Hi GM's

Myself and many others are constanly hit with huge fps lag in west arcosaur with all those cat shops. I would like to recommend having a graphics option to turn off cat shops and then back on with a click of a button. If anyone else in the community feels the same way please post under this thread to get GM's attention as many people are suffering. P.S yes i do use the low settings in arco but its still laggy.

Catshops really don't cause that much lag. Once the shop opens they become a fixed, prerendered object. What DOES cause a lot of lag, however, is the large amount of actual characters the game is trying to show you at once. If you press CTRL + F9, you can turn off all characters that aren't within a meter of yourself.
One man's pain is another man's lol.

I find adjusting my effects setting to minnimum helps a ton as well.

Gets rid of the shiney pets and genies and glows around weapons.

My bad. I forgot CTRL + F9 does all that too. b:surrender

Yep my friends and i do that press CTRL + F9 and hide people out of radius, but it still lags. We have decent computers. I've heard its a huge problem for alot of people. So it must be shops.

    Actually no, it doesn't.

Cntrl + f9 sinks the distance to minimum, but does not affect the effects setting.

Ah yes this again. It's not as re-occuring as the Barb true forms, but still...

Yes, it is definitely the catshops that are the problem. The name of the shop is part of the object am I right? The character name moves with the character, so I'm sure the shop name is part of it as well. If it was a fixed prerendered object, would tha shop name move when the shop owner speaks? I doubt it. We need catshop images to be invisible as well as other players, unless they're in range. There are several ideas for dealing with this problem.

Yer a simple options to hide shops outside your radius or hide shops all together would be a great way to stop the lag. We just need to get enough people to post on this thread to get their attention and update the game for us.

    Thanks

Define decent. Because I'm running the game at minimal requirements, with the exception of having slightly higher RAM, and I get next to no lag after I hide everything.

I've been dealing with computer programming for almost seven years now. Trust me, it's not the shops causing the lag.

Please listen. IT IS NOT THE CAT SHOPS CAUSING LAG. If you have lag (and you have a decent PC/laptop processor) it is probably because you don't have a a good graphics card.

PCs can have a uber processor but without a good graphics chip/card it won't work well with a graphics intensive game like PWI. Most off the shelf cheap PCs/laptops come with lousy graphics chipsets that work fine for spreadsheets and Youtube but choke when it comes to games.

The cat shops are very simple graphic objects with few polygons to render. On the other hand the characters, mounts, clothes, special effects etc. have a very high polygon count.

One player with custom clothing on a mount would probably have more stuff that your graphics card has to render than 100 catshops.

Ok the issue i dont understand is that i can play with max graphics all the way up in other populated areas but as soon as i hit West Arc it starts to lag like crazy. So i leave everything turned up except i turn the show only things with in a certain radius, which means i only really only usually have 3-4 people on my screen in my radius. However i still lag like crazy. I have friends with great computers and they still complain about the lag there.

I understand your point about very high polygon count for custom clothing and mounts, however if im using the radius options in west arch i still lag, however when im in other populated areas with no shops i dont lag much. So is it an issue with the game not actually utilizing the raidus option properly and not completley removing all instances of the high polygon objects which should be outside your radius.

I encountered many many people with the same issue and it does turn people away from such a great game.

    Hope i explained that properly

    Thanks

I just asked the faction im in if anybody had the same lag in west arc. 58 people replied and said they did lol. I msged world chat saying pm me if you want a trick to fix the lag in west arc and i don't want to get started on how many people did.

So you are prob right that is not the shops but wrong about high poly gon counts and your personal computer not being able to handle it. It is more of an issue with server bandwidth versus client bandwidth not handling the massive amount of packets from all the people running around in west arco. I say that its not a problem with the personal computer setup because many of my friends have high end pc's and can quite easily handle that many poly gons at one time, however even when the show only people with in your radius is turned on, it still lags.

    Thanks
