OK well i have been wondering if i should change to LA...clerics nearly always beat me in duels with their plume shot and spam healing themselves so would LA be better then staying arcane?

Well I wouldn't really think so if you're just going against Clerics cause they use magic. So unless LA has more magic def. then I wouldn't suggest it. But if you're deciding to go up against more physical classes (Archer, BM, BARB ect.) then I would suggest going to LA.
Don't stare at me like that, I just might like it.

Change strategy against clerics in duels :) Losing duels against clerics isn't reason to restat. If being arcane works just fine in other areas, then remain like that.

My lazy way to beat a cleric in duel is -> Bramble Hood, Fox form, Purge, Amp, Back to human form and finish them (pet is attacking all the time). I think purge removes stacked irons too... but I have yet to test it.

There's two ways to do it, if you dont have fox skills; get them. I even beat them without my pheonix, I just use the level 85 fox with flesh ream ;D

Start in fox form. Amp-> (By this stage you're probably in sleep so wait it out, by now he'll be rebuffing himself and probably spark so now is when you purge him) ->stunning blow (max this)-> holy path/run/human form-> Ironwood -> nuke.

Be smart and don't purge him at the start, save it till he's slept you and inronhearts himself. Sometimes clerics won't being their rebuff and sleep routine until you purge them, in this case it's not a bad thing to purge them at the beginning~ I find cleric duels play out long enough to purge them a second time.

P.S Don't base your standing in PvP from duels. Arcane venomancers are really formidable in open feild pvp. Charms can change alot.

Fox skills to invest in (pvp/pve) Amp, fox form, purge, stunning blow (good for kiting) and myriad rainbow.

a good tactic to kill clerics who spam ironheart on themselves is purge them. This gets rid of all buffs including the heal overime that Ironheart gives you. once you do that lucky scarab and Ironheart scarab should follow(not particularly in that order.

*edit I guess someone already posted pretty detailed duel strategy. just remember there is no set skills to use every time in a certain order in duels, notice what they do and adapt*

    LA veno b:victory

If you are wearing robes havent enought dex and str to wear a nice LA armor, then you will need some inter. reset notes to change it. Must be really sure that you want wear LA armor or can afford it if later fell regret on that change. Adding garnet shard (phy def+) at your arcane armor will give you more physical defense also you can wear heavy ornaments that give u more vit and more physical defense.

LA venos sacrifice his Vit to add those points at dex and str. Imbue citrines (HP+) at armor to balance it.

Anyway if you finally decide change to LA I recommend you keep your robes with LA build you can wear both armors.

    Good luck at any choose

Clerics are the biggest threat to me, since they can rebuff, and heal, especially a smart Cleric who knows how to use Plume Shell. However. That being said, using a decent DPS pet with good skills, combined with Amp, Purge, and Fox Wallop, usually takes down anything less than perfect. Clerics are usually robes, so smacking on them in Fox Form really hurts. To quote an equal level cleric I beat in PvP, "What the hell did you hit me with?!" The answer was actually a Leech, followed by a crit normal attack... I actually managed to bust through his charm, and his healing with the power of my Golem, who had Flesh Ream, and Bash, as well as my normal attack power. Didn't even Amp. Although, TBH, he damn near got me. He had enough chi to Double Spark... First hit hurt like an SOB, and ticked my Charm. Thankfully, I always pack the Event Food, as well as Elixirs. He started channeling another shot, and I purged him. That one didn't hurt as much. b:chuckle Then, I trashed him.

Really, though. Any class VS any class requires different strategies. Just find what works, and stick with it. No restat required.

Clerics are easy to beat, all u need is sleep immune on genie. It gives u like 10 sec immune to sleep so there 2 options:
    1) 10 sec to finish cleric (with nix its easier than super easy to pull that out)
    2) he sleeps at a start and has now 20 sec cooldown which leaves u with 20 sec to kill him (even easier)

Cleric can easily beat your attacks + pet with his heals but if u got punce on pet u can debuff + kill him (lucky + ironwood + extreme poison). If u dont have pet with pounce i guess u need stunning blow.

silly question.... do you use bramble hood when they announce that battle starts or do you cast it while it still countdowns? I usually cast it when I see 2 or 1 and then start to attack.

The rare times I duel, I generally be a jerk and cast feral concentration (with a fortify genie hit) as the timer hits 1-2. Invulnerability for the first 10 seconds of the fight is pretty fun.

I'm not going to spend on consumables just to duel. Maybe that should be a pre-arranged thing between duelers. Maybe a code word that's agreed on to make it simple.

There's a minority that don't agree to genies in duels but in my opnion, I use whatever skills are avilable to me to win and I don't really care what my opponent thinks. Tree of protection is not as powerful as it used to be, the skills are more balanced.

You cannot gain a clear understanding of PvP by disallowing yourself to use skills you normally would.

You can't gain a true understanding, no, but it's a platform to learn. Either way, in PvP, anything goes, pots, genies, etc. In Duels, I don't care if my opponent uses anything he wants. I'll still duel without them.

In duels you expect that enemy will attack and you have time to get prepared. While in real pk you can get attacked at any moment. Also duels are without charms. You might win someone in duel while it will take eternity to win in pk. For example, BM vs BM. Duels can't be really used as base for pk. Besides, many skills in duels works differently than in real pk. I quite often start duel with hood, but would I do the same in pk? Not sure.

In my opinion, it is more to have fun, improve your own skills, learn to change strategy in middle of fight, utilize your own skills. And also in a way to learn how other classes work. But I am not planing to pk any time soon, so maybe that's why my interpretation is different .

Besides, it is kinda waste of stamina to use them. And I have enough with getting accused for using pots in duels, cause my hp jumped back (metabolic boost, Soul transfusion)

Heh. I hear you about the healing, Dame. People always yell at me for Pots, etc, because I use Leech all the time. Last person I fought, even in PvP, yelled at me for using a genie, because he saw a lightning bolt. Yeah. That's one of my pet's skills. No matter what you do, some people will whine when they lose. I had to laugh at some noob who wanted to fight me. First, it was no pet, then it was no Fox Form. I beat him all three times. It was kind of sad, really.
