How about giving players a free "weekly" quest that instead of giving experience, gives out a free charm instead?
No I'm not talkign about giving out a free gold or even a bronze charm. Just a choice of either a hp charm with lvl*1500 hp or an mp charm with lvl*3000 mp. Maybe have the quests make you spend 71k in shards like crazy stone so it can be a coin sink.
I know it's possible since we get a quest at low lvls that gives out like a 10k hp charm.
Like it or not Charms are almost REQUIRED for some parts of gameplay, such as TW and TT, I'm tired of rewards and events that are designed only to inject more worthless coins into the system.
It's ridiculous that players are afriaid to do certain events and games that devs have put effort into developing, because "it costs too much in charms". Many players won't even run without a decent barb and cleric combo because burning a charm costs just too much. In pvp players run because they want to "conserve" their charm instead of having fun just battling.

My emerald charm lasted me 1 lvl. Charms like those would only be good for low levels.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Thank you Forsakenx for the picture. b:thanks0 -
Lol a charm with 1500 hp? Ahahahah, on me if charm ticks, well, bye bye charm, LOL, for that i rather have a nice Jiozi or HP pots with me.

think he meant lvl*1500 hp. So if you're lvl 100 you would get a 150k hp charm. Still pretty useless.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Hum, yea... On RB a full Gold Charm go nuts. b:laugh
So i wonder if i have a 80k hp charm, what i ll do?
Now seriously, i mean, for low lvls yea, that ca be really good. But, for high ones that would be pretty useless and a waste of time.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

But if they handed you everything everyone needs, they wouldn't make enough money to maintain the game, much less keep on updating it.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

I like the idea. Make it a semi-low amount so that, yeah, it wouldn't be extremely useful, but, it's still a free charm. If you burn through the charm fairly quickly, then, well, there's always the cash shop.
Happy low levels--> Gold buying (whether from zen or through the game, it's still buying gold) high levels, instead of, y'know, non-existent ones.0 -
TT and TW, those parts that "almost require" charms, are both voluntary, as is buying gold. Do you see where this is headed? If you disregard what I say because of who I am or because of the contents of what I said, you are a fool.
Everyone wants to be different, but when you're different you wish you were normal.0 -

Yes, the same way every other thread goes with people that do not CS wanting to have the stuff that people that CS get, but free, since after all, they are entitled and its not fair they have to grind a little to buy those items, etc, etc, etc
They tend to confuse the term free to play with free game altogher, including the optional portions.
Its ok, you will get used to it, since most threads turn into that.Too often we loose sight of life's simple pleasures. Remember, when someone annoys you, it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, BUT, it only takes 4 muscles to extend your arm and slap that mother#$@%#^! upside the head.0 -

As other people have stated before, the amount on the charms the OP suggested really isn't that much. Maybe for lower levels, it's a bunch, but, higher levels (the ones most likely to buy gold from sellers or charge zen) it's not a lot.
And he's not suggesting it be often-- just every now and then.
What's the issue, then? I fail to see the 'whining' or 'entitlement' aspect. It's not like the OP is suggesting that charms be sold by NPCs permanently, or that gold charms be free. The cash shop charms would still be better...
Even so, this idea won't be implemented-- so really, what's the issue? It was just an idea-- much like the free fashion for a week-- that might make the playerbase a bit happier.0 -

Here is what the OP said:
"How about giving players a free "weekly" quest that instead of giving experience, gives out a free charm instead? "

Funny you say the OP only said once in awhile, when he clearly suggesting this to be a "weekly" event. That is hardly what I would call once in while.
Nobody needs charms to play this game, clerics don't need them, barbs don't need them, nor do any other class. Things would slowdown a little, and require planning, but those are not almost required, like the OP claims.

from a technical standpoint, no they are not requirements. from a social point tho, they are. the game has been out long enough and all things well established and charms pretty much are a must these days if you want to do anything fun or meaningful.
but no, i dont think charms as a weekly event reward would be a good idea.0 -
Ah, sorry. I read week as once in a while-- a week is more than enough time for me to burn through several charms like that on my cleric, 'cause I play a lot... maybe if it was changed to something else...
I just like the idea, charms do make playing easier, and I think it would make a lot of people happier with the game overall... and CSers would still have the advantage, considering if they wanted to they could be constantly charmed, not just charmed every now and again.
Oh, and, not really trying to start an argument. b:shutup So yeah, don't take it that I'm trying to insult you. >>'0 -

I stated in my post that charms are "required" in terms of playing with other people. Have you ever tried to pvp as a cleric without a mana charm? their survivability goes down considerably. yes, you don't need a charm to do TT1-3 without a cleric, BUT there is maybe 1% of barbs willing to do it, because of the amount of charm burning that will result. This means every group will consist of a "perfect makeup" of barb + 1-2 clerics, because anything less than a perfect group risks charm burn and money wasting. Wizards aren't invited to TT runs because their DPS is slightly lower, but it results in higher costs for other classes since the fight goes on longer.0 -
Even so... If charms of that caliber are given during weekly events/quests or anything of the sort, it will eventually raise questions such as "Why can it not be daily?" or "Why is the amount in the charm so low?"... In the long run, though this may be a good idea for players level twenty or below, it will be just about as useless as having no charm at all...
If players are granted an easy way out then they will ask for more and eventually ruin the main aspect in the game... Teamwork is essential... Even if it takes longer to form a perfect squad, and even if arrogance or fear gets in the way of most players who wish to conserve their charm in place of doing the optional things in game such as TT or TW... That is entirely the individual's choice, be it waste charms for rewards, or go in nearly invincible with one-two Clerics and a Barbarian...
Besides... In the time it takes to wait for the next charm to become available from the weekly event/quest, the person could easily mow their yard for their parents or go to work and spare ten dollars from their pay check to buy Gold Charms...
I will not deny that this is a decent idea, if the charms are only avalible to players level twenty or even thirty and below... Yet, offering this idea to any of those above level fifty is laughable... It is easier to spend money you can make back on something that is effective than to have something that does not do the job well every week to eventually get in the way...
I would like to see your idea at least tested though... Who knows... We may all be wrong, those who are against this idea...0 -
