Aerogear: buy big, or buy low and upgrade?

I want to buy a flyer from the Boutique and don't care much about the looks. However, I'm trying to figure out if it is more cost effective to buy the cheapest flyer and upgrade to 3.0m/s with widgets, or just buy a flyer that are already at 3.0m/s. Thoughts?

Buy the one you like the most and go from there.

That makes sense for someone who is concerned about they way they look. However, he's looking at a purely cost perspective. Hence, if he buys the cheapest flyer and upgrade it, will he be paying more or less than the high end flyers?

    Edited after more research=

It depends on if you're looking to buy with in game coins to buy gold or to trade for it. Only because things sound more expensive with the in game coin. If you were to use USD to buy zen to transfer as gold, you could buy the $5 mount. You would need 240 widgets to completely upgrade the mount. So. 90 silver per 10 widgets=you'd be looking at about 21 gold plus some silver for the widgets. Or paying per widget 24 gold. So $26 for a maxed minimum starting speed mount. With the trade prices right now, would be about 10.4mil if you were to trade for 400k per gold which is about the center of the trade number in Lost City at the moment. I figure its about the average everywhere at the moment.

So. I have no opinion on what is best here. I would personally rather just choose one I liked. But there's the info for you.

To have a full speed mount, I'd expect to pay the equivalent of at least $25 unless you buy one that COSTS $25, then look at about $8 more to upgrade it fully. So best bet in that case would be to get one of the ones they have that actually already exceed the 3.00 speed for a little more money if its available to you.

If you were to use USD to buy zen to transfer as gold, you could buy the $5 mount. You would need 80 widgets to completely upgrade the mount. So. 90 silver per 10 widgets=you'd be looking at about 7 gold plus some silver for the widgets. Or paying per widget 8 gold. So $13 for a maxed minimum starting speed mount. With the trade prices right now, would be about 5.2mil if you were to trade for 400k per gold which is about the center of the trade number in Lost City at the moment. You need a different amount of wind widgets for every 0.5 interval.

    2ms - 2.5ms = 80 wind widgets.
    2.5ms - 3ms = 80 wind widgets.
    thats 160 already.

Fixed. Thanks for picking that out for me. I realized that shortly after I wrote all of that out. I only upgraded my Drake and wasn't thinking too clear on it all. b:cute

For the most part, it's more cost effective zhen-wise to buy the cheapest slowest one available and upgrade it.

    $5 for the mount

$1.80 worth of widgets to get first upgrade
    $5.40 for the second
    $7.20 for the third
    $7.20 for the fourth

    = $26.60

Which I believe is cheaper than any +3.0 speed flying mounts (please correct me if I am wrong). I think the TB one is like $25, but their wings can't be upgraded yet anyway, so it's irrelevant.

(You can't charge exactly $26.60, you would have to do $30 I believe, but the other $3.40 can be spent on other things)

The only flying mount that costs less and is 3.0 is Wildfire tideborn wings. All of the others are $30+.

The math's been done before, right here on this forum. It's cheaper to just buy the cheapest flyer and then buy widgets to upgrade it, provided that the final speed will be same as the fancier flyers.

I know this wouldn't make a lot of sense in real life, but it does in PWI.

This actually depends on the price of gold.

The price of gold at its high end we've seen so far; around 500k that same 30.00 would net you= 15 million. You can now buy most of the fancier 3.2 aerogears for that or less.

If gold is at a much lower price.. say 350k per gold = 10mil 500k. However; the price of things aren't going down like the same iridescence wings are still around 15 mil.. they were around that when gold was 500k as well.

Now as far as the widgeting goes, if you buy an aerogear out of the game itself you can usually buy something someone has already widgeted for less than widgeting it yourself.

For instance the same above might be 26.60 if you widget it, BUT if someone else is selling one already widgeted it would likely be more like 18.00. Shop around, don't be in a hurry to buy. You will find a good deal.

For instance, plumed embrace wings seem to go for around 7mil on HT. To buy them right now out of the boutique with in game currency converted to gold would be over 11 million. Selling that same 30 gold would net you more if you sold the gold in the auction house and then bought the wings in the game.

Anyway, I hope this helps a little. Just shop around!
