it so that it would still function without disintegrating itself.....well would've been more of a power...force field? then me would has to rename it and stuff.

    Also me happen to observe humans and see how they behave.
    me have been trying for years to understand stuff like monies, greed, hate (not just hate but like the random hate err "extreme dislike" some people have to complete strangers).

    Hmm..
    Photoshop, Guitar...(well not really. I used to get taught but now i self-teach when im bored).

    CBB learning a language. I mean yeah theres books/internet etc but to learn a language effectively you have to actually TALK to someone who is fluent with it. There half a billion weaboos out there who say they know how to speak japanese when they only know the words "kitsune/desu/baka" and watch a lot of anime but can they really speak ***?

    EDIT: WTF? ja.p is censored?lol..

    I'm pretty much self taught in most of the Adobe suite and web design in general. I'm currently in high school and I'm in web design 4 now... and very disappointed because I'm literally being taught nothing. I'm the only person in that course and the teacher just has me update the school website. lol
    I'm also a little self taught in Spanish (Rosetta Stone ftw) because my past Spanish teachers were completely incompetent. RS was the only way I could pass the classes. :|

    self taught photoshop, and the side of incorperating that into webpages, can't really write code that well so I am hesitant to call myself a web designer as such.

    I enjoy reading about crime investigation and crimminal physcology. Very interesting stuff why people do the things they do!

    I self taught myself to edit videos using Sony Vegas and I am still learning a lot of tricks using it. I also pretty much self taught myself to read using only a bit of the things they taught us in school since they moved too slow for me and I was the only one who could read without stuttering every word.

    I'm currently teaching myself how to draw by looking at some tuts and applying the things I see. I've been doing this since I was in the 7th grade.

    What I'm studying currently is the various religions. More specifically the various religions under the umbrella term Paganism.

    Programming and nearly anything else to do with software development, music (keyboard & computer music to be precise), most other computer-related skills, numerous other things here and there and a bit of Japanese. In fact I put very little non-rudimentary skills I've been taught at school or college to use on a daily basis.

    The difference is I'm in the UK not the US.

    Philosophy isn't boring. It can be exceptionally interesting AND entertaining.

    I've taught myself Adobe Premier, PowerDirector, and enough history to write several books...I've also mastered my own personal brand of sarcasm.

    In no particular order:

    - Psychology;
    - Sociology, human behavior;
    - General, specific and sub- cultures (reasons why you'll see me posting in a lot of more... social/behavioral topics)
    - Computers in general (building mostly)
    - Web design and other internet-related things (tempted to learn PHP now)
    - 3D animation;
    - Forensics;

    Basics I've learned in school but continuing on my own:

    - Journalism and mass medias in general (especially problematics created by these);
    - Photo, video and record-editing, including radiobroadcasting;
    - Languages, etimology, etc. (Gets very handy in MMOs, lol)
