Aria's Genie Guide (and your other 2 wishes are?)
1.1 Introduction
First off is the introductory questions aka, What are genies and How do I get them? To answer the first question genies are a fairy-like companion to when leveled and given chi stones allow for the use of various abilities a player would otherwise not have access to. To answer the 2nd question you must speak with the watcher of earth npc in your respective city.
1.2 Genie Stats
Picture of Stat Menu
Now that those questions have been answered its time to get down to getting your genie customized. First we'll take a look at the four main genie stats as they work differently than player stats. As your genie levels its available stat points will increase by 1 and for every 10 levels you may acquire anywhere from 1-10 "lucky points" to add to your stat total. As of the last patch lucky points have the added effect of determining the amount of available spell slots your genie possesses.
STR: Affects the damage and effect of some genie skills
VIT: Determines maxium energy of genie (the yellow bar), each point of vit increases this bar by 1.
DEX: Affects the damage and effect of some genie skills
MAG: Determines the genie's energy recover rate; every 50 MAG points will increase the recover rate by 1/Sec.
Different skills have different bonuses depending on your choice of skills (ie. Thunderstorm's damage is increased by added dex, the recovery of essence penetration gets a bonus by str, etc.)
My suggestion is to figure out what skills you will be using BEFORE applying stats to your genie so as to maximize the effectiveness of those skills.
The other bar you will have to pay attention to is that of your genie's stamina, while not technically a stat it is something needing to be payed attention to. Think of this as the genie's food, each skill used will deplete from this gauge. To refill this gauge you will require chi stones much the same as when repairing the acceleration on a flying mount. With your genie equipped and chi stones in your inventory (perfect stones, yuyang stones, etc.) simply drag them to your equipped genie and it will fill the gauge. Higher quality stones are capable of refilling more. In order to acquire these stones one suggestion is to decompose unused gear at a tailor or blacksmith. (Note: I am new to this approach so I am still attempting to figure decomposition out myself)
1.3 Affinity
Picture of Affinity Menu
First of all before proceeding I also wish to recommend figuring out which skills you wish to use before applying your affinity. If not you may end up **** yourself in the long run. The best way to do this is by walking to the watcher of earth and selecting learn genie skills. By dragging your genie from your inventory to the learn genie window a list of skills will pop up. Look through the list of skills to find some that seem to fit your taste. Once you've found a couple pay close attention to the values to the right of each skill, this is the skill's affinity requirement. (Fire FR, Metal MT, Wood WD, Water WT, and Earth ER affinities) Think of these as a requirement for learning the skill.
Example:
Tree of Protection WD: 3 WT: 4
In this example you will require 3 points in wood affinity and 4 levels into water affinity. As a result the minimum you'll probably be able to get this spell is genie level 35 when your affinity level is at least at level 7.
Now reequip your genie and reaccess the stat menu, from this menu press the Affinity button upon the bottom of the screen. You will access a star-like menu with several numbers. Depending upon your genie's level your affinity level will be different. For every 5 levels your genie achieves its affinity level increases by 1 and as a result the number of allocable points increases as well.
In order to add points into your affinity click the icon appropriate to the element you wish to add to, a confirmation box will appear. After confirming you will see a red hash mark appear in the line along the icon similar to the screenshot. You will also see a number appear in the appropriate row in the bottom left. The number in the bottom right indicates the number of remaining allocable affinity points you posses.
1.4 Leveling up your Genie
As of the patch on 9/14/09 genies now acquire 10% of the exp you do as you level (this exp gain is in addition to what you get, the genie does not take xp away from each kill/quest). However there are a few other ways to go about leveling it. Enter the Stat menu once again (or x out of the affinity menu if you are still there) and click on the button labeled EXP Infuse. A small menu should pop up with several check marks and boxes. The first things are the 3 check boxes marked:
Infuse with EXP
Infuse with EXP Cubes
Infuse with Spirit
Once one of these is selected you will see a number appear next to available below the exp bar within the menu. That is the available amount of exp or spirit you have (Note: you cannot give more exp than you have acquired on your current level, so you cannot delvl by feeding your genie.) On the bottom you will see your genie's level, your level, and the "Infuse Ratio" this refers to the tradeoff between 1 point of your exp/spirit 1 point of your genie's exp. The ratio will improve the closer you are in level to your genie so it is suggested you attempt to keep your genie leveled. If you wish to fasttrack your genie's levels or have fallen behind you can choose to feed it part of your gained exp or spirit. This can be done by holding down on the infuse button and watching the bar fill up as your available points decrease. The change will not take place however until you click done so you still have the option to cancel. If however you just want to level it you can click the Level up button to focus all of your available spirit or exp (depending on which you have selected) into the bar, once clicked there is no way to get it back so be careful.
1.5 Genie Skills
Before I continue I'd like to point out that I have experience with only very few skills. I will attempt to give a few suggestions however I do suggest the use of the watcher of earth npc to read all of the skills in their exact context and what they do. As of the patch on 9/15 several skills were changed and updated. The best place to look is within the Affinity menu of your genie. Once there click on skill inquiry and it will allow you to mouse over each skill. In this section I will only cover what skills I have had personal experience with.
Tree of Protection WD: 3 WT: 4 (Level 10 Ending Stats)
Energy: 115
Stamina: 200
Instant
Cooldown: 60 Seconds
Requisite Class: All
Summons a tree of protection. Increases max HP by 30% for 5 seconds. Restores 20% of your max HP every 3 seconds for 6 seconds. This skill will interrupt the effect of Cinnabar Amulet.
Strength: Every 2 genie strength points increases the max HP more by 1%. Every 60 STR increases the duration time by 1 second.
Dexterity: Every 8 genie dexterity increases the health recovery effect by 1%.
Notes on this skill: Extremely useful as a last ditch hp gain if you're under 1/2hp. One of my current 4 skills.
Extreme Poison WD: 4 (Level 10 Ending Stats)
Range 25 meters
Energy 50
Stamina 600
Instant
Cooldown 1 Second
Requisite Class: All
Injects the target with a weakening poison. For 6.0 seconds, increases damage received by the target by 20%.
Dexterity: Every 10 Genie dexterity points increases the effect time by 1 sec.
Notes on this skill: Extremely useful for classes with additional weakening methods such as venomancers with amplify damage since it stacks with several weakening skills. Favorite combo is Amplify damage -> Advanced spark eruption -> Extreme Poison -> venomous scarab.
Thunderstorm FR: 7 (Level 10 Ending Stats)
Range 25 meters
Energy 102
Stamina 1137
Instant
Cooldown 15 seconds
Requisite Class: All
Calls forth a thunderstorm to attack the target. Deals 728.0 metal damage. Ground contact and near distance will increase the skill power.
Dexterity: Every genie dexterity point increases the damage by 2%
Causes triple damage to targets on the ground.
Causes double damage to very close targets.
Notes on the skill: A great melee buster for mages. If you can get a melee down while he's chasing you and he happens to close distance, crack this off and he may think twice if he doesn't have much magic defense.
Essence Penetration WD: 1 WT: 1 ER: 1 (Level 10 Ending Stats)
Energy 97
Stamina 320
Instant
Cooldown 60 seconds
Requisite Class: All
Heals yourself, recovers 800 health instantly.
Strength: Every genie strength point increases the recovery amount by 2%.
Notes on this skill: From what I've seen a solid emergency hp gain skill.
Hollow Fist WD: 4 Earth: 4 (Summary from skill inquiry)
Deals physical and metal damage to target. Reduce target's physical defense and cause it to bleed.
Requisite Class: Venomancer
Available only on the ground
Notes on this skill: I was sorely disappointed with it, honestly it had alot of potential however I would not recommend it over other skills to possibly be used.
Holy Path MT: 2 WD: 2 ER: 2 (Summary from skill inquiry)
Increase the move speed of yourself to the max.
Notes on this skill: Extremely useful for getting out of a close quarter pvp battle or to get away from a bad pve situation. Or even in some cases bringing a fight into close quarter if the effect is desired.
1.6 Conclusion
The purpose of this guide is to show you how to build your genie to how YOU want. There are alot of skills, so many more than I covered in the skill section. If you have any further advice feel free to share it and I will attempt to add it to the guide, I will give credit to those who do so. If you try skills you like or don't like feel free to tell me. In closing however I'd like to go back over a few quick tips.
1. Before assigning Stats or Affinity, have a clear spell path in mind
2. Try to keep your genie's Blue stamina bar at least partially full at all times to avoid running out when you really need it.
3. Avoid using your spirit to level your genie, you may need it later
4. You are no longer required to give xp/spirit to your genie, it will gain xp as you fight.
5. Do not feel bound to the spells I have listed here, feel free to experiment.

Very good guide...I was a little confused on how to lvl my genie and whatnot. I say sticky it! b:cuteb:victory0
-
You are off to a Great Start...
Thank You!
Anyone know of a table posted online yet with the NEW Affinity requirements for each skill yet?
I want to create something that helps me identify which skills go together based on Affinity types w/o having to paw through the Skill chart in-game.
THXZetarana - Arcane Veno
Nephandus - Arcane Wizard
Faction: Nocturne0 -
I could be wrong however I do not believe many of the skill affinity requirements changed other than tree of protection and essence penetration. Also thank you for the sticky recommendation, tells me its helping ppl.0

I guess I'll go through 'em and jot them all down, no biggie. I also think this should be made a Sticky.Zetarana - Arcane Veno
Nephandus - Arcane Wizard
Faction: Nocturne0 -
When you get all of those affinities written down if you'd be so kind as to share it here I'd love to add that information. I would give you credit for it of course.0
-
Has anyone tried any of the other skills since the update and want me to add your impressions of them? I'll give anyone credit that helps me add to the guide.0

My genie is giving me fits... Now at 28/40 lucky points, 40 level, about 300k stamina , I am level 55 Blademaster. Infliction Genie.
No matter what I do, can't seem to get genie to learn skills. Try to move her to the learn skills area/genie box, is greyed out, can not place it there. Has Venom Stinger initial skill. Can't think of anything else to try, even tried opening the unlearn skills area, placing it there, won't accept the genie in the box there either.
Also, have never had a genie task come up.
Do I need to get some sort of storage item or something?0
