Why do people make alts??

I am curious to hear people's different reasons as to why they make an alt.

If you level your alt will it eventually become your main?

Do you keep it a certain level for other reasons?

I am sure many reasons will be, you are just bored of the daily excitement of grinding millions of exp to get that next 2%.
tatuaje: grinding mobs and zhenning ???
frankieraye:All right, I admit it, it's a bit retro. lol.

Try out other builds, skills, play styles, play on an unknown name away from your known friends, play as a spy or double/triple agent in Factions, and many other reasons. b:pleased

Later on, you find out your alt is actually pretty sweet, you might decide to switch.b:victory

Sometimes it's fun to try playing a different class. You get to do something different and see how the other classes work, and maybe find some quests you never did before.

GMs are rather chatty today :o.
i only make them in other games if im preparing to make another high level character. start them out slow while leveling main, then once prepared with gear, i start their adventure.

I make them to try something different when I get bored on my main. They usually don't get too high level for me because I'm horrible at multitasking b:surrender

My favorite alt is a barb I'm slowly leveling, because then I'll have a tank AND a healer. b:cute

I personally have in most games i play/played one of each class
i lean towards a main of tamer / mage / healer roles with my least liked being anything that doesn't have magic b:chuckle

for me i find the knowledge of gain from having more then one charater helps me in squads as well. I know what to expect sometimes before the player knows and can prepare myself and my squad. As a cleric I can tell my squad within thier roles and limitations what i need them to do so i can keep them alive. As a Veno I can be aware of what my barb and cleric are doing make sure they are ready make sure i dont make thier job any harder then it should be

ect ect you get the idea

I get bored with my mains--- I go through times of loving my cleric, to loving my veno, to loving my BM. My wizzie? I've loved since day one. b:victory

Still take time for every one of my alts, though. Can't wait 'till I can replace my veno with my wizzie in my veno's faction.

to troll your faction. like give advice to higher levels but you're a lvl 20. it's hilarious because some people in your fac who would never talk back to you start to talk smack or ignore you because they don't know that you're on an alt. really separates the truly friendly fac mates from the **** kissers.

my old guild lead, has a 8x barb and a 8x bm. yet some of the newer members of my old guild won't listen to his TT advice when he's on his 5x archer. b:laugh

Lol yeah i had lvl10 veno and to some random faction and was givin the high lvls advice on 3-1 and they like WTF xD

Also its fun just to go through the lower levels again and when somebody kills your alt you get your main to kill them, then they like "Q_______Q" b:victory

Also helps somewhat in pvp when you know other peoples classes aswell as your own b:laugh

Me and my veno friend I always play with are lvling barbs so we can do most things in game just the two of us and not bother others (although I gotta say, our faction leader is VERY helpful, and would go out of his way to help, love you Vertx)

I've only ever made an alt to play other classes and only once to get away from spammers. The next alt I'm planning to make is going to be my smexy assassin whose name I will not reveal so no one takes it before I can get it. >.>

Boredom. Unfortunately no one lately, at least in the factions I've been in so far, is willing to really do much. As in very rarely do anything like TT, frost, instances, WB's or any other sort of fun/interesting activity besides CS/WQ/BH/Grind over and over and over and over... and rebirth in tiny select squads that only allow mega-exp'd members.

When you begin to realise that is something that will never change, you realise that you are leveling purely to be still doing WQ/CS/BH/Grind over and over....only at a higher level than usual. TW's great, but unless you're in a top faction it's just hurling yourself at the unbeatable week after week and burning charms. I can begin to understand why higher levels all move to the big factions and go PK'ing a lot.

At least on an alt it's different. You have a ton of quests, a story line. New fellow players are happy to try anything out regardless of difficulty and make friends and have fun. Lot's of bosses and fb's and dungeons to do. You need to work with others, rather than solo dailies. You get to try a new character, new ideas, you get new weapons and armor almost daily. Basically, you actually get to play the game again.

    That's always fun. xD

My alts are cleric/blademaster/wizard. I only play those rarely, sometimes I need a break from my veno. None is higher than 45, so I guess in the end I like playing veno the most.

    1) For fun/bored of barraging for 3 hours. Able to help guild/friends more though DD is always useful too. Helps learn just how much a barb can take/hold aggro on (I wish my archer had invoke b:chuckle).

    2) No I <3 my archer and there is no way I'm going to get this high lvl/higher AGAIN ><.

    3) 85 for gamma. Though delta looks like it would be a blast.

I make alt's to fulfill a specific role in party's or on my account, IE; veno for money, blade master for tanking. if my veno starts to out level my blade master then my veno will become my main.

I've made a number of alts that act as mules (storage) and a few that I tried playing but decided I really was not into the class/play style.

I have several classes I play now (Wizard, BM and Veno) that I enjoy.

I started out playing this game as a fail BM build and then a fail veno build. I only made it to lvl 12ish on both chars and stopped playing. I came back and to the game and tried out a barb because I clearly was not enjoying BM or Veno.

I loved the barb but eventually needed more. It got boring between levels (that was back before the days of daily BH). I started a veno (lvl 69), a wiz (3x), and a cleric (3x). My veno became my main when I retired my barb. I made her my main for a few reasons; the main reason being that my barb was no longer fun for me.

Then, I left all of them behind and switched to the Heaven's Tear server. My main is now a 76 cleric. With active alts (archer--46; veno--20) because sometimes you need a change.

I started making alts due to boredom. Now, I make alts to prevent the boredom from creeping up again.

Will my alt ever become my main? I hope not. I love my cleric; I've found my calling. I sometimes miss my barb, but I never feel like I want to go back to him.

I don't leave them at any particular level intentionally, though they do get neglected during busy times and go without leveling for days at times.

My old, original characters with the fail builds are simply storage units now.

My next alt will be a psychic because it's new. I want to try it out. Maybe an assassin, just to see what they are all about.

I make and play alts to Learn a little about the classes. I've found that its easier to work with them if you understand at least some what, how they tick.

    This.

I have an alt account too which I leave running on my laptop so I can do other things (including play PWI) while trading goods.

Well, I personally make alts just for a change. I mean, don't get me wrong, playing the class that you enjoy the most is great, but after a while some people just need a change. Also, it helps give you the feeling of enjoyment of doing the lower-level quests again. Another benefit is that you meet other people that are of a lower level, and as they level you can hop on your main and help them with their BH's and such, which can let your main get a few more EXP. Also, if you end up playing another class and you like it more than your current main, you can start all over again. Sometimes starting over refreshes someone and makes the game more enjoyable. However, for some people, making an alt would just be a waste of time.

I have my main, currently lvl 76 cleric, after a failed cleric and veno. I also have a lvl 52 veno that I Love to play, then a wiz and archer, both in their 40s. Ive tried a bm -in her teens- and played on a friend's barb, but neither of these classes really interest me much. I find the alt's keep me from becoming overly bored of my cleric, or the monotony of the veno, and the extra money helps defray the costs of my cleric's skills as shes a hybrid build, squad set mostly. I tend to do dailies on her, play a while, then chose an alt to go to, so as to actually enjoy the game. I play strictly pve, while Ive tried pk, its not my thing. Just my 2 cents.

Good reasons to make an alt:
    - experience something new and have a change
    - become more of a feeling for strengh and weaknes of another class
    - get something to do when you are rly bored on high lvls
    - experiment with the character creator
    - create additional storage space if you are a packrat
    - have a catshop character
    - reach a certain lvl for duels (for example 70s)
    - find some peace from demanding faction mates
    - troll the forums

Bad reasons to make an alt:
    - scam people without ruining your name
    - randomly bring trouble into other factions in disguise
    - beg for items
    - provoke people with offensive names or looks
    - test if your ingame husband would cheat you with another girl
    - have a catshop character that floods the west arch chat
    - troll the forums

That's all I can think off atm... hmmm b:tired
    Cervantia BM 100 / Calivthel Cleric 101 / Davinella Archer 9x
    Kachengy Seeker 8x / Pianna Wizard 8x

I need neither goons nor powerleveling.
Addicted to PW since Mai 09.

The reason I have two characters, is to give my faction an option. If they need a BG(BodyGuard) I use my BM. If they need a tank for Dungeons, I use my Barb. Since they r within 2 levels of each other, It's their choice who they want in w/e situation. Once the Assassin comes around, who knows what the uses for him will be, Hahaha
