When pride gets in the way

So last night, I was doing the chain quest in Tideborn. I got up to killing the “Traitor” or boss (lvl 60). Looking at its HP, I knew I needed help since I’m a mere lvl 42 Veno. I then partied with a cleric who was also on the same quest. She was a lvl 57 I believe.

Anyway, the 3 others around were probably in a party already so they ignored us. They were pretty high lvl because they slaughtered the boss within a matter of seconds before we got a chance to. I didn’t want to beg for their help. It's not what I do. I'm used to soloing most of the time. Furthermore, I grew impatient when we had to wait for the boss to respawn and didn't want them attacking it again. So when it appeared, I made a quick judgment to have my golem tank. It shouldn’t be too bad I thought to myself.

I threw my pet in and had it attacking. Ironwood scarab. Venemous scarab.
****!!! My pet was already running out of HP. It then became: Heal. Venemous scarab. Heal. Venemous scarab, heal. Heal.

The group of 3 people surrounded me and watched on in amusement as the boss’s health meter ticked slowly. I fought to keep my pet alive. Then out of who-knows-where, the cleric begins shooting her cute little arrows at the boss. She was behind me. Literally! At this point, I was dying (from the humor) yet still more focused on finishing the job. We both could've fleed by flying any time we wanted to.

At last...it took years, but we did it. We TOOK him down!! I mean, the old heads still called us noobs and the wizard was rolling on the floor. I’m just glad I didn’t take on more than I could chew. Then I’d really be a loser.

    Good for you!

You teamed up and took down a boss, without resorting to crushing it with high level help.

    Nice one.

Ignore stupid high level wizard mockings.

yesh ignore the "high level" wizard he just be jealous. XD (srsly wizards at lower levels can't tank anything except magic mobs/boss so he should at least has some respect of a low level veno taking on a level 60 mini boss.)

You didn't kill the wrong Traitor, did ya? I soloed the one in the north island at around your level.

    Congrats, though.

Gratz to the OP. You came, you saw, you conquered.

Keep at it you're doing great. Not every boss needs a higher level character's help.

A lot of players grow huge E-egos once they hit higher levels and forget they were newbies once too.
They forget that there's a level cap in the game and once they hit that ever elusive 105, there's nothing they can do but just hang around or quit while the rest of the players in the server catches up.
    Just ignore them.

Cool story! I'm happy for ya. It's good to see some people still don't beg higher leveled characters for help.

I'm just a little confused on how pride got in the way...

Bring along enough friends to push my buttons.

I don't mind the game talk. I can't take it personally since it's not reflective of anything profound about me. Yeah, I'm new to the game. There are still things I don't know. I might be a "noob." What more can I say? That I have a life and they don't while I'm playing the same game they are? That's silly.

I will say that was one of many instances where I had a lot of fun. The ego and poking makes the game that more competitive.

But you're also right. What may discourage new players are the intimidating higher levels. Though for the record, PWI has less antagonistic players compared to the games I have played. They would harass and chase you if picked up their coins (either by accident or intentionally hee) whereas here, some people don't even bother picking up their drops.

And I kind of do like the idea that the levels stop at 105 so it's not impossible for me to catch up.
She let her pride get in the way of saving her time.

That or risk sabotaging the quest----being unthoughtful about the rest of the party members

So I have a question. I got all 7 of the tokens. It seems however, that I need to be at least a lvl 51 to complete the quest?

Yup. I got the tokens at level 48 with my cleric, so I had to gain a few levels until I could continue the quest too. Oh, and I soloed that boss with him too. b:victory

My psychic had the tideborn traitor girl chasing her around the valley while my assassin questing companion whittled away at her (and the assassin ended up pulling aggro, dying, towning, and getting back before I finished her off. Or maybe we had to repeat for the assassin; I had to keep the water attacks up to keep her at a safe distance.)
