Archers' viability in PvE
Comments

its as expensive as how good you are/how much youve invested in gear, the more you suck the more youll pay in guardian scrolls, charms, repairs etc. id think they solo pretty well, half of all the PK rankings are archers[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
advice to fledgling archers:
Going sage is like drunken sex, at first she may look good, but when you wake up the next morning; you'll look at her and go WHAT HAVE I DONE.0 -
About expense, I'm also reffering to how quickly they burn through MP/HP and need to use pots.0
-
If you pick the correct weapons, correct mobs and use the correct skills, you can obtain more potions through drops than you actually use.
Thus, you should never have to buy potions from NPC.0 -
Simply, how well can they solo, how expensive are they, and how useful/effective are they as PvE only (i.e. do they feel wasted by not PvPing)?
Archers are very good in pve, easy to play in pve and very cheap in pve. Archers is by far a a better pve class than pvp class if you only have "good gear" and not amazing "i spent 6000 USD on refines event stuff and rank 8 gear".
So no they don't feel wasted if you only use them for pve since they really aren't suited for pvp at all unless you spend a lot of money on refines/gear/skills. But only doing pve stuffs in this game tends to get a bit boring in the long run since most instances in this game are far more fun if you alt tab during the boss and watch a movie instead <.<0 -

I always needs to buy pots cos i'm jus too lazy to wait either to meditate of let my wingshell regen my mp. So i use pots. <--- lazy me
So everytime i go to an npc it will be to buy pots and repair my bow.
At most i'll pay about 5-6k. But gain much more from selling drops i got from mobs.
So.. i think its cheap for pve. But u wana start PKing... than its not (unless u dnt mind being dead most of the time).[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
I have not bought any pots till date b:laugh The pots I have used came from drops.
At lower levels, it's hard to level up, but as you level up, it gets easier and easier.0 -

Yeah it works well on paper but I always keep pots handy just in case.
To the OP:
Winged shell doesnt remove all damage btw. So keep that in mind, your health slowly goes down and then suddenly you accidently aggro 3 mobs at once, winged shell is on cooldown and you die. b:cry
Winged shell mp regen...At level 10 you use 238mp to cast it (45 chi as well). It recovers 64mp every 3 seconds up to 6 times. 64 x 6=384mp. So you get a "profit" of 146mp. Remember that the mp might not regen the 6 times its supposed to. At level 10 it recovers 810 damage. Mobs at lvl 65~ deal about 400 damage. So thats about 2 hits.
Just some things to remember. A combo like Take aim→normal attack→winged shell→knockback arrow→normals till dead (and maybe a stun/aimlow if the mob has a effect on it) works well. Take aim lvl 9 needs 90 mp, and 285% weapon damage. Knockback needs 34.2mp provided u kept it at lvl 1 (like you should.) altogether thats 124.2mp used, while 146mp gained. The extra mp you keep handy incase you come across a strong mob (like increased life or something) or you get attack by a lot of mobs.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

If you are pure, mobs should only hit you 1 time TOPS. I am pure, with 3 base vit and 12 vit due to gear and I have 3.2k HP unbuffed. I use LifePowder and it works well for me. Sure, I have a few HP pots but they come from drops. On the MP side, I have 1.5k mp, so I use perfect mana potions (the lvl 30 ones, which recover 540mp[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Interestingly with demon spark replenishing 20% HP I find myself almost never using HP pots while grinding. I do however go through MP at a decent rate though there is cheap seseme available due to the event. (Still have like 10k seseme saved from jones).[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Why are we only looking at grinding in the normal overworld here? TT monsters will **** you a new one as "pure"[SIGPIC]lol[/SIGPIC]0 -

I was replying to the guy who analized the mechanics of winged shell and that is not worth it ... bla bla bal.
and I use my 77 barb for TT. I put my archer on follow. I dont get your TT monsters line. What, you planning to tank them?
+1 to the PvE viability.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

why does anyone grind in....tt? if u are in tt get ur barb/bm/herc to tank for you. and even as pure if u react fast enough u can survive 2-3 hit easily in tt with below average gear, even more hits if u carry hp charm, use genie, pots, apoth etc.
archer is very cheap in PvE when there are plenty of easy mob to select on for grinding. if u are just for PvE as archer then the main focus is getting ur wpn to be at an ok lvl, like +4 or +5. aim for using slings or bow. if u pick the right mob frost arrow>normal attack will be enough to finish of most mobs, some will need frost arrow> normal atk x2/3 >knockback. if u are worryed about mp useage, u can just dig a few herbs for focus powder or concentration orb. u also further have the option of finding helm/headgear and capes with mp recovery. mobs shouldn't attack u enough that u need to wry much about hp, a few hp pot from mob drops should be enough. My body is made of swords.
Iron is my blood, and glass is my heart.
I have overcome countless battlefields undefeated,
Without once retreating,
Nor once being understood.
Always alone, intoxicated with victory on the hill of swords.
Therefore, there is no meaning to that life.
Perhaps this body is nothing but a sword itself.0 -
Make a veno and mail the pots you get from drops to your archer.

@Kireina
You go into TT for mats not for grinding. And if you need mats, soloing with an archer is probably the most dumbest thing you could try unless youre doing TT1-1 at your level, in which case the drops are not even useful. Realistically talking, I would get more exp grinding on normal mobs than inside TT alone. The normal ones are easier, die much faster and drop quite a bit on goodies.
@OP
Archers are pretty good pve. Almost 0 pot usage and you usually get potions as drops. Till date I havent bought a single hp/mp pot but rather given away pots to factionmates since they were cluttering up my bank.
Even with a xBow the only skills I primarily use are Frost/Take Aim and Knockback and winged shell thrown in at times (inc life, inc def mobs, inc movement). This is for mobs at my lvl or slightly higher mobs. For lower mobs either normals with a frost/knockback is more than sufficient.0 -

I was more talking about aoe damage and doing elites swiftly, in 3-1 we often toss a central BB up and everyone starts killing one. Beats boring barb/bm luring back to the door and ganging up on monsters. But also BH aoes and so on. I like the small HP cushion from the little VIT I've added and it does save lives, especially in RB. After 70 there's really no need to be grinding on regular mobs regardless. Start doing TT/RB for gear/EXP instead.[SIGPIC]lol[/SIGPIC]0 -
Hmm that would totally depend ones playing style i suppose. We too engage multiple mobs at once and gang up on them but without the bubble support. At my level this is pretty much possible but not sure at yours. So its not like we do one by one, but simply let the tank to what they do best.
I prefer the casual normal hunting than the intense super duper fast exp gaining grind sessions in dungeons. I love to simply chat with my friends while grinding on mobs between the BHs.
I cant afford charms as of yet, so RB is out of question (gather apoth pots for it though). The normal hunting indeed has provided some great returns in terms of mats (whch i need for getting my manufacturing skills to lvl6) and DQ drops which provided for the TT70 set :P.
All in all archers do pretty well PVE wise even if you cant afford a lot of stuff. Just ensure u have a good enough weapon and ensure u know how to use ur skills and and u can breeze through without much of a problem.0 -

At this point there's TT monsters that hit 1.5-2k+ without bubble.I prefer the casual normal hunting than the intense super duper fast exp gaining grind sessions in dungeons. I love to simply chat with my friends while grinding on mobs between the BHs.
In RBs the only ones actively moving around are the BM/Barb, plenty of chance to talk.I cant afford charms as of yet, so RB is out of question (gather apoth pots for it though). With a good BM/Barb you can do an RB without ticking until the very end (boss hits 3k every so often) Happened to me several times already. An Archer can use a Bronze Guardian Charm for about 3 RBs on average. Just get some MP apothecary for the first round, the 2nd round Mana2 aura takes care of your MP refill, just make sure you have 1.8k MP or more. If not, use a normal MP pot every time your MP comes near the 800-900 mark.
The RB earns itself back, theres a chance for Immaculates to drop and you get about 400-500k of coin drops, which will easily buy you another charm.[SIGPIC]lol[/SIGPIC]0
