What's in a name?

How do you percieve characters with real life names, original names and the ever timeless "Marysue125xxx76"? On many different mmo's I've seen the latter scorned and branded as "n00bish" while the formers are seen as trophies and generally awsome. Do you think it's a common bias in the RP community? Do you find yourself doing the same?

How did you come by your name?

    But as to how i look at other people.... if their name is stupid.... i don't like them =P Simple.

    Just look at 80% of Venomancer names in perfect world.

    After youve done that, every time you hear or see the words "fox" and "kitsune" youll start screaming in agony.

    I've always felt that the name you chose for a character is one of the most important things they have upon creation. While I don't outright scorn people with names that make use of a few too many xX's or that try and mimic famous people or things, or any other kinds of generic banalities that show no creativity, I do wish those people would give some thought to the name. Seriously people, just give it a few minutes to really think about your character and give him/her a real name.

    Making up names ftw. They sound nice, and because you made them up, no one else has them. I mostly use Andracil and Amiris :3

    I just started playing, but I like naming my characters after fictional ones. I'm sad (but not surprised) that the name Drizzt is taken. Ahaha~ Youzen's my favorite character in a manga/anime called Houshin Engi.

    As for others naming theirs...I think it's like that in almost any online community (Gaia, Yahoo RP, and even livejournal) where the username is judged. Sure, those xxx's and ooo's can get annoying but really...it's not THAT bothersome. I think some folks just need to chill and enjoy the game they're playing rather than RAAAAAAGE AT HOW xxXGIRLXxx's NAME HURTS THEIR EYES. 8|

    mhmm it really is based on the situation

    For me my names have to be "correct."
    I have OCD so it just has to be "right."

    I try to not be biased by
    names for most of the time.'
    But there are situations where
    I just feel like screaming
    Names are something you can't change
    and you have to take
    the time to think about it.

    So yeah. I'm usually not
    bothered by a name
    unless it reminds me of
    something I don't want to
    think about.

    I actually have come to really like names that are regular words and not even names.

    I myself have a real name, but it's a guy's name...a guy PMed me once because I was a girl character with his rl name. b:chuckle I bet he'll see this because he's a fellow forum rat at times. <3 Aadi b:cute

    I name my char's after drugs/medicines There was only one exception to this, My BM /Miho/ ^-^ b:chuckle

    I like my character names, I don't know why I name them that way trought b:cute



    This one was just and idea I liked , even trought later I think I shoud change it ._.
