ground mount v. aero

I looked around and did not quite find enough on this topic.

I am a low level, but is it worth getting spurs for a ground mount? If so, whats the point of both flying and ground mounts? It seems that maybe ground is faster.

I'm new, low level, and probably broke (I don't know the economy well). Should I just wait until level 30 for that mount or try to get a ground mount since it will be faster? Thanks.

Wait for level 30 when you get a free aerogear (flying), if you are a elve, than you get to fly from level 1.

If you are not planning on buying the items with RL money, you better off waiting.

What about those dragon quests, you get a MyLittlePony after doing those right? Is that important or mostly not necessary?

you get it after doing at least 40...or was it 50? dragon quests. b:shocked
(was it 20 copper and 30 silver?)
heck still you won't manage to do that for at least half a year if your a low level and it's so not worth the effort. >.<'

it be not important or necessary. personally me prefer flying mounts since you can go afk and stuff. but ground mounts can go faster and me got one for a pretty cheap price. (because WQ was taking forever on a basic aerosword) o.O
but then again you get stopped by mountains and large bodies of water.

Ground mounts go faster, a lot faster. But you can't reliably autopath to far-off places, because things get in the way. Flight is easier, but slower.

It's probably not worth spending on the ground mount until later, unless you intend to farm materials a lot.

It's just a matter of whether you want to pay or not. There is a reason why the quests take you around the whole world map all the time... and why teleports are prohibitively expensive.

On short distances the ground mounts can save a lot of time --- judging from the speed they race around with these things. Just walking from lets say Orchid Temple back to Archosaur takes forever, but at the same time it's not far enough to be AFK (besides, AFK really means AFK --- if you just take focus off the PW window it will stop, so most of the time I'll just get in the air and watch my char fly instead of holding down the key, possibly getting a coffee in the meantime but not really doing anything else). I would guess it's safer to fly on large distances, but at very high levels this might not be a problem anymore.

I just stop playing when the game get too annoying, and come back a few days later. Or maybe not at all; I just came back from a long break, and after just a few levels the old boredom seems to be back already.

As for the auto-pathing, they somehow forgot to add the actual "pathing". It just goes in a straight line... which tends to be a very bad idea on the ground if there are aggro monsters along the way (in the air, aggro stuff seems to not go "very" high). If you can even get anywhere near where you want to go, as there'll be a lot of obstacles in the way, and just one is enough to stop you.

i have never had a problem flying at max height with agro monsters... guess they are afraid of heights

its rather slow though, so unless your afking, ground mount is probably the more efficient method of travel

    Mounts:
    Pros:
-Very fast on flat ground (upto 11m/s).
    -Cheaper to get.
-Can use at lower levels if spurred. (Though now there are some aeros that can be used at lvl20 too).
    -Easier to farm with.
    Cons:
-You have a chance of being knocked off the mount if you are hit. Higher the chance if the mount's loyalty is low.
-You need to regularly feed the mount or get a tome to stop loyalty from dropping or get knocked off everytime you are attacked.
-You cant fight while on a ground mount.
-Ground mounts cannot go everywhere, e.g. they cant climb steep hills.
-You cant really afk on a ground mount, too many mobs and obstacles.

    Aerocraft:
    Pros:
-You cant be knocked off it.
-You can fight fight on it. (50% attack penalty unless you fighting air mobs).
-Can go almost anywhere (except in places where you cant fly).
-Can set it to climb up to 60m and go afk for long distance flights.
-You don't have to feed it (unless you accelerate often, in which case you can recharge with chi stones).
-You will always need one for fighting flying mobs.
    Cons:
-More expensive to get. You get one for free at lvl30, but thats super slow (+0.5).
-Slower. Fastest aero is +3 (except for the super expensive ones, they are +3.2) which is about roughly 8m/s over flat ground.
When the going gets tough; Get a tank!

I appreciate the detailed response. I really only have time to play on weekends or when I have open windows, so you can imagine I don't run into this information much
