Emptying Sockets?

I bought an armor from the auction house. Is there anyway I can take the stone out of the armor and put a more respectable stone in it?

I did some searches, just can't find any info on this topic.

    Short answer, yes.
    You go to the same NPC you would use to imbue it and choose "Purify equipment"

    This will remove all the shards, but nothing else. (The refinement stays, the blue magic bonuses stay)

    If the item is refined does it lose it's refinement if I do that?
