Query: Assassin holding agro?

Okay, okay, before you go and scream how sins shouldn't hold agro/barbs are better at being tanks/etc..I know all of this. But my girlfriend and I are happily partying together and doing our best to play without anyone else's help. We've done great so far... from level 1 to 21. We even defeated Ocean Tusker all by ourselves. I was able to keep agro for a good long time, though eventually she ended up getting attacked thanks to her incredibly high damage skills.

But basically, what I'm trying to ask is this: What's the best way to keep agro on an enemy while being an assassin?

That helps yes, though when we're fighting mobs with high hp (like Ocean Tusker), I'll need that extra damage coming from her.

spam your bleed skill... same basic premise as the barb flesh ream, most of the aggro comes from the bleed effect

although the barb skill also has an added effect of throwing a whole heap of aggro on it, but yea

I guess you didn't read my post at all, so I'll just ignore you after this post.

That should help a bit...I'll try that. I'm also thinking of having her use her +Def -Atk buff, thus having her being able to still do okay damage, but not grab agro so quickly.

Ok after rereading that pile of bs, if you cant hold aggro long enough before it switches targets your doing something wrong.

How about this? Make her not use skills while you're the only one who uses skills. If that doesn't help, I don't know. b:shocked

She doesn't have many support abilities yet; mainly attacks and buffs for herself other than her reflect skill. I know in just a few levels she'll be able to heal. More than likely that'll be when we'll be able to truly work on only me getting agro only. Still, she has far too many awesome abilities for her to become a cleric. We'll probably end up using the +def -atk buff she has more often than its counterpart.

Ok Right Now I'm finding that the Psy is a much greater Damage Dealer then the Sin. I have one of each and now both about same lvl. The Sin Can deliver Damage quickly but so far not enought to hold Arrgo because the Psy Hits like a hammer.
Problem Is Both Are Squishy, At least at lower lvls. I am beginning to think The Psy needs to become the Tank with Stats going to VIT and MAG But again the Sin should become a crit monster at higher lvls with its stats going to Dex Vit Str.

Right now I play Psy with Sin too because I think if you get build right they will make a great team. But I'm not sure if they will ever become only a 2 person team. Sins are going to end up critting like Archers and Psys will be Tanking. Just my Thoughts from what I've seen with the ones i'm playing

I can somewhat see this too..not only that, Psychics have that wonderful def buff... yeah, unless I add more vit, she may actually be better at tanking than I...as well as hitting harder.

    Bah.

At the lower levels, you won't be able to keep aggro. Why?

    -Your damage is low.
-You have no real amount of crit to work with.
-You have no skills that generate a large deal of aggro.
-Casters classes with low channel/cast/cooldown times dish out insane damage at lower levels.

Once you get to higher levels and get more crit, as well as a higher base damage so that your attack speed is useful, holding aggro with normal attacks gets easier.

    Nice contradiction!

If you want the extra DD but are afraid of the aggro, have the psychic take off their rings that add attack or another equipped item. (Similar to Archers crit rings). This might help.

Though ironic, the one that burns MP on attacks faster is the one that gets aggro. Basically you have to compete with her power with your own power. However, in the beginning, you're stuck with several skills that simply won't allow you to do so (ie. Twin Strike). The damage power of an Assassin and Psychic evens out around level 35~40, and I've noticed that I'm REALLY outpacing Psychics at 45+. So, really, it starts out very slow but soon you'll blow the competition away.

at lvl 29 before cultivation you will take a new skill that freezes the target, maybe you cant hold aggro..but can avoid someone being hit. :P

But basically, what I'm trying to ask is this: What's the best way to keep agro on an enemy while being an assassin?
Think high DPS. I dont know how to abuse any other aggro skills atm but for sins your main weapon is DPS. Like how archers take aggro from barbs from their fast attacks and crits, so can sins. My sin is still mid lvl atm so i cant say anything regarding full crits procuring, but the hit rate compared to archers i can say are a tad bit fast. -% interval is something we are naturally given with so on my sin i focused on what gave me most acc and dmg.
VS a barb you wont be able to get full aggro at FIRST (say if they use ream). But as the dmg stacks the mob will focus on you (again if you dont have a barb that casts a 2nd aggro skill to take it back from you) My experience is coming from FB bosses where the boss HP is high so unless you have some pretty good dmg, i think the normal mobs would be dead while you TRY to take aggro.
But like someone said we(sins) are squishy. They sacrifice sometimes their VIT for DEX which is our main source of DPS. You would probably need high lvl gear assistance.

Sparking MIGHT or might NOT be good. This is cause to spark, you waste a good amount of time on the action then continuously attacking. (unless you sparked at start)

in my experience of teaming up with a psychic so far is the skill tackling slash
u will need to be lvl 29 just immobilize the mob with tackling slash and even if she takes aggro the mob will stay in its place so it will be no problem because it will be dead before the mob is out of the freeze

for bosses though i would advise to do as much dmg as possible but i dont have any info about tanking bosses

We had an assassin tank my bounty hunter quest this morning (against Farren).

I am sorry that we violated your guidelines, but -- in my defense -- I did not know about this rule then.

I take that as sarcasm right? XD Anyway, i agree with Morty with that sins should not tank, but i do not think it is impossible... just as wizards can tank magic bosses, i'm sure there are some bosses that sins could tank, like Farren for you. I just need to level more to see some sort of revelation in my squishiness...

ok, disregarding the obvious "Sin's shouldnt be tanking" lecture. A simple solution would be to drop some money on a lvl 45+ genie and get Alpha Male...
