Interesting enough so I decided to try it out and see if it really does work.

According to this thread, Surtr has said that moving files isn't against the TOS only directly editing the files is a bannable offence. So in the case you've shown it should be perfectly fine.

We can clarify this for you:

The post regarding moving .ini files was taken out of context. Surtr stated that moving .ini files was okay provided that the presets you are moving are intended to be used on all races.

The race specific hair styles should not be used for other races, because they are meant to be used on a specific one. Modifying files to put the hair style for a different race on your character is NOT allowed, and it is against the terms of service.

this REALLY sucks. my hair was ruined with the rising tide patch and i was SO excited about this, now my dreams have been shot to ****.

and you know what not for nothing.. that thread with sutr, the girl was asking about JUST THIS. getting a hairstyle that was race exclusive onto her cleric. (probably the same style that is on this forum avatar. it was available for humans and venos but not for clerics)

she said this: "the hairstyle I used to my character disappeared from the list? My old one still have that hairstyle, but it is not available now for new players. Is there a way to get it back to my options?

Note: it is also not in any other "pre made" character styles available for the class I like to play (cleric)."

read past the slightly broken english and to the point. "the hairstyle is no longer available, can i **** around to get it back"

and the answer she was given was "yea dont worry about it, youre fine"

and yea re-reading that thread that people keep quoting surtr from...

the girl was completely explicit. she detailed the same exact method that susy did in the other thread that was locked. i dont see how the response could have been taken out of context.

darth panda seemed to say "no" surtr seemed to say yes. she was VERY specific in stating several times that the hairstyle she wants was not available to the race/class she wanted to play.

how the hell does it go from being ok in august to bannable in december? just because tideborn are new and "need race specific hairstyles" to be "special"? um no. they dont.

and then theres all of us who lost our hairstyles from the patch. we're basically screwed. the hair i have now is hideous, and the only other style that is actually in the game that i like happens to be a tideborn hairstyle.

    and i cant have it.

so i cant stand to look at my character.

i am really fuming now with this. this is a gross, egregious insult to the player base.

In August, there were no Tideborn and therefore no races with specific styles. In December, the Tideborn were released and with them race specific hairstyles. The rules were then edited in order to accommodate this, which they are allowed to do as stated in the Terms of Service, section 17, part C which reads as follows:
    (c) PWE has the right at any time with or without reason to change and/or eliminate any aspect(s) of the Services as it sees fit in its sole discretion.

    *adjusts glasses*

I suppose that should clear up any confusion as to why this has taken effect now.

listen, dont get all smarty pants and condescending on me, ok? i've spent literally dozens of hours in the customize menus for all classes, and i know for a fact that relying on game mechanics alone, you could not get at least 1 style on an elf (the style thats on my forum avatar), there are probably a few others that are just slipping my mind.

whether THAT was a bug or error of some sort or a "race specific style" i am not sure. nonetheless the only way to do it was an ini edit or doing the folders thing, which falls into the same exact category as this, editing the ini for a hairstyle you cannot get via game mechanics.

it's grabbing at straws and splitting hairs (no pun intended).

so what, if that original girl with her cleric with veno hair were to raise the same question the answer would be no?

I would love to be able to have and use Tideborn hair. But is not worth getting banned for. Wait and see what they do to fix our hair. I know what you mean i had pink rag on hair. I got scroll and chaned to TB hair. But the second eatwithspoon said it was bannable i paid for another scroll and changed it to something else. I dont like any of the hair but i would like bad hair more than lose what i have worked for in game.

There are some race specific hairstyles before tideborn: I can remember human female have the Chun-Li hairstyle and a second ponytail, and human males have the headband and the bandana. Can't remember any for veno or winged elves.

According to the official answer then I understand when you say modifying files it means by any way: either tampering directly the .ini file (wich I think is a direct violation of copyright) or by using a legal way such the ingame character customization (wich I think it'll be some sort of exploiting a game feature, and that is against ToS).

So, as long the .ini file movement does not involve moving race-specific crarcteristics (in this case, hairstyles) from one race/class to another it fine, right?

As I stated elsewhere, there is some urgency to fix this hair thing.

    1. Waiting too long will cause the new chars to choose from hairstyles that might be "fixed" in a later patch. So chances are that the crying will start over again if the fix is made later on.

    2. It's already stated several times that the hairstyle thing will be fixed and that the devs are working on it

    3. It has also been stated that whoever uses a make-over scroll to fix it by themselves now, will not be compensated.

    4. Looking for other solutions seems to be against the ToS

So... that leaves us with waiting for the patch that will fix all of this, for which I refer to the first of my worries. I was hoping the last patch would have fixed it, but unfortunately not. The longer the devs wait with making attempts to fix this, the more likely it will fail.

*keeps fingers crossed waiting for next patch to start playing cleric again*
