Fox Skills

Ok I am a new veno and admittedly I am somewhat confused...some guides are in favour of the foxform skills while others dismiss them

Personally, I am an arcane veno and seldom to never use my foxform but some of the skills do look rather tempting like Amplify Damage [While in fox form, curse the target and make it take 20% more damage for 6.5 seconds.], Leech [While in Fox Form, strike the enemy with a leech attack, inflicting base physical damage plus 909.8. Has an 80% chance to steal 240 HP.] and many others ...

What's your opinion? I am also a PVE player so I guess Crush Vigor would be somewhat useless...or is it? b:surrender

Waiting on your replies

b:thanks

Amp damage is WONDERFUL. It's basically the only reason I ever visit foxform (well, and maybe if I do something daft and something starts hitting me physical)

Drop into fox, cast *something* (and yeah, either leech or consume spirit are good choices - I tend to use foxy wallop though) then amp damage, revert human and chain off as many spells as I can whilst amp is active.

And yep, crush vigor is duff. There's a sage version which ROCKS, but the basic version is almost compeltely pointless in PVE.

If a veno doesn't use amp damage (at least on bosses) then they're not really very good at their job.

All skills are useful at higher levels, even if some are more useful than others.

The most important ones to get:
    Fox Form
    Amplify Damage
    Purge

    Also nice to get:
    Leech
    Mist
    Wallop
    Soul Degen

Eventualy you will get all the others.
Too often we loose sight of life's simple pleasures. Remember, when someone annoys you, it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, BUT, it only takes 4 muscles to extend your arm and slap that mother#$@%#^! upside the head.

Leech I consider a must. Metabolic Boost I mostly use with Soul Transfusion for MP. Leech keeps me DD'ing while I recover HP. The Sage form always recovers 600 HP which works great for a Pure Mag (low HP, high def).

Amp as mentioned is a must mostly for squads. It's something people should expect the veno to have.

Stunning Blow works to halt mobs in place that would normally kite from a stun like Lucky Scarab. In FF, Harpies can be lured to the ground and kept there long enough to kill with this.

Soul Degeneration seems practically useless until you get the sage version.

Befuddling Mist is useful on melee mobs that take a long time to kill. It's not very effective if Herc is tanking, but gives you more DD time with Nix by cutting down the amount of healing you have to do.

Myriad Rainbow is nice because it's AoE and works on the Crystal in TW.

Purge is something you'll be expected to have for rare occasion where a boss buffs itself, and works great in TW.

Melee Master of course is great. -Sage provides 200% dmg increase.

Even pure mag can do some decent DD in Fox Form. I have Saqe Fox Wallop and rarely use it.

"Sage version increases Chi lost to 15 per hit."

    - maybe you meant demon?

"Demon version has a 50% chance to gain one Spark."

No, I mean the pre-demon/sage stuff. Being only level 79, after all.

"Target will lose a vigor point for every attack it takes"

So very very not useful at all, in PVE.

And yeah, fuddle is nice - forgot that one. It's a good way to get killed at low levels though, easy to forget it has a small aoe. Stunning blow.... costs a spark. If it weren't for that I'd be wholly behind it. Even with a veno's chi generation though, I can't see myself spending spirit on it.

Max amp and your bh/TT squads will love you. Purge is also very useful for pvp (absolute must if you plan to do tw). Other than that, leech is the only other foxform skill that will be marginally useful until you switch over to light/heavy armor at the later lvls

First of all, thanks for the replies. I think I will go for amplify damage and let the rest for when I have the spirit to level them...

Does that mean it is necessary for an arcane veno to switch to light or heavy? and if so how do you do that when all the str you have is 5 (same for dex) (caster class 9-1 every 2 levels)? b:question b:bye

It's not necessary to switch over to LA/HA as a veno, its just that many venos do tend to change builds towards endgame in order to have an edge in pvp. Unless you uber refine your anniversary pack gear, odds are you wont be a brilliant success in pvp as a full arcane because of your severely gimped pdef and hp.

And the build for LA or HA is not a caster class, meaning you have to invest points in str and dex as well. But again, dont worry about this til your higher leveled and start spending alot of time in pvp. Back on topic tho, good choice maxing amp b:bye
