What's the difference in damage? Do you recommend it? Were you still able to solo with LA?
In other words ..... based on what you experienced when you switched, do you recommend it?

Hi first off, awsome name...b:victory
Back to topic, i dont know anyone personally who has restatted to LA from pure, its usually the other way around.
From what i see both builds are viable from start to finish, i just think at later levels the damage difference between the two becomes alot more notacable.
From my own experience i havent regretted going for a pure mag build, though before this char i got an LA wiz to 30+ and had no trouble.
Though now i would say pure build is the way to go, but this is gonna be argued forever so...b:bye0 -
I restated from pure to LA at lv 40 and by level 60 my mage was useless for everything but rebirth & zhen. I did very little of the latter, but thanks to rebirth I was able to level very fast.
The damage difference is noticeable for skills like gush, pyro, and to a lesser extent stone rain (basically all the skills that mean anything). If you run around using Sandstorm & Glacial Snare, you won't really notice a huge difference, but again... it's not highly suggested that you run around spamming SS and GS.
The survivability:cost ratio is a big factor though, decent light armor gear is much MUCH more affordable than decent arcane gear.
I would present the question like this: Do you aim to level fast (thereby missing most of the enjoyable gameplay) just to get to a high level for PvP? (along the same lines, are you familiar enough with the game to know how to take this route?) Or is PW a time-sink wherein you find enjoyment by questing with friends & will one day (a reasonable amount of time, say 4-6 months) be lv 90 for PvP/TW fun?
If you are planning to level very fast (and in particular, know how to level fast) then LA is a great way to go. If you want to enjoy your mage, go arcane, the purest of the pure (some of us have even removed 2vit for extra magic).

I was pure till 60, restatted and tried la until 81 or so, and came back to pure. Light armor really upped my survivability, and damage was reduced about 2k or so on sandstorm. Light armor works ok, you can take a few hit easily and survive. The only problem i had with light armor was that for me it wasn't very exciting. Don't feel like much of a wizard while i dressed like an archer. If you learn how to play your class and especially to kite, pure builds work better because you don't get hit in the first place, so if you pay attention you dont' need to be able to take the hit. To seek out maximum damage pure builds win. I play pure because its more exciting, and you need to pay attention to whats always going on. More so, as a wizard you are expected to be a damage dealer in parties, where you are expected to just deal damage. In a good party you shouldn't really be getting hit in the first place, making light armors survivability kind of pointless.
Overall, light armor works all right in, especially in soloing, but i find pure builds more party friendly and exciting to play. I'd suggest sticking though it and playing pure. In endgame you can reach as much defence as a light armor build anyways if you wish to.0 -

yeah i know i'm not what people consider a high lvl, but still throwing my 2 cents in.
I play a pure build myself. never even considered the others. Yes my survivability is low against physical attacks. but like was said above, in a good party you won't get hit once. And when you solo, keep an eye on your surroundings and also learn kiting and distance shrinking. hehe.. has saved my butt a few times. most mobs are dead before they even get close enough to even spit at me as it is. but i also pick and choose my targets carefully. attacking a large clustered group of mobs without a zeal genie to pull with will give you a huge and hard fight you'll be lucky to get out of. (heh i do it for kicks though i got thrill issues)
From what i've seen on other threads on this forum the damage difference between LA and Pur just grows the higher in lvl you are. not to mention you loose valuable MP. less MP means more down time unless you like to quaff pots and herbs.
well that's just my 2 cents. but like i say to most people. play your char how you like to play, switching to something else just cause you hear some others saying its better only to see your play style doesn't match that build sucks.0 -
Here is my experience,
I have restatted from LA to pure mag 3 Vit build.
It all depends on what you will be doing the most. My wizard is not my first char so i wanted to level him ASAP to a decent PvP level. For this LA is the way to go because you can do everything solo for a fraction of the cost of Pure build. Rebirth gamma i went from level 72 to 80 in not even a week, and that's fast leveling.
Since i restatted i can take out arcane users of 5 levels higher then me. Once i get my undine i will be able to take down anyone 10 levels higher then me. atm i crit for 2K on arcane users while not even having my 80 weapon on yet.
In rebirth it was a mistake to restat at 80 instead of 85. I'm pulling way too many aggro and if i'm not paying attention i will die and my charm gets *****. Where i used 25K on my charm before i can use up to 100K now since i restatted.
But i think it's worth it. I'm a hell of a cannon and building up my pdef again atm and trying to get the pdef back of LA from my TT70 LA set. I'm currently at same HP and only 500 pdef short to get my survivability back. I do hit about 20% harder now(i'm currently wearing TT80 gold, and not updated my ornaments yet). People love what damage i can do in squads, making loads of instances just so much faster.I'm famous! i'm on ecatomb0 -

I switched from LA to Pure around level 43 and I like it a lot better. My damage on SS increased by about 2k and I was able to kill most things before they hit me (at least with melee mobs, archers needed more strategy and faction help XD). Also, to keep up with Pure DPS, LA's have to put a lot into equipment.[sigpic] [/sigpic]0 -
I have a lvl 91 LA Wizard, and I'm not restatting. I love LA, and the damage reduction is minimal, and imo worth it. What's the point of hitting 15k+ if I was pure, and having crappy p.def / HP, or having better P.def and HP, and still being able to deal 10k+. Imo it's a good trade-off PvP wise =P0
