A full intellligence build or the light armour build. Which one would deal greater damage and prevail in pvp and which one would be more PvE preferred?

Rofl, I'm new to this game and i'm just curious as i've heard several debates on the 2 but really no answers that were NOT biased or opinion based :P

All builds are opinion based. Just choose the one you're most convinced with from other people's arguments and reset later if you have doubts.
And I assure you there've been more than several debates on armor builds for wizard

Pure Arcane = maximum damage & squishiest toe-to-toe.

Arcane w/ Vit = slightly gimped damage, slightly more survivability

Light Armour = loss of ~140 magic stat points @ lvl 90, better toe-to-toe survivability, weak magic defence, higher crit rate.

If you have $$$ to spend on PW then you can get good enough gears/refines to be tough Arcane. If you are purely F2P then LA makes you less squishy and crit more.

    oh noes~
me am purely F2P and went arcane~~

heres me opinion....it be your own choice which way you go.

however, if you be extremely social (your going to need a squad like 75% of the time lols if your completely F2P like me) then me suggest you go arcane since me always find a tank or something to help. Also arcane is more helpful to others since you can fight longer (bigger mana pool/more MP regen/do more damage.) b:chuckle

but if you not sure of you skills and stuff me suggest you go light armor.

    I'm all for pvp , so I'm going to give you a pvp build ;
pour all your points into INT , and once in a blue moon up your STR
to meet up with the next armor/ weapon upgrade

You don't need to go up toe - toe with a tank when you can 1 hit them to the floor , so hp does not matter with alick in pvp when your a mage

I know people are going to troll my build ; all I can say is bring it !

I would say what's best depends on a whole slew of issues.

Have you ever played a wizard before and do you sort of know what you're doing? If so, LA might be the best way for you to level up quickly through those tough lower level phys mobs. If not, AA forces you to learn to play your class the way its meant to be played, and if you really good at playing a wiz, then its higher damage and bigger mp pool will help you level faster.

Don't make money well? LA's a bit cheaper.

Planning to PvP as soon as you hit 30? LA has crits which are very important for PvP, and will let you take a few hits if you get caught unawares. AA shines in higher levels, where gear refines and shards catch up our pdef and hp, higher consistent damage per hit will make a difference, and +crit % ornaments and gear make that particular LA advantage obsolete.

Planning to squad up a lot or go solo? Solo, LA can provide a bit of a defense cushion, but in a squad, the extra damage from AA makes things go quicker.

Don't like having to hold back to keep from taking aggro? LA's lower damage can help keep you from having to do that, though you still have to watch out for freak crit chains.

At 90+, if you're still LA then you will be outclassed by both pure Int AA users and hybrid vit AA users. At low levels, it's a matter of playstyle and preference.

Light armor wiz dont die to every mob they aggro though. There were cases were the tank died and i became the tank. LA is very viable at 70-90 and i reccomend it to all wizards. My defense and HP is comparable to AA wiz with +4 armor and flawless/immac shards and my gear is +2 with beautiful citrines. Of course, at 90 you want to go AA >.>
Sins are Scissors. Psychics are Rocks.
Archers, Venos, Barbs, Wizards, BMs, Mystics, Seekers are Paper.
    ...and Clerics are Mushrooms.
Paper beats Rock. Scissors beats Paper. Scissors also happens to beat Rock...until Rock gets 50k+ soulforce at which point Rock becomes an unstoppable killing machine that beats Paper... and would beat Scissors but it can't find Scissors, because Scissors are invisible.
So Scissors beat Paper and avoids Rock, and that is called BALANCE. -cheze

in fact me said the opposite...that they survive better....b:chuckle

I've been playing this game for the longest time , and I've seen odd balls builds zippomen has a good point though , along with the person I'm quoting

if you go with a pure int build like zippomen tells you ; go with WD for your 59 spell pick and max it out ; water shard the **** out of your weapon / EQ
and you well hit in the 20k + range at 90 with WD and unless you have a charm or back up your going to 1ko anyone but bosses

why would you put water gems in your weapon, they dont help spells.

I am applying the Pure Magic strategy, aside from the bare minimum STR needed for equipment. I believe in the "Best Defense is a Killer Offense" philosophy when it comes to Mages. I'm not into PVP. This build has been working GREAT thusfar as strictly a PVE player. (note: I've died only once and I'm level 20. Not a brag but a fact that Pure Magic Mage is worthwile). As a PVP player I'm sure Light Armor Mage is better but for PVE I love this build. I look forward to getting some serious damage modifiers in the upper levels such as added Magic Attack and Crit and improved Channeling.
