Archers, aggro, and you

Yes, I'm posting this from my 'Sin lol.

My one observation having leveled an archer to 75 is that they need some way (other than death) to drop a little of the ungodly aggro you build against bosses even using simple auto attacks. Fix that and I can live with the rest lol

    You can... stop attacking.

I know, it's apparently very difficult. But you can do it. You hit Esc or step to the side or click to the side or do SOMETHING to stop attacking. Then you wait a bit. And then your aggro-over-time is reduced.

It's an amazing yet simple technique that very few archers utilize. Sort of like drinking water to quench your thirst, which gets overlooked, b/c everybody prefers juice or tea or coffee or lattes or something like that.

Yeah...I think the point was missed with most of the posts...sure I'm pretty well aware I can stand around with my thumb up my tail waiting for aggro to go away so I can attack again, but it isn't terribly efficient is it? Nor is the "one...mississippi...shoot...two...mississippi...shoot..." option. I was looking for something along the lines of abilities I've seen in other mmo's for archer type classes to dump a little threat in a hurry...just seems horridly inefficient to have a great dps class that you're unable to safely do great dps with...

    but...back to the flaming...

Hit Winged Shell once you take aggro, it will automatically stop your attack and give you some phys defense, meanwhile you will lose aggro and after some seconds you can switch weapon with less damage and resume your dps more safely.
But if archer can tank that boss(in case there's a cleric in your squad) - let archer do it, that way boss will die much faster and no sudden aggro switching/fail barb and etc.

How hard is it to just STOP ATTACKING?

I usually dont attack until the boss has 70% health.

And blessing, and that will usually sort your problem.

Seriously, you don't HAVE to attack at full power. I've had such a hard time explaining that to players even weaker than me, spamming skills and sparking in full gear... completely ignoring my repeated "take off ring/blessing" comments, spamming chat with "I'm too strong D:" "I hit too hard, I can't help it!!"

I actually believe, deep down it's a matter of vain "pride". Players are actually proud they hit hard enough to rob agro. If the cleric successfully saves them, they'll hold that agro at all costs and try to become tank. Some players will actually have this strange idea that if they aren't robbing agro everyone will see them as weak, so taking off rings is unthinkable. Unbelievable yes, but you'd be surprised. :/

Yes, it is pride, and no, it's not that deep.

Lol I like how everyone who speaks out is an "emo kid" - I won't even honor that with any more of a response. Perhaps flames was a tad strong but honestly, when the quality of the responses is in a nutshell "you're dumb stop attacking..." you've missed the point and simply tossed out an insulting answer to an honest question. I rarely if ever get to actually go all out on my archer, and 9/10 times simply autoattack through boss fights, and still can get aggro rather often...too often for comfort and this was the purpose for the post originally. Yes, there does exist the issue with barbs wanting to be dps chars and not having enough in pure tanking skills, but even so the aggro for archers (and perhaps wizards as well) might still be in need of help with a "drop" ability that could be used every so often.

I wont disagree with the above statement about players who pride themselves in taking aggro - I've seen it far too often myself, but that's not at all the point I was trying to address. Even holding back, and waiting a while to start your dps, you still have a really high chance of aggroing, and once you do yes you can go "oh **** winged shell" and stop attacks, which I've done quite often (as luck would have it I havent been posting this from an idiotic "lemme do max dps with no penalty" perspective) - but it just seemed that another option might be in order to allow archers a little more of a margin is all...even if it were along the lines of an ability we had in Lineage 2 called ultimate evasion which gave you a super dodge buff similar to what 'sins now have which let you give the tank a chance to take back aggro a little more safely.

At level 79, you can get a skill called Blessing of the Condor which multiplies your Evasion by 1000 for 6 seconds.

Unfortunately, it has no effect against magic monsters.

There's also Winged Shell, which will stop 1-2 hits, and Wings of Grace, which will stop 1. Then you can single-spark to stop another one. If your tank STILL hasn't gotten aggro back under control... b:surrender
