Which are the best level 70 axes, and why? I've read other threads about this but they said either calamities, heraldries, or thunderbolt axes.

go with heraldry, for a soul edge, because they make the level 90 berzerk axes. then keep calamities and refine them pretty decently, while still making herald->lion king->calloused lionhearts.

I voted for Calamity, but Heraldry are good too. Former for PvP, latter for tanking. Just do NOT get Thunderbolt because the TT80 axes from it sucks.

Heraldy I used and they are good. Plus, you get nice axes with the soul edge (decomposed).

Though calamity would be my second choice.

is shinoaxe that bad?! i am planning to get it, as it gives a good amount of dex, patk, and 1% crit, without costing a lot of money as the mats required are fairy cheap.

that aside, as for thunderbolt axe, i think it will make a great grinder weapon as it gives more strength and patk. you will not be grinding with calamities, unless you are really rich, because that zerk effect will just eat through the charm. however, calamities will make a great tanking weapon, with the added vit and hp, plus zerk will give you a better aggro. as for herald, i don't think it's useful in the 70s, however, you will want to get it to continue down the tt weapon tree to get good endgame axes.

for those very reason, i have all three of the 70s axes.

But wouldnt I lose hp while tanking with calamities?

Personally i would say the calamities axes. mainly because of the double damage. but its good to switch during bosses because you do lose HP.

Make the Heraldry. Even if you dont plan on getting the GXs, you can make better axes at higher lvls with them.

Calamities are good, but you dont want to invest "only" on them. You are going to need another set of axes to make the higher lvl ones, which are, way better than them. At 7x they rock tho. Yes you will lose HP using them, you wont die for zerk using tho.... the mob will b:chuckle

Is not that the Shinroaxes suck.... they are a pretty decent axes... Hell, i use them XD. But the TT90/99 axes that you can make with their souledge are.... well... not very good (haunted axes are ok, but they need Dust of Devil that drops from AE, making them very expensive, i mean VERY for those axes).

    I hope it helps

Yes you do lose HP with calamities because of the berserk (or Sacrificial Strike?). However, the HP loss can easily be taken care of with a competent cleric.

I see no point in decomposing shinoaxes for TT90 though. I'm going to try to get star axes.

Thunderbolt > Heraldry for actual use. I had both cause I had always planned the GX route. Lion King axes, however, were pretty decent. I love my GX, but I have a set of OHT axes for TT bosses.

    Best = Calamities...
but it's sort of a dead end later on so......
if you not planning on staying 7X for long or want to save monies or somethings then go for the other axes.

I've seen way too many lowbies with XS end up stealing aggro and dying in fb79 or TT cause they zerg critted a mob. Great for PvP, but they're overrated.

that means it's going to be awesome for barbsb:victory

edit: on a similar note, is the 79 mold polehammer, with gloom effect any good? sorry, i can't really remember the name, something ancient alloy.

Yeah, great for barbs, or for pvp. I dunno how many times I saw a dead BM with a ":(" over their dead body after going gungho on a mob and stealing aggro from a herc while a cleric was too busy DDing to notice. lol So many times, in fact, that every time I saw a BM with XS in an instance, I'd say "watch out or you'll die" and then later lol'd when they died.

The pole hammer kinda sucks, but some people like it and use it. I had one crafted just to try, and Thunderbolts were much better for grinding or pvp.

it really depends on how rich you are and what you want to tank
if you are planning on doing a lot off TT runs calamities are a big no unless you dont mind having a charm and letting it tick and calamities become worse and worse for pve as your hp increases with 10k it would take away 500hp but with 15k its already 750hp each zerk but if you plan to just tank your own bh and weak normal bosses sure go for calamities they suck for soloing though but if you do plan to do loads off TTs take heraldys and dont get calamities

although get the heraldys for souledge anyway

and i would say calamities for pvp
    heraldys for pvp
its impossible to always do the right thing we all make mistakes i am not different from that
