Ingame Sound Issue

So my problem doesn't make the game unplayable only unbearable.

When I am playing the game I get a get a sound bug that causes the sound to go into my right speaker/earphone and it sounds as if that game turns the volume all the way up. If I tab out or adjust the volume in game it goes away for a few seconds/mutes then after a moment it comes right back at full blast.

Now I understand this may have been caused by my audio card so before posting this thread I deleted my drivers, reinstalled then ran a repair just in case. I also tested a few others games. This is the only game the gives me a audio migraine.

If anyone has any suggestions or resolutions for my issue I would love to hear about it.

EDIT: It also seems to be only the foot falls of my character that are turned up to ear shattering volumes.

When I changed to Windows 7 my Sound Blaster Audigy totally lost the sound of footsteps. Quite the reverse problem you had.
Then I noticed that in instances, sounds of spells and combat in general would just stop one by one until I was fighting in silence. That happened a bit under Vista too but nowhere near as bad as this.

PWI has no setting for audio so we don't know how many sounds channels it wants to use. My Audigy only has 32 so I started to suspect it was just running out of channels to use and not re-using them.

I went out and bought an XI FI Xtreme Gamer. Cheap, nowhere near the top of the range, but it DOES support more channels, so hopefully it might help here.

And yes, sound has been annoying me in PWI since I started playing. None of my other games have the slightest problem. But because we don't really know how PWI does sound we can only guess.

Good luck figuring out the cause.

I tried dissecting the folders for PWI to find the sound effects but it appears that the sounds are pulled straight off the server. If this is true, then perhaps streaming sfx are the issue.

As a x developer for [another game] I suggest that PWI release a patch that allows players to have sfx in the pwi folder.

I also have another theory. Perhaps the sfx are in a [unique to pwi] file type. During game play the sounds are played from compression. For this to happen they would be played through the games audio player. That could be an issue with older or less powerful audio cards.

Still, I see a solution that PWI could resolve without having me go spend money on computer hardware that is only needed for this one game.

Temporarily solved my issue by adjusting right speaker volume to minimum without losing total sound. This results in imbalanced hearing and negatively effects some aspects of the game. Still waiting for a real solution.
