If you wanted to take the time to level an air pet, then using a lower level one would be a good idea (lower level pets of the same general type get better stats... i.e. a lvl60 Pinnear Foxwing will have better stats than a lvl60 Foxwing Supreme). If you're like most of us tho, you dont wanna bother leveling that air pet... so just get a new one b:laugh

It all depends on how much time you want to put into lvling up a new one.

Please stop this. Speed is a stat, range is a stat. -Both tend to be better for higher level starters. General type? - There are at least 4 different kinds of wolves that this rule doesn't apply to as well as other pets.

There's a real lack of different air-pet groups after the foxwing.

But that's ok, there's also a real lack of air-quests too.

I'd say stick with your foxwing unless you find it's dying. If it is, then either level it up (the peaceful air mobs above the starter towns are good for that) or tame a new one.

I personally stuck with the foxwing - mid 50s it was good enough to do the air quests I had then. The next time you'll need it is for the 69 cultivation minibosses.

Well, gee, guess I better be more precise for Mr. Precision here... b:chuckle
    (no offense intended)

*MOST* of the pets I have come across, like the Foxwings, have tended to have somewhat better stats when they are leveled from a lower level starting pet, rather than a higher level one of the same type. And I'll go deeper into clarifying that by stating "TYPE" I don't mean "One creature that looks like it might share a prehistoric heritage with another creature".
You mentioned speed being higher on higher level pets, but pets do gain speed as they are leveled (maybe not an increase every level or even every 5 levels, but they DO gain it). While I agree that speed is rather important on a pet, it has been my experience that air pets are typically not slow movers.
Range is not something I have watched closely, so I cannot say one way or the other on that one.
Damage, defense, accuracy, evasion, and HP are the primary ones I watch for on my pets, as they are the most relevant (imho) to the usefulness of the pet in most situations. These stats *do* progress beyond the stats of a non-leveled pet of the same level, in most cases I have found. Those stats may not be incredibly, amazingly superior, but little bits help.
I know you brought up 'wolves' just to validate the argument you were trying to make, but since this thread is dealing with 'air pets', I think we can leave all the Wolves, Wolfkin, Mastiffs, and other weird doglike breeds on the ground for now.
