How do I know if a monster is aggro?

I am utterly confused. In every other MMORPG I have played, aggressive mobs that will attack when I get too close have their names in red. How do I know if a mob is aggro in PWI? Don't be a smartarse and tell me it's aggro if it attacks me. How do I tell if it's aggro by looking?

Experience =P And usually anything over 30 will agro... better safe than sorry....
Also if they look big and mean.... they will probably agro...0 -

I think he is right, everything over lv30 will aggro on u if you get to close...tho idk anymore, they changed sumthing for the lower levels....
But i can assure you, everything aggro's over lv60 just by looking itb:shockedb:dirty0 -
So there is no way to visually know if a mob is aggro? That is dumb, I'll just say it. This is a MMORPG, isn't it, or is it **** n slash Diablo 2?0

LoL, what level are you even?
They made early levels easy, thus some mobs do not aggro.
But you can be sure that after few levels every mob will 100% aggro when you come close. So why should they make it visible when you know it will attack you anyway???b:dirty0 -

Why would they make aggro mobs' names a different color, for example, to show they're aggressive? Because the low level mobs are NOT aggro and the higher level ones ARE aggro. There is a difference, so there should be a difference in-game.
Besides that, I am low level, you freaks that make fun of someone lower level than your character or someone that might be <oh my gosh> new to the freaking game. Thank you for being so immature and combative in a simple forum topic from a new player in the BEGINNER'S GUIDE.0 -

PWi is not some other MMO, here mobs aggro when you walk by.
Making the change just for few levels that you pass by in few days, does not make any meaningful sense.
Like said, after level 30 everything will aggro no exception.dustyballz wrote: »Besides that, I am low level, you freaks that make fun of someone lower level than your character or someone that might be <oh my gosh> new to the freaking game. Or you are just not happy with the answer provided?
Any ways ty for making me giggle b:victoryb:dirty0 -
Um - no on all counts.
Most games, this one included, show a monsters relative level compared to you by its colour. A deep red monster is high level, a light green one is low.
I agree that PWI is unusual in that even incredibly low level trash mobs will still aggro on you.
On the second part: Nope! Shrunchkin archers for example do not aggro on you, although beserkers do - and will bring any archers near them with them when they do.
The only way to learn that sort of thing is by playing, although http://www.pwdatabase.com/pwi/ will tell you about whether things aggro in and of themselves (and from how far away)
Edit: I do agree that after level 30 or so very few things are peaceful. It's always kinda brings a tear to my eye when you get a quest to kill them.
Oh! Forgot the other canonical example - foxwing supremes, near lost and etherblade (not the ones near tusk) are peaceful and they're level 60.0 -

Nelae - Heavens Tear wrote: »They attacked me on my wq....so.....lol
the ones other than Etherblade, Lost and plume are aggro
back to business;)
90% of the mobs in game are aggro, some more than others
even @99 you do get aggro from mobs lv20 (or even lower, before they change the aggro of mobs with the expansion)
some mobs will stalk you for a short time, some for a very long time
If you read the lore of the game, you would know that all 3 races (4 now) must fight against the wraith, and the whole world been taken over by the wraiths... so .. its safer to assume that all the mobs are aggro ..and some players too .I look at all the trollers, and Pvpers.. and know they wouldnt have lasted 30sec on Camelot.
Rules= Know your enemy (players and NPCs) gives you more chances to survive.0 -
@Dusty
Hmm as others have said most mobs above 30 are aggro and its always better to be safe than sorry. So treat everything as an aggro mob.
As for being a MMO, am pretty sure PW qualifies for it since there are people playing from all over the world b:laugh. A MMO is not defined how aggro mechanics work. Compared to the other MMOs I've played PW is relatively simple and the monster AI is pretty simple and straightforward.
The mobs are colored depending on the risk it poses to your character. Not always true when it comes to the Elite mobs. Elite mobs/bosses usually have a gold deco around the name. Although the color/level might indicate that these are not much of a risk to you, they usually hit hard and can defeat you pretty easily unless youre much higher than them.0 -

I've noticed with the latest update that monsters you're hunting will sometimes aggro you.
Mostly if you stay in the same place where you killed the previous one, the re-spawn tries to get you.

That has started happening to me sometimes if I heal immediately after the fight.0 -

Yeah - it's really obvious that mobs don't completely reset before the re-appear, sometimes they still have the debuff/DOT effects running on them.0 -

I think they even changed the aggro mechanics. My lvl 3X archer isn't aggroing the mobs in hidden orchid-the way I remember it, they were aggro king when I went through them with my barb. Now I can take 1v1 without third, fourth and fifth mob in.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I don't think they've changed the mechanics - but they've certainly reclassified a bunch of the monsters.
Pyrogolth for example still aggro the way they always did, but heartless wolves are peaceful now.0 -

The treeline wolfkins are no longer aggro. (I don't remember heartless being aggro either.) The Krimson Tigera by Wellspring are no longer aggro, either, nor the Charing Sables in the same area (I'm sure the Krimsons were, and pretty sure the Charings were) but the Sable Elders a little further toward Gate of Antiquity are still aggro. So are the scorpions by Wellspring, not to mention the Darkbreeds outside the Den of Rabid Wolves.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Eh? No, the treeline (blue ones) will still aggro you. Don't chase you very far, but they never did. One of the three wolves there used to aggro and no-longer does, though. Thought it was the heartless, but seems not.
The charings certainly used to be.0 -
The treelines didn't aggro me once while I was putting my tidies through their early twenties.
The venomous ghouls outside Archosaur, and the reverexes and centipedes on Flag Hill, are others that are no longer aggro.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Agree on the centipedes. the ghouls will aggro though - you have to be right up their noses and stay there for a while, though.
Reverexes I can't say I've been close enough to. The miniboss one that wanders by the river does.0 -
to sum it up a bit:
STAGE 1: TARGET the MOB u DONT KNOW and WAIT for it to be AWAY from OTHER MOBS
-)JUST BY LOOKING AT IT U CANT TELL IF ITS AGGRESSIVE OR NOT until u've met that SAME kind of mob, so THINK AS ALL 30+ MOBS ARE AGGRESSIVE
(experience will tell who is aggro tho, or check monster by monster in pwdatabase)
-)ELITE MOBS WILL ALWAYS AGGRO, elite mobs are recognizable by the SHAPE DIFFERENCE on HEALT BAR
(elite mobs has longer range than normal mobs, into FB there are elite mobs their aggro range is almost unlimitedb:shocked)
STAGE 2: CHECK the RANGE AGGRO by WALKING AROUND IT
-)TEST THE REAL EFFECT OF PASSING UNDER ITS NOSE, register result
(the mob with same name act all the same way, there are few exception: like starting cities' foxwing supreme arent aggressive)
-)DROP THE TARGET by clicking ESC, then RUN TOWARD the UNKNOW MOB
(once in range, if the MOBS LIFE BAR pops up that means IT AGGROED YOU, now it chases you or attack with range spell)
STAGE 3: RESULT SHOWS and ull CLASSIFY MOB under AGGRESSIVE or NOT
-)IF MOB IS AGGRESSIVE, IT TARGETS YOU, AND START ATTACK, RANGE OR MELEE
(this is bad, means u cant rush on mob and it will slow ur killing since u will pay attention not to grab 2 or more mob while fighting another)
-)IF MOB IS NOT AGGRESSIVE, TARGET DOESNT POP UP and MOB WONT ATTACK YOU, UNTIL U ATTACK IT
(this is awesome but rare, means u can get into a swarm of mobs and still be able to kill em 1by1...as long as u dont use AOE u wont need to worry for the mob nearby you)
this is pretty much all u have to know when fighting UNKNOW MOBS in NEW AREAS...
take it slow, and when ur used to them, find the best way to kill em all b:victory[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

You're missing a big chunk of mobs which won't aggro you on their own initiative, but will aggro you if you attack another monster of the same (or similar) type.
Going with the example I am most familiar with, shrunchkins.
Wander right up to the shrunchkin archers, notice that they are completely peaceful. Avoid going anywhere nea rth ebeserkers for now though....
Go near a shrunchkin beserker, and watch all the nearby archers start to draw their bows and fire at you (and all the nearby beserkers charge at you)
What fun!0 -

yep, thats is another way of aggro...
i didnt mentioned it cuz it works differently from other situation,
is like the mob that after getting beated a bit, cries for help from his fellow mobs of the same race, and AOE aggro all the surrounding enemy
but for the AGGRO identification, i stated that u have to fight just 1 mob that is alone...
there are things that cant be learn just by reading/watching some vid and u have to make ur own experience in game...
this game isnt rocket science in the end...just have fun b:bye[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

In my past experiences through pwi, theres one thing I notice when a mob aggro me. Their panels or w.e you call it (the thing appears wen you click on the mob w/ HP and names and evasion% ect..) automaticlly appears on your screen to tell that something is attkin. It happens to me everytime wen I was runnin around on my mount. It's one of the way to kno wen mob aggro you. I dont think it works wen your attkin a mob and another aggro you.[SIGPIC]http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll268/Vi3tSoul93/MKSiggieBlue.png[/SIGPIC]

To use some abbreviations... The OP is just QQ that PWI isn't an exact clone of other MMO's, IMO that's what makes it fun. Variety, the spice of life...0
-
I don't know exactly, but I've noticed that cats and snakes often are aggro.0
