I'm upgrading to Windows 7 soon (I don't want opinions about the OS), I was wondering if PWI will run fine on Windows 7, actual use of PWI with Windows 7 OS with screens would help me feel better about upgrading as well.

As you can see here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=3644726&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&submit.y=5&submit.x=5&lang=en&cc=us

Your PC might not have system drivers to cover Win7, which would be HP's fault, not MS's.

The Vista drivers "should" be compatible with Win7, but no promises.

Win7 plays all of our games, we have now tested in 32bit and 64bit Win7.

Edit: I think you'll love DirectX 11 and the nVidia drivers for Win7 for your chipset.
Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

    it works lovely.
I just got this laptop on Black Friday and PWI runs like a dream on Win 7 (at least on my machine anyhow). I tested the overall graphics on full, full screen, and 1366*768 resolution. it runs smooth as a babies butt. I can record 800*600 full effects with FRAPS getting 59 fps. Im uploading a video but its apparently taking 50 minutes for a 30 second recordingb:shocked

If you're interested in my own specs:

most important thing here for you is to firstly backup all your data before upgrading, and located drivers for all your hardware. make sure you have a vista or w/e your current OS is reinstallation disc handy in the event that the vista drivers on the HP website do not work for you.

You should have gotten Win7 64bit.

You can't use your full RAM amount, and you can't upgrade to use 4GB-8GBs fully.

Head's up, TOSHIBA's support for system drivers are medium to bad.

If everything runs great now though, awesome.

Note to all players, unless you have to use an ancient machine, install the 64bit version of Windows 7 if your CPUs are 64bit for best performance.
Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

well.. its what came on the machine - if I were to reinstall any OS though, it would be XP Pro SP3 (if I can find drivers for it). I'm not overly concerned about upgrading this machine or running 64 bit OS on it. The main reason I got it was for when I visit my sister and we play PWI together - my desktop is my main machine (or will become so again after I upgrade it).

    Hey, hopefully someone can help.
I recently had a bit of a problem with my HDD that was running XP home Sp3, so I upgraded, on another HDD to Win7 x64.

I downloaded the appropriate game installer from the website, and the game downloads fine, but when it comes to installing, it gives me an error about missing files or something?

Not sure if I'm missing something on my computer, or it's in the installer itself.

Can anyone shed some light on this woeful situation?

    Cheers

try downloading the vista/7 torrent as it should prevent corrupt/missing files. then try again to install off of that download (not the first one) and report your success/failure.

if you do not have a torrent client, get utorrent here:
    http://www.utorrent.com/

if you are behind a router and need help in setting up port forward rules, let us know your router's make and model.

The included picture in the post above is what happens when I instal from the game downloaded via torrent.

It doesn't seem to work from Torrent or Server downloads at all.

I did a search yesterday, and there are about half a dozen threads related to my problem.
None of them had proper responses bar one which mentioned the ticketing system.
Might as well just give that a try.

    EDIT: Ticket sent.

Yes I have all admin rights.
I turned off UAC and downloaded another winrar (Win7 x64 version)

Did the same thing. Still not working.
Sent in a ticket with my dxdiag (I don't think they even looked at it) but I will send another with my hijackthis logs when and if they email back.

Really starting to annoy me :3

does this machine have norton or any other antivirus application running? If so - try disabling/uninstalling/shutting down that application during the installation process.

I never turned off UAC nor did I do the torrent download when I installed on my Windows 7 Laptop, so my logic tells me the UAC is not the culprit and that an HTTP download will work if all files are infact intact. The only difference at the moment I can think of is the fact that the very first thing I did when I opened this machine was to delete the Norton security suite (not a very good one, and takes more resources than I can justify for its poor performance). So yeah.. try disabling any antivirus you may have running.

I have Windows 7 Professional 32-bit and Kaspersky, but I did encounter some problems during the installation:
    - I downloaded game client directly: pwi_Downloader_v166_Vista.exe, and had no problems installing it (I also ran verification wherever applicable)
    - I manually donloaded patch 166-217 (only after re-installing the whole PW once because of the problem I had and unforunately still have; first time I used patch_1 server, but it took a looooooong time to upload everything xP), again with no problems
    - then I used all the info I could find here (and elswhere on the site): http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=75572
    - then I ran verification (which updated some files)

But after all this I still kept getting the same error message as before when I wanted to start the game.

Antihelion, I'm going to need some more information from you about your computer.

Find out what the model number for your PC is. Check the documentation that came with your PC, or look on the back or bottom of your PC for the model Number.

Please tell us the manufacturer's name of your system too! (Like HP, Dell, Toshiba, etc.)

Next, go to Start, click on Run (or Search if using Vista/7), and type in dxdiag and press enter.

Click on the Display tab, and then post here everything in the Device and Drivers boxes:
    dxdiag.jpg

    Thanks!

I'm afraid I cannot give you the model nuber: as the computer is quite old and it was originally not bought for me, I have no idea where the documentation could be and the number is neither on the back nor on the bottom of the PC (or on any other side of it xD). Since it was custom made, if I remeber correctly, I can't even give you the manufacturer (it's not written anywhere either)....
hope System Informaton from dxdiag can help (didn't include date/time and computer name, as you probably don't need it anyway), but I also included this info in case this could be source of any problems:

    That's it, I think :D

I would attach a link to my error, but I deleted the PrintScreen and uninstalled the PW for now, but I wrote some info about it here:

Alright, it looks like you don't have any video drivers installed. I CAN tell that you have a video card from the Radeon 9200 series (though not specifically which one). Unfortunately, there don't seem to be any Windows 7 drivers for this card. My suggestion would be to contact AMD and see if they can provide any solutions.
